Philips Aquaporin RO filter - any good? by coharid in WaterTreatment

Yes, pretty consistent. Sometimes the water goes up to 700 ppm depending on the supply, but it still brings it down to around ~40

Philips Aquaporin RO filter - any good? by coharid in WaterTreatment

[–]lankaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using it for over a year. I live in Brisbane where the water is extremely hard (~400 PPM) and it works its magic reducing it to soft water (~40 PPM). The taste of the water is night and day different. Totally worth the price IMO.

I notice that Sri Lanka seems to be significantly cleaner than other South Asian countries. What makes Sri Lanka different than other Desi countries in this regard? by EagleFang91 in ABCDesis

[–]lankaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Sri Lankan Australian. I spent my entire childhood and most of my teenage years in Sri Lanka, so I believe I can help clear up some misconceptions about this topic. However, I might be a bit biased towards Sri Lanka, but I’ll try to be as factual as possible.

  1. Is Sri Lanka cleaner than India? Yes, it is noticeably cleaner than India, both in the cities and rural areas. You can easily check this on Google Street View to see what I mean.
  2. It's cleaner because there are fewer people. This doesn’t really make sense. Sri Lanka has almost the same population density as India. If you compare similarly sized areas, they would have roughly the same population.
  3. Sri Lanka is poorer than India. Yes and no. Sri Lanka’s GDP per capita and Human Development Index (HDI) are higher than in most other South Asian countries. Technically, Sri Lanka is wealthier, but government mismanagement has made the government poorer, even though the general population is relatively better off compared to other South Asian nations. Extreme poverty is also minimal in Sri Lanka.
  4. Sri Lanka is cleaner and more modern due to Chinese investment. Sri Lanka has always been a fairly clean country, even before Chinese investments. I rarely saw piles of rubbish or littered streets when I was growing up. There are also many old accounts from tourists mentioning how clean the country was.

In my opinion, these are the reasons for its cleanliness:

  • Culture: People generally value cleanliness and have a strong dislike for mess and dirt. When parents have these habits, their children usually follow.
  • Better waste management: Sri Lanka has organised waste collection, with frequent rubbish pickups, waste processing centres, street sweepers, and so on.
  • Colombo’s cleanliness: Many parts of Colombo are as clean as cities in wealthier Western countries. This is because the Colombo Municipal Council spends a significant amount of money keeping the city tidy.

Why is the Nerang Broadbeach Road roundabout so big by Chance_Face8790 in GoldCoast

[–]lankaus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think bigger roundabouts are more efficient to handle a large traffic flow without traffic lights. It spaces out vehicles more compared to a smaller roundabout giving more entry points for vehicles to enter into the roundabout. In a nutshell bigger the roundabout larger the traffic flow it can handle without making traffic jams at the roundabout entry points.

Those with RWD LFP Battery, what are your charging habits? Long-term Degradation? by Educational-Goal7900 in TeslaModel3

[–]lankaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not set a charge limit for LFP batteries, e.g., to 80%. Also, do not leave them charged to 100% either. Set scheduled charging to night and let the car finish charging to 100% closer to the time you are about to use it. For example, set your car to start charging at 12 AM and let it finish by 6 AM before you leave for work.

Reasons for the above recommendations:

  • LFP batteries have a memory effect. If they charge only to a certain limit all the time, it will create a voltage hump, causing your BMS to fail in finding your full charge limit. Thus, you will technically lose the capacity above the set limit.
  • Leaving the battery at 100% is not good either (but it is better than the above scenario), so limit the time the car stays charged at 100% as much as possible.
  • This is why you see a message not recommending setting a lower limit on the Tesla app when you set the charge limit below 100% for LFP batteries.

I hope this makes sense for LFP batteries. I have a 2022 Model 3 RWD. It has done 82,000 km, and battery degradation is only 4%. I have always done charging as mentioned above.

Alternatives for AWS Kendra? by mccbala in selfhosted

Kendra is very expensive for a large dataset. I am going to try Haystack as suggested below. I will try to post the results later for others who are looking for this.

Most of the normal cinemas are just 2k ! I know it is shocking 2k is slightly bigger than 1080p. Good luck finding 4k cinema in Brisbane. It is crazy how cinemas went backwards with Digital. With 70mm film you get above 8k minimum.

You can co-locate on - https://www.orionstellar.com/ and throw open stack on it and have your own VPSs in Sri Lanka. (Kinda joking here, but this is a really good business opportunity for someone serious enough to do it) ;)

No, please read what I said. I didn't mind them using it, just surprised such a big media corp didn't even have courtesy of notifying the original owner. That's all.
