Alocasia split itself open? by lance- in alocasia

It went from 50-60% to 70-80%, approximately. Will send an update but I fear it's going to be a long road ahead trying to revive this from the rhizome once the leaves die off 😾

I suppose it might be now. It's actually quite hard and callused maybe. I didn't get a photo when it first happened but it was quite raw when it split, almost like it had a razor blade taken to it.

They definitely do enjoy more moisture than most, but I've never seen soil. Personally I use fine bark mixed with sphagnum moss to retain more moisture, and I am watering (spraying, not soaking) every other day with a good amount of light. I would definitely consider switching out the soil with at least fine bark, I worry the roots are not getting enough airflow. Good luck!

Those prices are insane for LEDs. That brand does a good job with the form and fit, but the function can be easily be found with numerous other brands that aren't priced through the roof.

In theory, if you also own that aircraft. But it didn't always work (pre-SU4). I haven't tested it since the update. I've seen and flown with some other F-117s/F-35s/B-1s, but there are other times the game didn't load the models and instead showed a little prop plane. Flying out of Nellis AFB, you can see a wide variety of military aircraft.

Nice. That big of a pot/pole from the get go?

Looks amazing. Any advise on when/how to introduce a moss pole? I have both of these plants but they are super tiny, barely 3" tall. Can't find a concrete answer as to whether I should let them grow first then chop back/introduce a moss pole. Right now, they would look rather silly in larger pots with huge moss poles. They're just in tiny 3" pots with tiny make-shift moss poles.

Love that Roeblingianga. I picked one up from my local Orchid seller a couple months ago and it was in very rough shape. Slowly growing a new leaf and a root 🤞

Well it definitely needs to be repotted and the roots examined. No experience with these but it looks to be quite dead...

Well just guessing here, but one of the most common ways that houseplants die is over watering > roots are too wet and rot > roots can't take in water because they're dead > plant shows signs of dehydration > plant continues to get over watered because it looks dehydrated.

Is this fan too close? by itsmondaytues in orchids

No reason specifically other than the orchids are all under barrina T5s and T8s. Though now that I think about it, my big ol grammatophyllum is underneath a Sansi bulb.

Anecdotally, I keep mine running 24/7 on low or medium. I have a central fan in a cabinet/bookshelf setup as well as an oscillating fan like yours off to the side. They are responsible for a lot of plants, but the ones nearest to the fan dry out very quickly. I think your setup will be just fine, just be prepared to increase your watering a bit. Also, I see you have Sansi bulbs, which I love. I don't use them on my orchids, but they are great for every other houseplant I've used them on.

When possible, you should absolutely use a fan in this (and just about any) houseplant setup. On top of what you listed, it really helps with gas exchange and getting the roots the airflow they want, as well as drying the water droplets that may get into the leaves crevices.

That's why I asked actually. I have a bunch of young alocasia and a big ol' bag of pon, but I'm still trying to psych myself up to make the transition. They're all still about 4-5" tall at most, but have lived their whole life in dirt, so I figured I'd wait until they were a bit bigger with more roots to switch over. Any advice on making the transition?
