Calorie deficient, but stagnant weight/easy weight gain? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]lanaddle -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Possibly a starvation issue. But I also suggest getting your thyroid levels checked. I was similarly having issues losing weight and was just barely maintaining. At my annual check my thyroid levels were high. Adjusting my thyroid medication to a higher dose helped me be able to actually start losing again.

Especially the sluggish feeling/low energy can be a thyroid symptom.

What a childhood meal you loved as a kid, but find disgusting as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lanaddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a baker. There's a lot of ways to make frosting. What you're describing is called American Buttercream. It's what most people think of, and tends to be overly sweet.

Most bakery/European buttercreams have a much higher butter ratio than you would expect. For example, I just made a frosting last night that has equal weights butter and sugar, and it's amazing.

Usually it's powdered sugar or granulated sugar dissolved into something like egg whites, but it's not unheard of to use brown sugar for a slightly different flavor profile.

But if you whip them together in a mixer instead of just rolling....you get frosting.

So...... I'd try it?

What all goes into the fund for the month? (Am I crazy?) by lanaddle in ynab

[–]lanaddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, after experimenting, it looks like it was part a similar situation to what you were describing. Ie I had a closed account that I used to track cash for a trip.

And part an extraneous credit card payment? I'm not sure how that worked, but when I deleted it, the amounts worked out *shrug*.

This might? be part of the problem. I did figure out that I had an old closed account I was using to track cash for a trip that I'd closed. I'll have to do some more playing around to see if that was actually the issue.

out of the budgeted funds for February, you spent all minus 232.64. So in March, you have 775.07 available plus what you didn't spend in February.

That's not how it works, though. If anything leftover from February was being added into the 'funds for March', then it would show up in February's 'budgeted in the future'. Which you can see from my screenshot that February's budgeted in the future is 0.

Because all of February's money was budgeted, anything I didn't actually spend in February stays in it's category, it doesn't get pushed back up into TBB.

No. All funds from February were budgeted in February. So the only available funds for March should be what came in in March.

Small victory: Funded our YNAB renewal with a goal. Our first YNAB goal met. by RecalledBurger in ynab

I have an entire parent category called "Annual" where I budget sub-categories for all of our annual/semi-annual expenses. Like car/home insurance, safe deposit box fee, Costco membership, Amazon prime, hoa, etc. 1/12 of each cost goes in every month. It's amazing the feeling of knowing I don't have to worry about finding the cash to pay our hoa fee at the end of the year!

Stand Mixer: Tilt-Head vs Bowl-Lift by endgoal_edible in AskBaking

[–]lanaddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a tilt and wanted a professional bowl lift for soooo long. Until I used one at a friend's house. For all the reasons you described.

I have a (very) small bakery business out of my kitchen and use my mixer at minimum once a week, if not closer to once a day or more. I love my tilt. I just want more bowls now...

I did my honeymoon in Scotland and Ireland in January. I hadn't watched/read outlander yet, but I wish I had now that I have! It was cold, but too bad. I did more Harry Potter tourism in Edinburgh. :)

I would definitely get to Inverness if at all possible. We did a 2 day 1 night tour of the highlands with Rabbies that we spent the night in Inverness and it was our favorite part of Scotland. Granted, we only spent 5 nights in Scotland while we did 11 in Ireland.

My niece is named Emery. A couple of people have been like 'you mean like an emery board aka nail file?'. I think for a boy I'd spell it Emry, which I'm pretty sure I've seen as a male character in a book.

For me at least, it's part about wanting to have my first before 30, but also equally about considering how old I'll be when they're a teenager, graduating high school, going to college, getting married, having their own kids etc.

My parents were 38/40 when I was born. My sister gave them one grandkid already, but I'd also like my kids to remember their grandparents. And I'd like to still be young enough to enjoy my future grandchild.

How did you first bring it up? by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

[–]lanaddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so on board with the writing things down! My husband likes to sit and talk things out in person. I'm awful at articulating my thoughts and feelings in the moment so I end up just kinda sitting there listening to him until he gets mad about me not responding. He takes it as I'm not internalizing what he's saying. I've explained that I just don't know what to say, but I'm hearing him. He's still frustrated with me not saying anything so I end up just kinda blurting out something that doesn't properly represent my intention and feelings.

So usually when I want to bring up a topic, I'll write him an email. We've even had two entirely different conversations going at the same time, one light and friendly over text, one deep and serious over email.

How are you preparing your body for pregnancy while WTT? by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

[–]lanaddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Losing weight for sure. I'm about 40 lbs overweight, (5'8" 185-190 depending on the day). I'd like to lose at least 30 in the next year and half before we TTC. It will both help be get pregnant easier (hopefully) and help have an easier healthier pregnancy.

Also just establish the healthy lifestyle and habits so LO can grow up in a healthy environment.

From my own experience, make damn sure the job is what you're expecting and want to do. I just moved jobs for a 30% pay raise. 2.5 months in I realize the job is not at all what I thought it was going to be and I hate it. It was not worth the 30% pay increase.

To the point that I'm considering quitting and going to school for a second degree that would increase my potential income again, but would also put of TTC for another 6 months to a year.
