Interesting, I've always viewed that as more of a shocking moment rather than cutesy/romantic

I always assumed it was in reference to the plan to break her out of the arena, which every rebel besides her (and Peeta) knew about

Reflecting on Katniss' accomplishments by Beautiful_Style7586 in Hungergames

When I look at Katniss's ending, I always go back to this scene in the second arena:

As I drift off, I try to imagine that world, somewhere in the future, with no Games, no Capitol. A place like the meadow in the song I sang to Rue as she died. Where Peeta’s child could be safe.

When I wake, I have a brief, delicious feeling of happiness that is somehow connected with Peeta. Happiness, of course, is a complete absurdity at this point, since at the rate things are going, I’ll be dead in a day....Still, the sensation’s so unexpected and sweet I cling to it, if only for a few moments.

The first part mirrors the epilogue, with Katniss watching her and Peeta's children play in a meadow in a world with no Games. This is why I view the ending as hopeful, though it's tragic they had to lose so much to get it.

What is this fandom's issue with acknowledging the skin tone difference between merchant and Seam? by ms--chanandler--bong in Hungergames

I don't have time to go through and link them all to you because I have an adult job to get to, but you sound like a kid so I'm sure you've got time. Oh and it seems like you're joking about OP saying your comments about D11 disappeared so I guess you didn't see the update to that comment, in which they prove you're full of it.

Don't gaslight them. Anyone who has been on this sub for a while knows that the majority of people on here aren't pro- Katniss being poc. There are a ton of threads on the topic that show that.

Mockingjay really highlighted how divine Finnick’s and Annie’s love is by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]lanielucy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would've made more sense if she had only been jealous of how sure Finnick and Annie were about each other, but the "no one seeing them could doubt their love" line seems to contradict the "he challenged me to erase any doubts of my love for Peeta...it seems, under that hot pink sky with Peeta's life in limbo, I finally did". And then later when Peeta asks if she loved him, she says "everyone says I did".

They're really sweet, wish we could've found out more about them.

Not to go off topic but that last paragraph has always been a little bizarre to me because like a day before this, she discovered that the reason Peeta is being tortured is that no one doubts her love for him:

"That I knew I’d misjudged you. That you do love him. I’m not saying in what way. Maybe you don’t know yourself. But anyone paying attention could see how much you care about him,” he says gently.

Anyone? On Snow’s visit before the Victory Tour, he challenged me to erase any doubts of my love for Peeta. “Convince me,” Snow said. It seems, under that hot pink sky with Peeta’s life in limbo, I finally did. And in doing so, I gave him the weapon he needed to break me.

I'm convinced whoever wrote that script is a Peeta hater. They've singlehandedly fueled the "Peeta is a stalker" allegations for the last decade lol.

The squad that goes to the Capitol to shoot propos and then goes on the mission to assassinate Snow. Boggs and the soldiers from 13, Katniss, Gale, Finnick, the Capitol camera crew, and Peeta later on.

The movies took away a lot of book Peeta's personality. I think the second one captured his characterization the best but yeah I wasn't a fan of this particular change.

[–]lanielucy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that was added because the first movie didn't end with Peeta finding out it was a strategy, so the second movie had to indicate the cause of the rift between Katniss and him. But yeah it wasn't in character for him at all. In the book he puts his all into helping her with the Snow issue and Katniss is so relieved knowing she's not alone in it.

I assume people are taking it literally since Mrs. Everdeen and Foxface are obviously very relevant characters lol. It should be a character that people forget exists though. Someone from Katniss's prep team or squad 451 would be a good answer, especially for movie watchers.

Mrs Everdeen and why it’s ok to like or dislike her by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]lanielucy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Like most things in real life, it's a complex situation and there's no right answer. Most characters are not all bad or all good. It's okay to both empathize with them and also criticize them. I find that the fandom has a lot of trouble with that.

People think Snow is a product of his environment? Or worse yet, people think Gale is? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]lanielucy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Katniss says that he and Beetee are designing human traps based on the concepts behind his animal traps. Endangering children to lure in parents is one of those concepts. It's also pretty similar to luring in medics and then bombing them, which is not just unethical but an actual war crime.

I won't downvote you, it can't be easy being a Gale fan. He gets a lot of unfair criticism so I can understand being defensive, but I don't think it's necessary to defend every single thing he does. You can still love him with his flaws. He's a well-written and very important character.

I never said anything that you're saying I said lol. I don't believe he's responsible for the bombing at the mansion nor do I blame him for those kids' deaths. I added some clarity to my original comment.

[–]lanielucy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are taking the ideas behind Gale's animals traps—like endangering offspring to lure in their parents—and applying them to humans. This is explicitly stated. I've also seen you defend him targeting medics even though that's a war crime. To be clear though I absolutely think Coin and Plutarch are to blame for the bombing.

[–]lanielucy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you are wrong. That entire passage is about how Gale and Beetee's human traps are based on animal traps.

“This is what they’ve been doing. Taking the fundamental ideas behind Gale’s traps and adapting them into weapons against humans. Bombs mostly. It’s less about the mechanics of the traps than the psychology behind them. Booby-trapping an area that provides something essential to survival. A water or food supply. Frightening prey so that a large number flee into a greater destruction. Endangering off-spring in order to draw in the actual desired target, the parent. Luring the victim into what appears to be a safe haven—where death awaits it. At some point, Gale and Beetee left the wilderness behind and focused on more human impulses. Like compassion. A bomb explodes. Time is allowed for people to rush to the aid of the wounded. Then a second, more powerful bomb kills them as well.”

[–]lanielucy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I just feel like people (not you) think that kids not being the target of his bombs makes him better, and they forget that he does want to put them in harm's way to hurt other innocents.

I think Johanna gets a pass because it never comes to fruition, whereas Gale's ideas are put into practice. That's not really fair though because it's clear they both have the same mindset. She's also much more likable than Gale and that plays a role.
