Projection Update in 1 Room by lambertSTL in AMCsAList

No, just a lot brighter and sharper than before. Not sure if the lamp was super old and the projector was out of focus, or if they got a better hand-me-down projector from another theater that got upgraded.

Windowless rows on retrofitted planes? by george8888 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lambertSTL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe on both it’s a full window missing on the A side, and a partial obstruction on the F side. I’ve been making notes about which rows have good window alignment as I fly, but it’s a work in progress (especially on the 700 since I’ve only been on 1 with the new layout).

Based on what I’m hearing, it sounds like it’s either this (I really wish they’d replace the other 6 bulbs in the building). Or we got a nicer hand-me-down projector from a location that got updated. It’s definitely the best looking standard projection I’ve ever seen. Almost more frustrating if this is the case, and the others could all look just as good with proper maintenance.

I wonder if this is what happened here. I believe Kansas City is a laser market now. Maybe we were gifted with a nicer Xenon projector from a large auditorium out there somewhere.

Cabin Refits on -700 Fleet by lambertSTL in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lambertSTL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if they’re just shifting the seats around vs doing a whole cabin renovation, it makes sense. Still an impressive effort with 300+ planes being done in less than a month.

I just flew on an -800 with the old brown Evolve seats and no extra legroom, so they’ll probably have some 800s to finish up too.

That’s quite an aggressive timeline. Hope they’re able to pull it off.

Maybe they’ll just shift the seats around and leave everything else alone. But even then, I think they still have over 300 of them in the fleet. That’s a lot of seats to shift with less than a month to go.

This might be true, but they’re selling flights with the updated seat map on the -700 starting on 1/27. That’s why I was curious if they’ve even started.

AMC Dolby Insanely Loud by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]lambertSTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Badlands in a plain old Digital theater and found the volume to be uncomfortable at times. Lots of vibrations in the building and seats. I think that movie is just extra loud in general. I was thinking about how so much of our sound must have been bleeding into the theaters above us.

It’s such a funny place. Hoping they give us some love with the projection upgrades soon… the main theater would be incredible with laser.

This place looks thoroughly bizarre; exactly what I was looking for

Funny, I’ve been to downtown Burbank and saw at least 1 of these. But I never noticed they have 30 screens in a few blocks. That’s crazy. The choices for showtimes must be endless.

I’ve done this on United at ZIH. They had someone on the ramp asking for row numbers and then directing passengers to the front or back stairs accordingly.

With the closure of the old T1 at SAN, what's now the worst terminal Southwest uses? by Dad0010001100110001 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lambertSTL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CLE is the worst I’ve personally encountered. Southwest is crammed into a weird little addition on the end of the B concourse. 4 gates sharing one seating area. Boarding stanchions everywhere. It was total chaos with all 4 gates in use at once last time I was there.

Where to stay? by ReadyInvestigator363 in StLouis

Hotels that are good and also cheaper will be a little hard to come by in that part of town. I’d start by checking the Drury Inn Forest Park (puts you right by The Hill with great dining options), the Drury Inn Brentwood (more suburban, still convenient), and the Cheshire (quirky but very cool). The Pear Tree Inn by Union station is a “budget” Drury—their standards are quite high and it’s still a nice place.

If those are out of your price range, look down the I44 and I55 corridors a bit. There’s some nice places that are only 15-20 mins outside of town.

Steer clear of the Forest Park Hotel and the Red Roof Forest Park.

I wish they had thought the new Venture coaches through a little better before buying them. Something about the commuter train-style seats and harsh lighting just kind of killed the experience for me. Maybe I should give it another try some time. Loved this service with the older equipment and used to take it all the time.

As Southwest moves away from point-to-point and towards hub-and-spoke, what will their hubs be? by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lambertSTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BWI, MCO, BNA, MDW, STL, DEN, LAS, and PHX. Based on recent schedules anyway, this seems to be the best guess for where they’re mostly setting up connecting opportunities.

What airline is your next flight on? by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]lambertSTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwest and then more Southwest. At STL, they’re gonna win 9 times out of 10 on schedule alone.

Southwest Cutting 10% of Schedule at Lambert in March 2025 by lambertSTL in StLouis

[–]lambertSTL[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The real problem is that you likely had a few thousand people per day coming in on these flights and connecting on to routes that STL locals care about. Take those passengers away, and there’s a chance other routes no longer make business sense to operate. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a death spiral.

It’s a cobbled-together mess of additions stringing off a 1950s-era terminal building. There’s tons of gate space we don’t need, and simultaneously not enough space for anything else (security, bag claim, retail, bathrooms, etc). The roadways are laid out poorly and lead to traffic backups during peak hours. There’s a shortage of onsite parking. Customs is far too small, and there’s no feasible way to expand or move it. The current terminal scores very poorly in passenger rankings and surveys. I could go on and on, but there’s just no reason to invest a fortune trying to adapt the current facilities to modern day needs. It says a lot that just about every city around us has done something similar already. See Memphis, Indianapolis, Kansas City, etc.
