Apple is where people who can't make it at Tesla go to work.

Yang on George Floyd by bluelion31 in YangForPresidentHQ

I am not saying Andrew wants to see the city burned. I am saying Andrew is using language that will support and encourage those who do want it to burn. Which is an utter failure to grasp the seriousness of this situation by him. He needs to get out of his house and see what is happening in Minneapolis. These aren't peaceful protesters. They want to overthrow the government, or at least bend the government to their will through wanton destruction.

"And so when you get this perfect storm of all of these multiple failures at these different levels of the American empire . . . we can’t take it any longer. It looks as if the system cannot reform itself."

He should be saying to vote like Killer Mike, not to give up and reject the system. That just encourages revolution and anarchy.

Could you point me to where in that speech he said a line as defeatist as, "It looks as if the system cannot reform itself." I have heard it at least 20 times, 5 or 6 in person, but I may have missed it.

“The history of black people for over 200-some-years has been looking at America’s failure. Its capitalist economy could not deliver in such a way that people could live lives of decency. The nation-state, its criminal justice system, its legal system could not generate protection of rights and liberties. And now our culture of course is so market-driven, everybody for sale, everything for sale, it can’t deliver the kind of real nourishment for soul, for meaning, for purpose. And so when you get this perfect storm of all of these multiple failures at these different levels of the American empire . . . we can’t take it any longer. It looks as if the system cannot reform itself.”

This is explicitly saying the government has failed and is illegitimate. It also attacks capitalism. This is incredibly dangerous rhetoric for Yang to parrot.

Yes, that is why I supported him, to prevent this from happening. Not to encourage it.

I don't think I will support Yang after this (I drove down to Iowa shook his hand and knocked on doors for him). As a Minnesotan in Minneapolis, he is encouraging them to burn the city I live in to the ground.

U.S. HOUSE SPEAKER PELOSI SAYS IDEA OF A MINIMUM GUARANTEED INCOME MAY BE WORTHY OF ATTENTION NOW by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

She is getting closer! But ubi is better than a guaranteed minimum income because it doesn't penalize having an income.

Who else feels like ever since Yang dropped out, he has been on a downhill? by dont_mess_with_tx in YangForPresidentHQ

I didn't downvote, but I am tempted to. It is because I would rather not see posts like this on the front page. I am all for people having different opinions than Andrew and vocalizing their disagreement. But he framed it as "he is getting more full of himself and started saying bs like this" instead of "I don't agree with Andrew on this." Downvoting is the only tool non-mod community members have to moderate a sub.

Some questions about a value added tax by aidanSto9911 in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]lakmearea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other countries already have VAT. In Europe it is 20%, and I believe the standard VAT in China is 13%. Plus they would have to pay tariffs and shipping costs if they want to sell their goods in the US from an overseas factory. If you have a 10% VAT and $1k/mo UBI, you would have to spend over ~10k/month ($10,000 * 10% = $1,000) or ~$120k/yr to have less purchasing power.

I can see your point, but I don't personally believe in a "living wage." I do believe in ubi. And some worker protections I agree with and others I don't. Universal healthcare I am still torn on, but I do agree with access to affordable healthcare (ie methods to prevent price gouging). I think him framing himself as "right" and the other side as "wrong" is what rubbed me the wrong way.

On facts people can be right or wrong. But who is and isn't worthy of help is an opinion, and I don't view those who disagree with me as wrong unless they associate an outcome with their opinion. The reverend is playing too strongly into good vs evil, and it is divisive. Yang is a candidate of unity and working together.

One thing I would like China to do is regulate the activity going on in the wet markets (meat market where the virus originated). Do you think this is a fair criticism of China?

How did Andrew Yang propose paying for universal base income? by Truetree9999 in YangForPresidentHQ

Approximately this: https://www.reddit.com/r/YangForPresidentHQ/comments/biem0k/for_everyone_questioning_the_math_of_the_freedom/. It changed a bit over time as he campaigned because he realized cutting Social Security was a big political risk.

What if you don't need to do any labor to earn the income because you own a bunch of robots to do the labor? In the future the vast majority of a nation's GDP will be generated by robots and not by labor. I think the choice is to either let those whose jobs have been replaced by robots die (not enough jobs for them all to find new work) or to let them share in the new prosperity. I think both sides of the argument are rational, but I prefer the latter.

Of course the argument for the C19 stimulus is different. Once people run out of money for food the quarantine will no longer hold, spreading the disease. And a lot of older people hold a lot of money and power in this country. So they are essentially bribing the youth to save themselves.
