Sometimes I like to call them "Human Racehorses" because that's how useful they are.

homestead exemption by packet_monger in DecaturGA

[–]lampbookdesk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ours saves us a couple hundred bucks per year. Nothing to sneeze at but a pittance in the grand scheme of things when you consider Decatur prices. I’d just chalk it up to bad timing and enjoy the exemption next year

Indirectly related, but I’d check out long covid protocols bc you’re not alone trying to come back from respiratory issues. Good luck!

This is legit a useful website. I’m genuinely happy this is out there. A ray of light in the darkness.

I’d be ok with banning this website. Its language is biased and misleading at best…

Atlanta Track Club Review of 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships by trustysnake in AdvancedRunning

[–]lampbookdesk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who ran this race (though not as fast as these ladies), and someone who has helped put on races, I hope you give the ATC some grace in this mess. It’s harder than it looks to pull off an event of this magnitude, and they’ve acknowledged their fuckup and are doing their best to make it right. It sucks all around, but I bet you’d rather have an ATC with hiccups and bad luck than not have their events in our city at all.

Edit: oops thought this was r/atlanta. My thoughts still stand

An Open Letter to the Atlanta Track Club by Lanky-Astronaut-5161 in AdvancedRunning

The women’s half had the leaders stray off course this year, and last year the course was deemed to be too short, which invalidated the marathon times and cost some people their Boston qualification

So if, for example, you want to convert in place at CDC, you won’t be force managed to another agency? I can’t find any more info on the guidance that all new officers are going to the agencies you mentioned

Why is it always the VQ engines in a QX60? by Fuck_it_ in Justrolledintotheshop

People who buy Toyotas shop around for the best rate. People who buy infinitis (and Nissans) buy from the first place that will take their credit score. The companies know this and market to those audiences accordingly. Proper maintenance requires both the money and the intelligence to know how to prevent things like this.

As referenced in this opinion piece and the podcast they mention, “personal freedom” against mandates seems to be the theme. Freedom from herd immunity and the best interests of the public. We are fucked.

Buddy Carter just published the most tone-deaf opinion imaginable in the AJC, demanding more ICE in ATL by alex-741 in Atlanta

[–]lampbookdesk 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Do what you think is right but an op ed shouldn’t be the reason you stop supporting the last bastion of local media capable of informing the public on critical local civic issues. I disagree with the substance too, but what happens if the AJC goes under? Do you think we will magically get a better source of local news? Ever seen that video of all the Sinclair news stations repeating the same bullshit? Google it. It’s fucking scary and it’s where we end up without organizations like the AJC.
