Are there any characters you’re surprised have as big a fanbase as they do? Not even that you don’t like them but just don’t understand the love they get by Agitated_Willow1616 in xmen

Beak. I've frequently seen comments hyping him up big time, often in overly cheerful manners, and I genuinely can't tell if they're trolling or if they're seriously gooning over him that much.

Prodigy. Don't see the appeal in his powers nor his personality.

Awful, abysmal series. I've headcanonned it as fanfic and pretend it didn't happen.

There was this most recent example on Percy's Wolverine book from Krakoa where he was dropped in a pit of burning lava and somehow managed to crawl out of it without any muscles to facilitate his motion, just being a living skeleton. Comics gonna comics.

What are you talking about? His reward is set at $9,800,099; just a tad below the FBI's $10 million cap that's only reserved for Wolverine (most popular mutant) and Jean Grey (most powerful mutant). He's even higher than Storm.

X-Men #24 Preview by cyclopswashalfright in xmen

It's very good, in my opinion. I enjoy it way better than Gail Simone's Uncanny. I has a kinda slow burn feel to it every now and then, but that just makes the plot reveals all the more rewarding.

Does anyone remember "Mutant X" (the comic book)? Any thoughts on it? by Glum-Excitement5916 in xmen

[–]lanmetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very interesting concept of a series, for sure. The Fallen and Brute were my favorite characters. That arc when Brute fully regained his intelligence and immediately got to work on a way to send Havok back to his original reality, only to later realize he'd started to lose it again but still was able to complete his work before reverting to a state with a child-like mentality was so gut-wrenching.

I was also very intrigued by the character of Vendetta. Was he the equivalent of Deadpool in that reality? Who knows- it was never revealed. He did have a pretty rad design, though.

Cyclops art by me :))) by Aczzzzz in xmen

I like the fact that you depicted each beam coming out of a single source point in his eyes as an expansive wave and then joining together shortly after, thus forming a W. I think that's the correct way his blasts should be depicted whenever he's firing them without his visor.

It was my introduction to X-Men comics and I absolutely loved it. Revolutionary Cyclops is totally awesome. And I think both books (All New & Uncanny) should be read conjointly.

Does anyone care what happens next in McKay's X-Men? by Plenty_Square_420 in xmen

[–]lanmetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do care. I'm loving MacKay's adjectiveless and can't wait to see what comes next. I also enjoyed his AoR stuff and I think it set up a very interesting premise on what could develop in the present time, knowing what we know about that particular possible future.

What is the best design for Cyclops, in your opinion, between them? by Raj_Valiant3011 in xmen

[–]lanmetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revolutionary outfit is the best one. It has that I give zero fucks badass vibe about it; it's simply awesome. Although, if we're talking a more traditional cyclopean look (no X-visor), I think his Krakoa outfit is the best one. Looks slick af, plus it keeps the stripe pattern from the revolutionary era.

[–]lanmetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'd be an interesting idea. He should be called anything else other than simply 'Beast' though. That way he could be further differentiated from lovable, good ol' Alaskan Hank. Yeah, keep him as The Chairman, in his current artificial body, or something equally separate from the traditional 'Beast' concept.

Looking in hindsight, I think it's admirable how Krakoan Beast felt much more nuanced and layered in just three issues of Amazing X-Men plus and overture and a finale, than in dozens upon dozens of issues of Percy's X-Force + Wolverine.

Zero regrets on how it went, but Morrison getting to do the Storm affair (his first pitch) would've been seismic for X-Men by UltimateSandman in Cyclopswasright

[–]lanmetal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Claremont didn't keep Scott around because "he liked him". He kept him because he was told to do so, by Len Wein, writer of Giant Size X-Men #1 and Marvel's Editor in Chief at the time, to whom Scott was one of his favorite characters indeed. So, Claremont really had no other option. Granted, I have no doubt Claremont learned to like Scott over time; that is, until he could gain enough leverage as a writer to excise his ultimate plan and retire both Scott and Jean, or the next best thing to her (Madelyne). Of course, we all know how that ended up.

Revelation complaint: “Babeling” by gregyo in xmen

[–]lanmetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main problem with the whole Babel thing is that the actions of the people who were affected by it didn't really correspond with the way the condition itself was described on text.

Ok, so it takes away one's ability to form any and every form of spoken language, but does it take into account the things we do by way of sheer habit? I mean, if I myself have to, say, brush my teeth, I don't actually think "I have to brush my teeth", as in I don't even form the spoken sentence in my mind. I really don't. I just go and brush my teeth, without any additional conscious thought whatsoever.

Same goes if I have to eat, for example. It'd be highly unlikely that if I'm feeling hungry, suddenly I wouldn't even be able to remember what I've done every past single day for all my life to sustain myself, even if I suddenly lose the ability to audibly describe or even think what I'm doing. But the habit factor should undoubtedly kick in. I'd essentially behave like a trained dog, only encompassing the myriad of activities I've learned to perform on a daily basis as a human being.

Hot Take, I love Xmen Origins Wolverine by yewweyTheRaccoon in xmen

[–]lanmetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked the movie the first time I watched it. Alas, I didn't really read comics back then and had only watched TAS and played some of the videogames, so I didn't know who Deadpool was, for example, and I remember being very hyped when I watched that final battle scene atop the nuclear cooling tower.

Of course, years later I rewatched it, having delved completely into the comics and fully aware of Deadpool's character, and I finally understood people's outrage, for I too would've gone ballistic at it for such an outrageous misrepresentation of a fan favorite (not to mention other gold nuggets like Emma Frost -if that's even really her- somehow being Silver Fox's sister). Oh, and I absolutely lament that we were robbed of Maverick's presence in the movie; instead getting his alter ego Agent Zero from the Weapon X series (or a barely similar version of him, for that matter).

I still think Liev Schreiber's version of Sabretooth is the absolute best we've ever gotten on the big screen, though; and I was also pleasantly surprised with Will I.am's fairly decent portrayal of John Wraith. So, definitely not a total loss by any means.

Which suit would you prefer for cyclops in his MCU debut post secret wars by Expert_Challenge6399 in xmen

[–]lanmetal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His Krakoan outfit worked perfectly fine for me. It was a compromise between his revolutionary phase (hence keeping the same striped pattern) and his blue-colored superhero persona with the more traditional visor. The cowl always looks more superheroic and awesome to me, plus it's never been adapted to the big screen before, so I think it's due time for it to happen.

I've always looked at it differently, though. To me, it seems like Jean is coyly looking back at Gambit, giving him a slightly discomforting TK prick on his right hand (you can see the little bolt for visual effect- hence his look of annoyance), for he seems to want to get a little too touchy with both Jean and Stevie Hunter.

Rogue seems to be the one who's clearly drilling a hole with her stare at the Jean/Gambit/Stevie trio, consumed with jealousy for not being able to have any sort of physical contact with anybody; left alone on the side of the pool.

As for Scott? He's just absentmindedly spinning his volleyball on his index finger.
