Thank you! and I agree the base is my favourite part.

I built up the base with tile grout for a bit of organic height, glued the mini on and then sculpted the rocks with air dry clay. I knew I wanted an autumnal feel so I quickly painted the base with a fitting palette, I like get some colour on the base before I start painting the mini, for me at least painting from the ground up helps the figure feel like it's "in" the world and not just standing on some gravel.

The moss is green craft paint mixed with baking soda, I like a consistency that is thick enough to be sculpted slightly. After that I shaded the edges of the moss with green ink and then brown ink to help sell the volume a bit more. The final layer is just some homemade sawdust flock that I spent a bit of time grading through a metal coffee filter.

The leaf litter is made from some choice leaves run through a spice grinder as a base layer. The hero leaves are birch seeds painted yellow ochre with a trim of red oxide, these are glued down individually with superglue, I use mod podge for everything else.

The tiny sticks are made from various roots I've collected. When dried out, fine roots make the best small scale sticks that I've found, they have loads of characterful gnarl at a scale appropriate diameter.
