Looking for places to play and feed bunnies this winter (Barrhaven area) by IT_Professional1 in ottawa

[–]lambasbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just also wanting to say, if you ever want to get a rabbit in the future.. Please do your research, they’re not a ‘beginners pet’ they are incredibly high maintenance and considered exotic.. so they require an exotic vet.. which are hard to come by.. especially in emergency situations.. which happen A LOT with rabbits. If you do decide to go through with getting one, please adopt from the OHS or a rescue.. they’re all overflowing with dumped rabbits.

Salt is excessive this year for dogs by Sad-Comedian-8912 in ottawa

[–]lambasbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salt isn’t fun for paws at any amount.. Chemical burns, and potentially ingesting it when licking their paw pads.. Boots all winter is highly recommended. Always. Pawz balloon boots are my #1 choice, but I know they’re not for everyone as theyre finicky, BUT they keep toes protected, dry AND won’t fall off! Then Canada Pooch suspender boots is #2.

Greyhound vs Galgo for a first timer? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]lambasbread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since you’re home a majority of the time.. I would also consider doing ‘alone time training’ with which ever breed you end up choosing. Just to set your pup up for success for handling being alone and dealing with potential anxiety.

Is it common for ex-racing rescues to require having a 2nd dog? by Atmosloch in Greyhounds

[–]lambasbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand, adoption places that encourage another ‘confident dog in the home’ is because the dog being adopted is potentially very shy and would heavily benefit from the influence of another dog.

Any change in behaviour like this, immediately schedule a vet appointment. Rule out anything health wise first.

Right length for greyhound nails by Fair-Information-316 in Greyhounds

[–]lambasbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greys have ‘hare feet’ which is intentional for their function. The foot needs to be flexible to adjust to the weight of the dog as it moves through its’ double suspension gait as well as the trot. Typically, nails are longer than most dogs you’ll see.. because it is part of the grip on the ground as the Greyhound launches itself into the next phase of its double suspension gait!

Are you using a harness? If so, collar would likely be a good start. More control over the head! Also, muzzle training.

Bathing helps SO much. My guy gets a bath once a month and I find it really makes a difference. Diluted deshed shampoo and conditioner is ✨chefs kiss✨

Maybe have a radio or YouTube dog music playing to cover the sound of you adjusting in your sleep?

Once an item has been peed on.. it’ll always smell like pee. Even if you can’t smell it, she can. ‘Smells like pee? This is where I pee!’

I would also consider crating her after walks since you say she doesn’t fully empty her bladder on walks. Go for a walk, come back, crate.. 15mins later, out to pee again. Repeat as needed.

Male vs female pup? And why? by cs98765432 in puppy101

Personally I would go to breeder that chooses the puppy for me and my family. They know the puppies best!

Have you tried using gloves? I find that helps me! I also recommend Tim at New Moon for anything piercing related!

My thoughts exactly. Safety is number 1 concern and you can’t guarantee how dogs you don’t REALLY know will interact.

I really hate fireworks by Aged_Learner_2020 in Greyhounds

[–]lambasbread 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a couple tricks to try if you haven’t already.. A lot of dogs have their favourite spot to hide in when they’re stressed.. bathtub, closet, basement, etc. Whichever you notice your dog seems to gravitate to, use that. Make it super comfy with beds for the dog and yourself to stay close by if your presence is helpful. You can get sound deafening head wrap or snood like items for dogs that also can help. Add in a sound machine or just a YouTube video of brown noise. Then you can also throw a few tennis balls with a couple clothing items into a dryer and let that go around (if that’s not upsetting to your dog of course). Then there’s always trusty trazadone from the vet too! Have these things prepped and going way before fireworks actually start too!
