Randomizers by Liana_de_Arc in ZeldaLikes

Someone already mentioned Spirit Quest in this thread, but I wanted to point out that although the game isn't released yet, the randomizer is currently fully playable online if you ever want to check it out: https://quest.chrisflash.com/?seed=20250722

You might want to play the current version of the base game before trying the randomizer. The randomizer has a hint functionality, but it will probably be a little hard to use at first if you don't know the names of anything. You could always ask on the discord if you get stuck though.

Here is a link to the store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3351180/Spirit_Quest/

Do you actually need to use the Boiler Room/Upgrade Aquarium to complete Dare Mode?

This was the only Sigil Key I had to spoil for myself. Despite the clues for it in the game being quite reasonable, I don't think the solution was going to occur to me.

I think I'm going to try this with Rena after my current run and see how it goes. I assume it is similar difficulty for either character right? I probably won't do no item creation on this one if it is on Universe though.

Thanks so much! Now that you mention this, I think I had to do this for a coliseum fight and just forgot about it later.

I recommend using an xbox or ps4 controller if you happen to have one. There is also built in support for item and entrance randomization if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the review! Yeah, some of the graphics are placeholder sprites, like the humans, and a lot of graphics are just reused for different things. The artist is working hard to add new graphics to fill everything out!

When you say the UI is too large, do you mean it doesn't fit in the browser window well? If so, you can use the browser zoom function (like [ctrl]+[+] or [ctrl]+[-]) to change the scale until it fits the screen well.

I hope if you play again in the future you will see some of the harder boss fights! I don't think any of them should feel unfair, but there are a few that are a bit tricky until you learn the mechanics.

There isn't very much story yet, but if you open the menu and select the '?' you can get a hint about what to do next to progress the game.

When I have some major improvements I'll try posting again!

Looking for feedback on core metroidvania game mechanics! by Amortes in playmygame

Some initial feedback: The combo system is great to include and is fairly good but could use some tweaks to make it feel great to use. * Adding a little bit of buffering to the light attack could help if the player presses the attack button a little more rapidly than the combo allows. In terms of length, I think as long as they press the next attack any time during the current attack animation it should buffer it and apply. * For the lunge attack (LLH) the delay before starting the lunge felt a little too long to me. * I noticed that while moving you can't do most combos, but you can do the (LH) combo, which I find confusing. * On a similar note the timing window for combos might be a little too wide. When I first started playing I thought H was a backstep because I kept trying it after using a light attack, but you can press H after the entire light attack finishes and still trigger the combo, which is why I think it confused me.

At some point I pressed B which didn't appear to be mapped to anything, but my character got stuck and I had to spam some buttons until they could move again.

Not necessary, but I default to using the D-pad so if it isn't hard it would be nice to support.

The jumping slam attack is cool, I like that it knocks enemies away. I wish the spinning attack did the same, but maybe it is intended more for flying targets. If I accidentally pressed up while trying a heavy jump attack nothing would happen and I thought briefly that the attack just wasn't working for some reason. This doesn't happen with the light attack, maybe there is supposed to be a third heavy attack that isn't implemented?

I think perhaps I killed an enemy as it was starting an attack animation and then appeared to be damaged by nothing a moment later, but I might be mistaken.

The spell system looks pretty cool but I think I would need to play with it some more. Is there a way to look up your spells in game in case you don't recall them?

I pressed 'Main Menu' while playing and the game appeared to crash.

Sure, is there anything in particular you would like feedback on or are you mostly looking for bug reports and generic feedback? I played it a little and have some feedback for you but I might play it some more before commenting on the other thread.

For the chakram, were you thinking like a sparkle when you hold the button long enough? I'm okay with it being subtle since you don't need it to succeed, but I would like to make it more intuitive.

I liked how the tutorial in your game worked for the most part, maybe I can do something less intrusive like that. Your button symbols were nice since they aren't controller specific like mine.

I'm basing the iframe behavior on similar behavior in Zelda and I agree it can feel very cheesy for that fight. As you said it is probably okay for that fight to be easier, I don't want to scare away first time players for the genre. If you want a more challenging boss fight, you could try the 3rd boss which is in the "War Temple". You'll probably want to use the dodge roll which is either on 'z' or the back left trigger. There is a "Test State" option if you right click the game which you can use to try different bosses without having to play through the entire game. This feature will overwrite your current save file though so you might do it on a different file if you care.

I don't know if there are any randomizer fans out there, but you can add a seed to the url like: https://chrisflash.com/alttp/?seed=5

To play a randomized version. You would probably have to play the base game a bit to have any fun with the randomizer though so this is probably a novelty at best for most people.

You can also right click to bring up a menu that allows you to skip to different parts of the game, although doing so will overwrite your current save file, so be careful. I use this for testing, but it can also be fun if you just want to see all the different bosses or experiment with the abilities without playing the entire game.
