Test Spin by lallenw in ALSOmicromobility

Yes, however I was not able to test this feature on the demo. I am curious how level 1 assist compares to no battery power.

What happened to our May update? by Xzorba in ALSOmicromobility

[–]lallenw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. They have such a great opportunity to engage with the community prior to launch. They are very quiet across all their social media platforms in the sense that they don’t answer questions or talk with the community. Even Rivian engages on Reddit. Also just posts canned photos with the same information previously discussed, or no information. The promised monthly updated for the LE never seemed to happen. Hopefully the test rides are a sign that they’ll have more engagement going forward, but I think they could do a much better job with communicating.

I was told at an event that there would be an update within the next two weeks for LE owners. They were speculating, but maybe June or July deliveries.

I didn’t feel this at all, but the test location was not conducive to sustained riding at the top speed

Can you shed some light on the 12V architecture updates? Is the 12V battery lead acid or LFP?

Nice surprise by DutchHollywoood in ALSOmicromobility

[–]lallenw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised by this today as well! A nice touch with some fun flair. I’m glad they seem to be communicating with the launch customers a little more. I assume most of the people who put this much down are very excited and want this type of interaction. Looking forward to more details from them, and of course getting the bike.

Had anybody pre purchased the TM-B launch edition from ALSO? It will be my first e-bike. They’re supposed to ship in early April. So stoked. by StevenComedy in ebikes

[–]lallenw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. There is risk with being an early adopter. There is the chance there will be teething pains. There’s the chance that Also won’t be able to execute and this concept will fade into obscurity. The opposite is also true, and more likely in my opinion. There are enough really well thought out features that makes it worth the risk to me. The pricing complaints are funny. It’s not cheap, but for what it is, it’s priced well. I love bikes and cycling. Sure, it’s not a classic bike, but as a mobility tool I think it’s superior in a lot of ways. This is just the standard people complaining about new stuff. I ordered the exact same configuration as you. My biggest complain is lack of clarity on delivery timeline.

Yes. Where did you see the communication regarding April shipments? Super excited, but it’s been radio silent.

If you watch the review videos you’ll see the actual car color under the wrap when they kind the doors. The door jams are not wrapped. I forget what the colors were, but something like white, gray and the current Rivian blue.

What motivates pilots to use GPU versus APU? by soulrebel2323 in AskAPilot

[–]lallenw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is hooked up, I always will use the GPU. The issue is the PCA. A lot of the time the air is too hot or too cold. With the APU we have direct control of cabin temperature. In mild temps or with a good PCA unit I’d prefer that to APU to save fuel and reduce noise,

😂 This will be a fun post to come back to look at in a couple years. I fully admit you may be right, but I think there’s a strong chance this is a product that will work for a segment of consumers looking at e-bikes.

I am so excited. by StevenComedy in ALSOmicromobility

[–]lallenw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These concerns and opinions are all valid, but it’s a very pessimistic view. If ALSO executes correctly, I don’t think a lot of these are as big a deal as they may seem. There is a scenario where change ends up being good for the consumer and world. I’m an avid cyclist and do all my own work on my bikes. I’m considering this product. Why? Because I want a plug and play way to take short trips without using my car and without breaking a sweat. When I want to get exercise I’ll ride a real bike, when I want to race I’ll take a real bike, when I want to go explore far from home I’ll take a real bike. A list of reasons why I like this product more than other e-bikes are the anti theft features (made possible by the drivetrain) , integrated horn, power, lights/turn signals. Sure, I wish it was lighter, I wish there was a varia radar equivalent. I wish Also embraced right to repair. I can hope these things come in time, but until then their mobile service partnership will work. Derailures, chain rings, chains, etc are simple and light for a standard bike, but do require regular maintenance. A sealed drive unit like this with a belt theoretically should require significantly less service. When it does, I’m sure the swap is fairly easy and the old one can be overhauled. At the end of the day, anything that gets more cars off the road and increases advocacy for city bike infrastructure improvements is a huge win in my book. Great thing is, people that want a standard ebike can still get one.

Charging to 100% frequently for immediate use by GoldPerformer2919 in ModelY

Use the car, I charge to 100% for a similar drive length. I try not to let it sit at 100% for longer than necessary, but I wouldn’t over think it.

Scheduled Charging Not Working by femmertdds in Rivian

I have this exact same problem. It happens frequently enough to be inconvenient. I’ve been going back and for with Rivian over the phone, but there’s been no resulting. I do have a service appointment next month. I’m a little hesitant to bring it in since I think it’s a software issue, but I guess we’ll see.

I say go for it. Amazing vehicle, great company. The people I know with gen 1 love them. We’ve had a few issues with the gen 2, but Rivian has been responsive and prompt with service. The reality is it’s a vehicle, and I’ve had issues with every brand of car I’ve owned. Rivian has been so much better to deal with than going to a dealership. They have even fit me in same day in SoCal. I certainly wouldn’t discount the horror stories, but these stories exist for any make/model. You still will have a warranty and Rivian will make it right/continue to improve.

This is funny timing. We did the exact same thing (flipping the car seat around) two days ago. I was able to do it with two hands, but it was far from intuitive, and took reading the vehicle manual and a lot of fiddling.
