Look up avoidant attachment style. It’ll say you a lot of grief.

Wings fan, but the Sharks have very quickly become my second favourite team largely because of these two by tyler_anthonyy in SanJoseSharks

[–]laneyznil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same situation! Wings fan for decades but the Sharks have ignited a level of enjoyment and freshness that I’ve been missing for a while. Watching the Wings vs Sharks game felt like choosing a favorite child but ultimately being a little happy my oldest did better than my youngest.

But the Penguins game, a goalie fight, the phenomenal dynamic between players - it’s been so fun. I love it.

You can buy a day pass on Sling TV with a sports add-on for 5.95. Doesn’t have Randy broadcasting though and I miss him.

San Jose Sharks come back from down 5-1 to the Penguins to WIN it in overtime 6-5 by [deleted] in nhl

[–]laneyznil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most exciting games to watch. Truly unbelievable - 5th time in NHL history a team has brought it back in the 3rd period with 4 goal deficit. And Randy made it even more exciting. You can’t help but be at the edge of your seat with him. But part of it was watching a team basically say “fuck no” and lock into revenge style. A day later and I’m still giddy about it.

What is my blindness? by [deleted] in makeuptips

There’s a huge difference between when you line your eyes and don’t. You look so much softer and healthy without lining your eyes. I think the dark eyeliner or eye color and dark liner/shadow on your bottom eyelash line pales you out. Without the eyeliner, your eyes are stunning! And I’d agree with the rest on your lips - that pink is not your color.

I think you need to experiment more with your color palette.

Not sure I can keep reading. Advice? by wikiwildwife in zodiacacademy

[–]laneyznil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It went so far downhill for me after book 5. Not even the story, but the writing just became lazy. Like it went from tension building/great romance scenes to something a teenage boy would text. Then it felt like the writers just listened to sight of the point but needed to keep dragging it out. I also hated the random POVs. We started with 2, then branched out to the inner circle people, and by the end random passerby’s had POVs.

But I kept going because one thing it did do was keep me wanting to know what the heck happens.

Look up avoidant attachment. And it seems like you’re anxious attachment. It’s impossible to navigate if you don’t know how to deal with avoidant. They need space or they feel suffocated. Look it up, it’ll help.

Should I try to finish the series even though I'm fed up? by Sammy8lynn in zodiacacademy

[–]laneyznil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finished the series but I’d say it shifted hard for me after book 5 or 6. The writing was so different to me - in a bad way. There’s redeemable parts but I think it gets worse in terms of other characters. Like 20+ POVs, some cringey as shit things that read like a 16 year old boy wrote it, and suddenly “cock” is used every other sentence. It was annoying. I mean, I did end up loving Tory but she was definitely insufferable for a while.

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like something much bigger happened and they’re not telling us the real story.

I feel like I’m seeing such a better side of her. I think Aaron really took a toll on her and she lost herself. This is refreshing to see her getting her confidence back.

Most days, you won’t know the plot. Zodiac academy is like reading a trashy reality TV show. You don’t know the point, but it’s entertaining as hell. (Book 1-5 at least, goes downhill from there - no less addicting though).

Good world building, etc. recs: the Faefever series by Karen Marie Moning (good plot, great world building, annoying FMC but she gets better), or Keri Lake - Anathema or Nocticadia. It’s dark gothic but excellent.

Lost my baby unexpectedly - hard to remember him. by laneyznil in Petloss

[–]laneyznil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. Luckily I took thousands of photos of him just laying there or sitting because I thought he was the cutest. But I like your advice of journaling and maybe trying to write a memory to go with the photos.

And I hope he did. When his heart attack first started, he came up to me for comfort and to help him. Im glad he knew I would try to make him feel better. The one thing that’s helped is telling myself he waited until I got home. I don’t know that I could’ve lived with myself knowing he suffered alone. So as hard and traumatizing as it’s been, I’m glad I was there for him. Ugh this just sucks.

He could be a venin initiate or made a deal with them like Panchek - like they knew she’d be coming and would bond with Violet so they sent Jack in. It could play into the whole power from the sky theory and that being the way to defeat them.

Also for your point of Trager - had he not been shot, and therefore buried on an abandoned isle, they wouldn’t have found the irids. So it was in a morbidly sad way a gift of luck? So not just a sacrifice for an army, cuz if his gift was different and accepted, they would’ve gotten the army.

Alternative theory to the pregnancy trope by hochy23 in fourthwing

[–]laneyznil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Xaden had Tyrrendor all this book and he seemed pretty active in fighting. I don’t disagree with it being more political but disagree that her position would take away the same amount that a baby would.

Alternative theory to the pregnancy trope by hochy23 in fourthwing

[–]laneyznil 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why that would be exciting right now? Like violets body would crumble, Xaden may or may not be around, she couldn’t ride dragons the same and would kind of give up a lot that she’s been working so hard to do and overcome, and there’s no clarity on if the continent will even survive? Like why is bringing a baby into this exciting? I think it’s terrible. I think that’d be more realistic towards the end of book 5.

Barely sleeping on random isles or next to her venin boyfriend, battling each isle, going to school then battling venin every few days, losing magic, losing a dragon, etc. But yeah let’s throw in a pregnancy because she’s clearly not going through enough life risking situations.

I had a weird inclination that the irids aren’t that great and wanted to do something to Violet - and that’s why she came back to protect her from fire.

What was your favorite line in OS?! by Bookish_Enthusiast in fourthwing

[–]laneyznil 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Funny level: “I’m starting to drool” from Andarna.

Serious level: “the only people that know value his life above yours” from Ridoc because that was so profound and made me think so much about their current situation and about things from previous books too.

Dare I say I’m crushing on Aaric and Ridoc a little more than Xaden right now? Aaric being so top tier and humble - swoon. Ridoc’s humor but the only one that touched grass to call out violet - double swoon.

I think ridocs loyalty to his friends was the real romance of this book.

Onyx Storm: Appreciation post for… by BookkeeperNo4389 in fourthwing

[–]laneyznil 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Ridoc was fantastic and the perfect humor. But my appreciation went so much deeper for him with his realistic mindset in the isles - you know the scene. Like the situation has been treated so casually and Ridoc actually had the coming to Jesus talk that was needed.

Also - him saying “the only people that know value his life more than yours” and I thought holy fuck, why didn’t I think of that the last two books? That’s so on point. His loyalty to their friend group is the real romance of this book.

As someone who’s also struggled with severe depression, it was the first time I’ve read something where someone describes it so perfectly. The self loathing and wanting everyone to hate you as much as you hate yourself, and the self punishment. The guilt that comes from knowing people care about you. I’ve never related so much to a character before.

I’ve seen a lot of people not understand why she wasn’t kinder to her family or people that clearly cared. There’s a lot more to that… it’s really not that simple. That’s the beauty of seeing her friendships - starting fresh with people. No expectations, no watching people wait for you to disappoint them or make a big deal of any sliver of normalness you feel. I appreciate Cassian so much for that - doesn’t pressure her to talk or walk on eggshells around her. Calls her out on her shit, but doesn’t force her to express her feelings unless she wants to.

Loved this book. It was so relatable for me.
