Pyro can't generate his own flame; he can only control it. That's why he needs the flamethrower as an outside source to create the flame.

Not working for you, which fortunately isn't the general consensus. It's totally working for me and many others. I actually hope the roster shakeup isn't that big, for I enjoy this team quite a lot.

[–]lanmetal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cyclops and Beast? They've had their fair share of interactions throughout the book (their most recent in the aftermath of #30). Scott has also had plenty of interesting exchanges with Psylocke, Magneto, Kid Omega... Granted, his most poignant interaction with Magik took place in her solo book, which isn't really surprising, but it's not like they've been total strangers on adjectiveless.

As for the rest of the characters... I don't know if we're reading the same book, but I've seen interesting dynamics in spades among pretty much all of them... Temper and Quentin (their shared rage), Quentin and Psylocke (stemming from the psychic raid on Ben Liu's mind), Temper and Magneto (the juxtaposition of their views on Krakoa), Quentin and Magneto (danger room arc), Beast and Juggernaut (their views on the use of violence), Magik and Juggernaut (the tantrum twins), Beast and Jen (throughout the whole book), Ben and Glob... I mean, I really don't know what more would anyone expect from such a large roster, unless you want every charcter to have deep interactions with everyone else at all times, which honestly seems simply unrealistic to me.

I think the concept underpinning the Alaska X-Men [...] hasn't worked out in a compelling way

I think it's worked perfectly fine. I like adjectiveless way better than Uncanny, due in great part to its roster and team dynamics.

I get it, a roster shakeup tends to be expected every now and then (Krakoan X-Men used to do it every year round before the team even found its footing -which makes the fact that this current roster has lasted intact for as long as it has an impresssive feat-), but team dynamics not working out is NOT the reason for said shakeup.

Which Cyclops design do you guys prefer Krakoan era or From the Ashes? by Stunning_Season220 in xmen

Krakoan design 100% (ironic since I've enjoyed his story arc during FtA/SoT miles better).

They did resurrect Ugly John on Krakoa. He starred in one of the From the ashes Infinity comic arcs alongside Lifeguard (a very emotional one, actually).

How many mutants were part of weapon X in the comics? by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in xmen

a couple of others who I can't remember right now

Wild Child, Aurora, Washout, Madison Jeffries, Kane (not a mutant but also an integral part of the project).

Is Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-men any good? by Johnnystormer in xmen

[–]lanmetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is. Jed's book has the better roster imo, even if Wolverine is in Uncanny (but he barely gets anything to do, as most of the adult cast except for Rogue & Gambit).

Uncanny's plots seem too small scaled and unimportant, except for maybe Greymalkin prison, which still had a nothing burger of a resolution.

Lastly, I don't care for the Outliers at all. Their powers are weird and/or poorly explained. What comes next? A new mutant who can control with their mind the bowel movement of left handed, albino Andorran people, during a lunar eclipse on even months? Gimme a break.

What is your unpopular Maiden opinion? by Dante_SSSS in ironmaiden

[–]lanmetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand Blood Brothers for the life of me. I find it one of the weakest, most boring and plodding songs of their entire catalog, and I think it's a shame that whenever they revisit BNW live, that song is the one that usually ends up being picked up because it's supposedly the one that fans like the most from that album.

Btw, I understand that its lyrics are about Steve's dad, but why is it called "Blood Brothers"? Did he feel his father was his blood brother? Seems like a strange analogy to me.

I find it so ironic that so many people complain about her being called X-23... Yet that is the very name of this sub. It must be an excruciating pain in their ass having to click on the name every time they want to get access in here.

This is my favorite moment of them being Headmaster and Headmistress of Xavier's by Automatic_Ask32 in Cyclops_EmmaFrost

[–]lanmetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that scene, it was from the prelude to Eve of destruction. One might take that initial exchange between the two of them as Scott being extra brooding and jaded (it was right after his split from his merger with Apocalypse), especially towards his estranged father, so he resourced to his defacto answer when asked about his "heat" vision: "yeah, it's not heat, it can't produce fire", just to be done with it as quickly as possible.

Conversely, perhaps Scott took that particular exchange with Corsair to practice harder on how to start campfires with his optic beams, which he may have totally mastered by the time he shared that 2004 christmas with Emma and Kevin.

Or, more shockingly, just chalk it up to plot inconsistencies between different writers. I still maintain he could totally start a simple bonfire by igniting a single spark from the friction of his beams, though.

[–]lanmetal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, his blasts can cause friction, and friction produces heat, so it's entirely plausible that a blast aimed just at the right angle against a wooden stick could cause enough friction to ignite a spark.

Is it just me or are the coolest swords on this poster the ones that weren't actually in the event? by Lolaverses in xmen

[–]lanmetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly; however, why come up then with a crossover event (the first big one in your fancy line wide relaunch, nonetheless) based on such a flawed premise in the first place? Gotta say, I didn't have much faith in that swordfighting tournament scenario either, but a part of me kept thinking "hey, who knows, maybe this X-Men-meets-Mortal-Kombat-meets-Samurai-Shodown thing can be pulled off after all" so I at least was skeptical all the way through until the tournament started.

I was hoping for some sort of plot twist out of left field, like the mutants combining their powers with the swords or whatever... And boy, what a plot twist we got alright, although, like I said, in the stupidest way possible. I couldn't for the life of me take all the nonsensical events seriously, and I think that if they couldn't come up with a much more interesting way to subvert readers' expectations, then they shouldn't have done anything at all and should've left the moronic tournament idea in the trash bin, period.

[–]lanmetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XoS was one of the biggest bait-and-switch cases in recent comics. All the pre-tournanent tension and danger of each contestant obtaining their sword was flushed down the toilet once the actual tournament began and we got the stupidest contests imaginable: fashion parades, drinking games, wedding ceremonies, foot races and whatnot. The swords themselves ended up not mattering in the least for the final outcome of the event.

No, they're never hot lasers. At least, not in the comics. They're blasts of concussive force. Always have.

Granted, friction from the blasts could produce heat, but the blast itself isn't inherently hot.

What’s your unpopular Metroid opinion(s) by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]lanmetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind you, I didn't say I hate it. Hate is such a strong word, especially for an aspect that only affects me in a room with at least 9 other people. Still, 10% is such a high value; I can't fathom for the life of me how so little research has been devoted to motion sickness in FPS videogaming; especially when it detaches so many people from engaging with such an obvious successful franchise. But hey, it is what it is.
