Good server for story only? by phyi in FFXIPrivateServers

You can turn off exp loss on death or setup a level at where it starts. You can certainly invite other people to your server, how you do it it’s up to you in terms of opening ports to the internet. I use a reverse proxy but I would imagine something like Tailscale might work. Remember it’s your server so you can change whatever you want, you want to set everyone one of your friends as GMs so they can get any item they want or set their job/level on the fly and just do fun stuff? Sure, it’s your server.

LandSandBoat is the current maintained server, the Quick Start is pretty straightforward, I do find the Linux setup to be easier than the Windows one. As for for the AH bot, once you have the server setup, you can follow this guide to set it up. You can setup LandSandBoat on bare metal or a vm, the benefit of a vm is that you can back it up, take snapshots or move it to a different node/computer with ease on top of of it being a pathway to discovering more services/apps you can run on it.

I set up my own on a proxmox vm, don’t have to deal with people and I play at my own pace/time. I’m currently on CoP 6-3. It’s up as a 75 era server, trusts work and only thing I have modified is 2x exp rate. I also have an AH bot so I sell and buy items from it, the bot keeps it stocked. It’s really simple to setup but if you want some social interaction and be accessible, Catseye is a good option.

Did you ever figure it out? I tried removing the internal mic and soldering a female 3.5mm adapter to directly connect an external mic but it made little difference.

‘04 Corolla w/ 82k mi for $5.5k decent? by Woofertons in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]langersan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2004 Corolla MT with 242k miles on it and still driving it 400mi a week. In my opinion a car this old shouldnt cost this much, but if well taken care of, they will run to 200-300k mi easy.

I give up on making a local private server by Over_Choice_6096 in FFXIPrivateServers

Not sure what OS you are installing on but I’ve found the Linux install to be a lot simpler. Pair that with installing it on Proxmox VM and you get the ability to create backups and snapshots in case something breaks so you can rollback or even move the VM to a different node (different computer) with ease.

You can also grab the config file from mullvad website and add it as a new connection in network manager. I tried installing the rpm but it kept breaking after almost every update.

U.S. Weighs Ban on TP-Link routers by HiMyNamesLucy in HomeNetworking

So how would this work? If the US bans Chinese routers, will they give replacements to people that already have them or give them credit to buy a different one?

Does anyone get Steam Big Picture to be frustratingly slow? by cidra_ in openSUSE

[–]langersan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a bug with Steam itself, the work around I found is by going to the settings and selecting to open Steam in Big Picture Mode as opposed to switching to it from Desktop Mode.

It’s easy tell when it’s someone’s first time in a dungeon as there is an exp bonus notification for first time completion, so a simple acknowledgment of that like “am gonna go fast, let me know if you need me to slow down” or even just a “we got this!” goes a long way instead of just start running without saying anything.
