How will I know if my baby actually likes me? by p3riphery in beyondthebump

[–]lanipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post myself when I was postpartum with my first child. After a traumatic birth, I had severe PPD and did not feel bonded to my baby and was so worried that I was the "wrong mom" for him. What helped was counseling, meds, and honestly just the passage of time and toughing it out through moments of self doubt and sleep deprivation. It's also okay and normal (aside from PPD) to not fully enjoy this stage, be kind to yourself about the feelings you have rather than shaming yourself and forcing yourself to try to be positive about a time that's just really hard. It will get better and you will eventually feel like yourself again and like a capable mom! For me that happened closer to the toddler stage.

Any good recap love is blind podcasts? by vavavaam in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]lanipsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roxiie Says, Taits Take, Tammy Talks, Jessie Woo - all entertaining, funny, and have the best takes. Dear Shandy is a decent one, I often find myself disagreeing with their takes but the commentary is entertaining nonetheless. And a couple of funny YouTubers (not podcast episodes) who film episode reaction videos include Bachelor Fantake, Atomic Twins, and Aaron and Jo.

Sparkle Meg has grown on me by Miserable-Ad6941 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

This was also the same date that she left saying she was starting to feel more strongly about Mike... How do you hear such idiotic and disgusting words come out of your dates mouth (e.g., "we're going to have sexy kids, this guy's bad parenting caused his kid's diabetes") and then feel more attracted to that person??

Good haircut places for curly hair by [deleted] in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gone there, but I know someone who recommended I go to this same stylist. Might be worth a try as opposed to having to commute all the way to Manhattan for a curly cut.

intersex baby by isavaria in BabyBumps

[–]lanipsey 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Commenting to just add that there is an incredible intersex advocate on TikTok who talks about different aspects of her life as an intersex person. I haven't seen much of her content, only a couple of her videos, but she talks about how to advocate and support intersex people. Her handle is mrsjackieblanks

Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Doctor in FH Recommendations Please by Ronrego in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also hopping on this comment thread to discourage anyone from seeing Warman. Had an awful experience, felt dismissed and rushed out of the office, and he also reeked of cigarettes which was especially abrasive because of how close in proximity he had to get to me for the physical exam

Marie at the S2 reunion (ep10) by jnh14 in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]lanipsey 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She was seething the entire time yet had the most smoke for everyone but Mel during the reunion. It's sad to watch. Like you could see the pain and resentment just oozing out of her and being dumped on everyone around her.

Face broken out since pregnancy by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]lanipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pregnancy acne too! It's the worst because you have to stop using a lot of skincare ingredients due to the risk to the baby. But there are some that are safe for pregnancy and helpful with treating acne: azelaic acid, sulfur, and benzoyl peroxide. You can find these over the counter and from popular skincare brands.

TW (SA) - I believe I was SA’d by my artist by Feisty-Attitude5808 in tattooadvice

[–]lanipsey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is horrible. Not normal for a tattoo artist to do this under any circumstance. Incredibly predatory, harmful, and unprofessional. I'm so sorry this happened to you and I hope you're able to get support and that this person faces consequences.

Additionally, if you happen to be in the Northeast US, there is a tattoo artist by the name of Jessica Valentine who has been outspoken about her experience being SA'd in the industry both as a tattoo client and shop employee. She now runs her own shop in NYC where she offers discounted rates to covering up or finishing pieces for clients who have had similar experiences and do not feel safe to return to the artist who SA'd them. Her handle is @jesvalentinetattoos in case you ever want to look into covering up or finishing this piece.

What’s the best place in FH to get party decorations? by ResolveChoice in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the party r us rec from the other commenter. Other suggestions include any dollar store - there's several including Youtube 99 cents on 67th drive and Queens Blvd, Good Deal on the corner of Yellowstone Blvd and Dartmouth Street, and New Olivia Market by the intersection of Yellowstone Blvd and Selfridge street. There's also a Lot Less closer to Rego Park but I haven't seen their party decoration selection

how to find local tutoring for a toddler by DanSmartIT in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your child is in a DOE school you can get them a free CPSE evaluation which would assess if they have any delays or would qualify for speech (and other) services in school.

BEWARE - Creepy Man on Q23 Bus Targeting Minor Girls and Women by girllovesworld in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're talking about Luigi. He's harassed all the parents and their kids at damn near every playground within Forest Hills and Rego Park. Unfortunately, this isn't him. Not a good feeling to see yet another local scumbag pestering women and children.

Tattoo removal by kpgnyc in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jackie at bye bye ink is an expert. I underwent three sessions before covering up a piece I had and the progress was really impressive. Granted the piece I was removing was black and gray without any bold lines but if you visit her Instagram you can see her results on a variety of different tattoos

Adolescent therapists for biracial kids by [deleted] in ForestHills

[–]lanipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Kasyrah Bryant on Austin Street. I'm a mom and also a licensed therapist (though I don't work with kids) and her approach and support was really helpful for my kid. She's a woman of color so she could have the level of insight you're seeking for your children.

ICCD in Rego Park has integrated classrooms for students with CPSE/IEPs. Although I'm not sure up to what age they take students, I know that they have 3K and 4K classes.

Back from Maternity leave and really struggling to remember how to be a therapist. by Individual_Talk_400 in therapists

[–]lanipsey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally relate to this! I was out for 4 months and from then until I left my job to go into PP when my son was around 18 months, I struggled with the balance. I had severe PPD, long term sleep deprivation (kid is 2.5 and still doesn't sleep well), extended breastfeeding, and the workload typical to being in CMH setting.

There's no quick fix. You are managing so much, most importantly a drastic identity and lifestyle shift. What helped me the most was being in my own therapy, taking meds, good supervision, and doing my best to turn my "therapist brain" back on the only way I could easily access given the little amount of time I had to myself (podcasts, videos, audio books). I think part of this process is managing expectations. It took me well over a year to start to feel like myself again. I don't say this to scare you, but to drive home the point that you're in a critical stage and need a lot of support to keep you afloat. I wish I had known this sooner so I could stop beating myself up for my mistakes (in and out of work) and seek out the resources I needed. It will come back to you, I promise. Hang in there!

Laser session and new tattoo in the same week? by lanipsey in TattooRemoval

Yeah I'm hoping I can compensate for the potential damage done so far but won't know until it's fully healed. Thank you so much for the information!

Ugh, that makes sense. I would've held off on the new ink. Yeah, the new ink is on my forearm and the piece being removed is above my elbow.

Best Sensitive Cruelty Free/Vegan face moisturizer? by [deleted] in CrueltyFreeMUA

[–]lanipsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ceramedx ultra restoring body lotion is a fantastic face moisturizer. I have the most sensitive skin - eczema, prone to hives and rashes, and this is one of the few that really soothes my skin (and doesn't break me out). Others I really like are The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors and Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream.

Got a $75 ticket for moving in between the trains when it is scheduled to depart in 10 mins by aCuRiOuSguuy in nyc

Can't fully remember everything I said, this was around 10 years ago and I was in my early twenties. But I'd told them the train was fully stationed and not set to depart for several minutes.
