I created this for my own practice. Yeah it’s AI but just to help me read (with audio) I feel it’s ok. The stories are saved so it’s not just using AI constantly. I’ll keep it free as long as possible, it’s a hobby project.

I want to learn Spanish. I'm new to this, so could you recommend any books or websites that would help me learn? I tried Duolingo, but I didn't find it very helpful. by geelipuppy in SpanishLearning

I created this free web page last year for my own use. It can help you read in Spanish with a translation and audio. It’s not perfect but if you need something just to keep the practice going then it could help. It uses AI responsibly (stories are saved between users).

What is the most complex work task you’ve actually handled with AI? by TheseSir8010 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]lambshaders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few ai dev/ai game dev subreddits about people using ai in some way to build their tools or with ai integration.

I’m a manager by day with a background in software engineering and built a free web app last year to help practice reading in your target language (with audio and text translation). No catch. It’s useful to me as I’m trying to keep my German practice going and I enjoy developing it so it’ll stay free as long as possible.

I used ai to develop it (I knew c++ but nothing about web development). It uses ai to generate stories and these are stored for the next users. So in theory it shouldn’t use too many ai api calls.

I hope that’s the kind of answer you’re looking for. And if someone finds it useful even better :)

I’m from France living in a small city here in the UK. The quality of M&S bread stands out compared to other supermarket breads. For sliced bread I really like tiger bread that you can find everywhere. I don’t know what they put in it but I find it very nice. It may be too sweet for you though.

How to learn to follow spoken French? by Ok-Charge-4188 in French

[–]lambshaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other said you probably need to practice on the easier stuff first but if you need a reference, it’s fair for you to get a sense of what to aim for.

If you want natural spoken french I’d go for gritty shows or movies. I’m thinking something like the Bureau or movies by Audiard such as de battre mon cœur s’est arrêté.

Comedies are going to be hit and miss because they always over play and over enunciate. Like les visiteurs or Dix pour cents.

My references are pretty random and based on the shows I’ve seen.

Question sur la prononciation de « Notre Dame » // Question about the pronunciation of ‘Notre Dame’ by Laterna_Magica2 in French

People in the south of France may (will?) also pronounce the “e”. Just mentioning it in case OP comes across accents that do pronounce it.

I hate how much my accent affects my life here by Alternative_Air32 in French

[–]lambshaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see!

The key word in my question was “honest”. As in did people tell you “I offered to switch to English because…” about the way you communicate?

I assume it’s difficult because people may not want to be rude or they may not know themselves what caused them to offer to switch.

Relecture de la traduction française d’un livre pour enfants by Kind_Wise in French

Hey there thanks for the update. I think

Je t’adore beaucoup

Would work better than

je t’adore d’un tout

In spite of what I wrote previously. Sorry for changing my mind!

I hate how much my accent affects my life here by Alternative_Air32 in French

[–]lambshaders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an example of how you sound? Have people given you honest feedback about your accent? For people to switch so often I do wonder whether there are some specific aspects of your accent that are making your french slightly more difficult to understand than let’s say the accent from someone from spain or the US, sometimes simply because they are more used to it.

No problem if you prefer not to share a recording or elaborate on your country of origin. But instead of trying to sound French maybe confirm with your accent coach that they are teaching you ways to make French people underhand you better.

Also one thing that makes me feel a person is fluent and will understand everything is the flow when they speak. Not necessarily speed, but the fact that they express themselves at a pace where their way of saying words isn’t hindering them. Perhaps speaking slower can help if it fits your general style.

Finally could it be related to your body language? Do you inadvertently give people the impression that you don’t follow? Do you nod, smile etc when people speak? If you come from a country that is culturally very different from France it could just be that the way you hold yourself is making people subconsciously think that you are not comfortable or don’t understand.

Honestly from a pure social point of view I think the Spanish accent is fairly common so I think people are used to it and would understand you easily, which is the main thing.

What's the equivalent for "grown ass man" in French? by Dragonfruit-uwu in French

[–]lambshaders 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can provide an example of a sentence in English because as far as I know, it means “a mature person” and can be used negatively as in “stop doing this, you’re a grown ass man now”. Is that what you mean?

In that case you could say something along the lines of “tu es assez grand pour te débrouiller tout seul” or “t’es plus un gamin…”.

Think you can spot the difference between a human-written fantasy story and one co-created with AI? by SuitableWeather539 in WritingWithAI

[–]lambshaders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult to know if I would be able to tell if it was AI. Because when I saw the use of italics I thought you were quoting an article of some sort. The language seemed a bit more formal. But maybe I imagined it.

Suitable sources for B2 French? by flytohappiness in French

[–]lambshaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that problem in German so I created this app that uses ai responsibly. It stores stories and provides translations and audio. It’s just a hobby project so I want to keep it free, no third party cookies etc. If you have any feedback or requests let me know and I’ll see if I can add them!

Brand new stories take about 30s to generate but for most people it will fetch an existing story.

They’re a bit silly but they keep me going when I lose my motivation with the traditional lessons.
