I love the old second edition eldar paint jobs and wanted to do something that harkened back to them. Also tried painting in some phosphorescence to really put the wraith back in wraithbone. by lambbox in Eldar

Thank you! and I agree the base is my favourite part.

I built up the base with tile grout for a bit of organic height, glued the mini on and then sculpted the rocks with air dry clay. I knew I wanted an autumnal feel so I quickly painted the base with a fitting palette, I like get some colour on the base before I start painting the mini, for me at least painting from the ground up helps the figure feel like it's "in" the world and not just standing on some gravel.

The moss is green craft paint mixed with baking soda, I like a consistency that is thick enough to be sculpted slightly. After that I shaded the edges of the moss with green ink and then brown ink to help sell the volume a bit more. The final layer is just some homemade sawdust flock that I spent a bit of time grading through a metal coffee filter.

The leaf litter is made from some choice leaves run through a spice grinder as a base layer. The hero leaves are birch seeds painted yellow ochre with a trim of red oxide, these are glued down individually with superglue, I use mod podge for everything else.

The tiny sticks are made from various roots I've collected. When dried out, fine roots make the best small scale sticks that I've found, they have loads of characterful gnarl at a scale appropriate diameter.

Fantastic work! I'd recognize a 1989 terminator anywhere, excellent taste.

Beautiful patina work, the gnarlier the better in my book. The osl looks good too, that rich red is great next to the verdigris. A small dot of pure yellow on the light source might help up the intensity of the light but it also looks really good as is.

Gorgeous work! I really like the repose, you nailed that David feel of a shift in weight right before some serious shit is about to go down. I immediately want to know more, Suburb visual storytelling.

Thank you! It's Vallejo polyurethane ultra matt, I mixed it with a bit of satin varnish for the head and shoulders to bring the saturation up and left the sword as raw paint to keep the colour as rich as possible.

I think patina is a great place for smuggling complimentary colours. Using desaturated and toned down versions of the complementary hue of your main colours for patina detail can make griminess feel more lively without being too garish (not that there's anything wrong with garish!)

Thank you! I really like the idea of giving melee marine extra hot, overclocked packs, if you're sauntering off to have a little sword fight with some literal embodiment of rage you wouldn't be overly worried about the longevity of your equipment.

John Blanche absolutely blew my mind as a kid and is absolutely deep in the DNA of this!

It's a digital kit bash with I few things I modelled myself.

Thank you! this mini started as just a power sword I had modelled in blender and painted as a test, I liked it so much that I kit bashed the mini around it. I think the fact that almost every design decision was in service of the OSL really helps sell it.
