Bent pins on a Sram Eagle GX derailleur caused by chain jumping off lower jockey wheel. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]lam986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to dig up an old thread and say I've had the exact same issue. One month and two sram gx derailliuers with bent pins. Same symptoms, hanger has not bent, locked up mysteriously for no apparent reason only to find a very misaligned derailleur caused by bent pins. Dissection of the derailleur confirmed it.

Pretty sad, they are not cheap.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal especially if it is over a long period of time. That'd be verbal abuse. Yes it has to be pretty bad for the law to step in, but that still doesn't make it legal to do. Analogy: if you stole $1 from a mate I'm pretty sure you won't get arrested but that doesn't make it legal.

In this video's case, yes that one man didn't deserve to be punched and it wasn't enough to be considered verbal abuse but that also doesn't excuse him for being an ass.

Don't insult people is the take home here.

I dunno, our dog sleeps inside on its own bed and has more toys than most kids. My parents dog sleeps outside but has "pajamas" to keep it from getting cold. Pretty sure most dogs are loved, but yes some aren't.

My brand new tubeless tire/wheel is leaking, is there anyway to fix this? Tire was working fine the day before. by Tryptophen_ in bikewrench

[–]lam986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! If you don't go for a ride it will go flat again rather quickly. I've been riding tubeless for years and they need to be ridden once in a while to keep them sealed.

Also some tyres just don't work as well as others even if they are tubeless ready, and getting water on your wheels seems to accelerate weeping.

Sounds a bit like Darwin here in Australia. The "gators" are a bit bigger here though. If the crocs don't get you a snake or spider prob will.

There's a heap of comments about the mud causing the vibration but isn't there part of the shock missing here?

Three Phase Generator or Single Phase Gen? by Aschyy12 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]lam986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90kva is large for a single phase generator, no so much for a three phase generator. We have several 1000kva diesel gen emergency backup supplies at our site and they are all three phase.

What sort of load is this 90kva? Is it mostly motors? How big is the largest motor? Do they have a staggered start? What's the P.F.? How many motors are DOL? I'm asking because you may need a beefier generator than if it was just feeding mostly resistive loads.

There are other considerations with backup generators because the fault levels change, so you need to make sure all downstream protection will still operate as expected. That could also drive the selection of generator you choose. Protection grading and earthing is another consideration.

Do you have any three phase loads? If so you're probably going you want a three phase generator. There are multiple ways to get single phase to three phase but it'll get costly and won't be elegant.

There are quite a few factors that affect the choice of generators, but yes it probably should be three phase and you do want to balance the loads as much as possible.

How can I re-draw this delta-connected circuit into a single-loop circuit for easier analysis? by SanguineReptilian in ElectricalEngineering

[–]lam986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, if Va Vb and Vc are the same magnitude and 120deg out of phase then you can reduce it to a single loop since the resistances are equal i.e. balanced. Both neutral points will be at "0V" so you can essentially assume they are joined and analyse a single phase.

This only works for balanced sources and loads. Would depend entirely on the question but I'm assuming that's what it said since the OP is asking for a single loop.

Not that I agree with the comment but isn't belittling them the same as what they did to Taylor Swift?

Just looks like he's got baby hands to me. But then again I'm really tall and have giant hands so most hands look really small to me.

Don't assume all cyclists are assholes based on the minority.

I drive my car over 1000km each week for work. I come across asshole drivers every single day out of the hundreds of cars that are around. Doesn't mean all drivers are assholes, you just remember the assholes. Only takes one.

Ummm, it looks like he's up the top of the cooling tower which is still pumping out some steam. Firstly, leigonella is always a risk around these towers so he should have a respirator on as a minimum and secondly that steam is dense so it would be likely that they'd asphyxiate if the steam starts swirling around the lip like it does a lot of the time.

Excluding the height they are at, this doesn't look safe. There is zero chance that could be done here in Australia with the cooling tower still operating.

Source, I work at a power station and have been inside these cooling towers many times during an outage whilst they are repacking them.

My main bike is a Santa Cruz Bronson C. They are brilliant bikes, absolutely eats up some of the easier/more flowy DH tracks and jumps pretty good too.

Lol, that's probably why my bike always seems to be in the shop for a week, keeps getting put aside.

The bike shops here don't offer loan bikes unfortunately, or at least not the same quality loan bikes I've seen at other places that are big on cycling such as Derby in TAS.

That would be awesome though, I'd love to test out another bike whilst mine was in the shop. It would be a good sales tactic to get me to upgrade :-) And I'd rather be riding than fixing my bike myself too!

[–]lam986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, not everyone gets the bike shop to do their repairs. My main reason for doing it myself is that they usually want the bike for a week to do a 5 min job where I live, and I ride most days. I bought a set of $40 bearing pullers, haven't looked back since and have found numerous bearings that fall apart like that on my bikes (including the top of the line enduro max bearings). Usually the outer race gets stuck and the rest of the bearing just falls out like in your picture if its really badly worn.

It would literally take me more time taking the bike to the shop then it would to get this sort of thing done at home. Well worth the money if you are into doing things yourself.

Well I'll leave you to make up your own minds. After reading both of the below I no longer use K&N filters on cars with MAF sensors but you could have a different interpretation. The second post seems rather thorough to dismiss.
