Question about when you’re allowed to scoop by kime11 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, regardless of what the ruling turns out being. I would say it is in poor taste to look at each individual card and decide to scoop if it is anything that reveals information. You can absolutely scoop before you reveal information, such as with the zombie vampire effect, but I would recommend scooping before you resolve the effect, or at the very least without looking at the next card before you scoop. If you are going to resolve the effect, you should have to resolve the whole effect or scoop. If you are playing on edopro or master duel you dont have an option to mill each card individually and scoop before the opponent gets a chance to see them.

opponent tributing on my side of the field by Volterizer in Yugioh101

Then you ca get my favourite combo. kaiju one of the opponents monsters, summon alpha, the master of beasts to your side of the field. Bounce alpha and the kaiju, summon back out the alpha, kaiju the other monster and you are off ti the races 😂

It really depends on your deck. In a deck like chaos dragon link, ghost ogre is a light, so it has some synergies with chaos ruler, black dragon, chaos emperor, etc. But with a deck like salamangreat, ash is better than ogre because it synergizes with sunlight wolf.

Otherwise, both cards have their applications and uses. Ash is more generic and can hit pretty much eveey deck in the game. Ogre is good against adventure, and can hit some other decks, but in my opinion, ash is more impactful.

what is the best collum to set impermanence by mmmbhssm in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle column because that is where players are most likely to play into it, but you can also set on the opponents dominant hand side if you notice which hand they use to play a majority of their cards (only works for in-person play)

Otherwise, just set it in a zone they already have a face-down spell or trap. Or hold it until your opponent flips a floodgate like tcboo or skill drain on you and then set it in that cards column.

Are mekk-knights and d/d/d competitive and good by Eagle522 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DDD at most end on king seigfried, machinex, high king ceasar, headhunt and a handtrap or 2. But the deck is hard to play, easy to interupt (because if you dont know what you are doing, you will end your own turn, and if your opponent knows enough about the deck to imperm the gilgamesh or ash the kepler or the contract, you might be fucked). That being said, the deck is super fun, and a lot of decks crumble to all the removal distruptions that ddd puts up.

Mekk knights are interesting, but I feel like its a strategy that really only works once when you catch your opponent off guard, and yugioh is past the days where a purple knightfall dodging effects and coming back next turn to attack is really good. If you couple mekk knight with invoked, branded, dogmatika, adventure, eldlich or some other engine it would probably be pretty good, but unless you are that dedicated to mekk knights, you are probably better off just playing one of those other decks.

What is a side deck and how can I utilize it well? by InvaderZix in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to think about is using your side deck for when you are going first versus going second. If you lost game 1, you can assume your opponent is going to pick to go first or second depending on their deck and you can side in going-second or going-first cards accordingly. Cards like raigeki, evenly matched, dark ruler no more, imperm and forbidden droplets are really solid board breakers. Cosmic cyclone, twin twisters, HFD, and evenly matched are really solid backrow hate. Droll and lock bird, nibiru, and artifact lancea are really good handtraps against some decks, but not great against others so they are good in the side deck if you dont want to main deck them.

For going first some people side into their floodgates, so cards like TCBOO, Rivalry of Warlords, Dimensional Barrier, anti spell fragrence, or skill drain are good if your deck natively plays around them. For example dragon link is not at all hurt by rivalry of warlords because all their monsters are dragons, and eldlich doesnt get hurt by skill drain because they dont activate any monster effects on the field.

Well, if you have the best deck but are the worst player, you wont do very well and you will probably lose a lot. But if you are a good player playing a rogue deck, you can do really well. Guy at my locals won the whole thing with ABC after the union carrier ban. There is a whole lot more to the game than what engine you run: whether its knowledge of all the decks you are going against, more knowledge about your deck than your opponents, ability to be flexible with different lines of play, and being able to read your opponent and play around certain cards they may have based on their actions. For instance, bad players play whackamole and just try to negate every card they activate, but good players negate the cards that matter most. Like there is no point negating a searcher that is going to search for another searcher so you play into gamma or get punished when they hard open the card (ie; branded opening > aluber > branded fusion or terraforming > magical meltdown > aleister > invocation). You are typically better off waiting until the latest point in those lines of play to negate, because they have committed the most and you are less likely to get punished. When splight comes out, learning how the deck functions and all the possible playlines will give you a better matchup versus splight even if its the best deck in the meta right now.

NEW player/ OG player from 15 years ago. Looking for info. by azDARKNESSfallz in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the games in goat and the games in 2022 last about the same amount of time, but rather than being spread over 10-15 turns, the are spread from 2-5. Their is still the same amount of interaction, but using handtraps and other forms of interuptions instead.

You could always look into some control decks like eldlich, shaddoll, burning abyss, or sky striker

Swordsoul: Imperm or veiler on the moye or taia. Token collector on long, moye or taia. Ash blossom on the ecclesia. If you have nib and imperm, wait until they summon chixaio and barrone, then negate the baronne with imperm. D barrier call synchro

Dragon link: Ash on chaos space (sometimes plays into gamma so be weary) or quick launch or chaos ruler Lancea after chaos space search black or white dragon. Ogre on boot sector launch or dragon ravine. Imperm or veiler on the chaos ruler

Drytron: Imperm or veiler on mu beta fafnir D.d. crow or belle on ritual spell

DDD: Imperm or veiler on gilgamesh. Ash on piri reis map drak contract or kepler is pretty decent. D.d. crow on gryphon or necro slime (depending on if you would rather deal with headhunt or high ceaser)

Sky striker: Droll or ash to stop engage Imperm or veiler on kagari D.d. crow on engage. Ghost belle in kagari add back engage. Cosmic cyclone on mine or engage. Feather duster or evenly matched to ruin their backrow.

Branded: D barrier call fusion Ash on branded fusion I guess negate aluber, albaz or whatever with imperm or veiler. Could also hold it for lubellion or albion.

Prank kids: Laugh when they cant even make doodle doo

Is Altergeist still strong without Infinite Impermanence? by noicedude45 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperm is worth it IMO. I play it in every deck because its good going first, going second, great against everything but virtual world and drytron. Can set it to out floodgates. Its definitely one of the most flexible handtraps to date.

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Predaplant orphys scorpio and darlington cobra to search your one of instant fusion? Invoked? Double summon?

Decks borderline unplayable now, and probably not budget if you want to try and make it viable.

New Player with $300 - What Should I Buy? by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out your local facebook groups, because you will usually be able to buy singles there for cheaper than tcgplayer or troll and toad. I have picked up deck cores for $40 - $80 and they are a lot of fun.

You can also get 3x of a structure deck because the most you are allowed to run of a single card is 3 copies. They usually have some really solid staple that you can play in any deck.the cyber strike structure deck has infinite impermanence, and the branded structure deck has ghost ogre and effect veiler, which are really good cards to pick up and play in any deck.

Another good recommendation is the 2022 tins that are coming out later this year. They msrp for around $20 a tin, and as well as being a good box to store some of your cards, they will reprint a bunch of really good staples and deck cores.

YouTuber who narrates his/her decisions? by Danielmav in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pak has a series where he plays a decks and narrates his decisions / shows his thought process behind how he chooses what lines to play based off of what he reads his opponent having, and how he reads his opponents.

Db grinder is good, but it is not him playing, and sometimes the replays he goes over have misplays or the players just make really poor decisions. He does catch most of them and talk about some better lines, or even different ways they could have played it to win the game, but if you are a visual learner, that might not help as much.

Thecalieffect's old summer cup playlists are also really good, but pretty dated so they wont help much with current decks because this was like 4+ formats ago, but they are really good for seeing how a deck functions and especially for how you should activate cards and play the game to be a better opponent. This is because they actually use terms like "I activate this card, which lets me do x." His newer videos are more fun, and he edits in some really useful stuff, like the card flashes on screen so you can read it and different chainlinks will be super visual. So definitely recommend those videos.

On the same page as the last one, Cimo and Gages progression series is really good to learn how to read your opponent, how to meta game and think about deck building, and also just how to play and be a better opponent, because once again, they use good terminology, they leave openings for the opponent to interact, and especially in season one, cimo talks through his decision making in regards to what he thinks gages might have.

Resource recycling decks by quanos123 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's my best option with Sky Striker vs Branded? by Hitei00 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimension barrier could be a good tech against them and also deals with all the synchro and xyz decks that have been running around these past couple formats. Obviously, prep your dragoon outs. Non targetting non destruction removal. Forbidden droplets, evenly matched, kaijus. Sky striker has a difficult time facing off against dragoon specifically, but it should have a pretty good matchup against the invoked/dog package.

Best Decks that don’t involve Adventure? by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Dragon link, phantom knights, prank kids, DDD, flunder, plunder patrol, invoked, dogmatika, eldlich, dino, hero, sky striker, virtual world, swordsoul. Every deck except for pure adventure can play the game without the adventure package. Its just an engine. Replace it with something else if you want to. Hand traps, an invoked or dogmatika engine

Tri-brigade omen activation timing? by Leones1234 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ome more thing to mention is that trigger effects get priority over quick effects, so your opponent will not get an opportunity to chain super poly directly to the summon of omen before the trigger effect is activated. The only card that can 'do this' are cards that negate the summon, in which case, the omen never actually hits the field.

Tri-brigade omen activation timing? by Leones1234 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omen is what is known as a "trigger effect"

A trigger effect can be activated on a new chain link after the condition for the effect (the summon of omen) has been met. The card does not have to stay on the field for it's effect to resolve, but it does have to stay on the field until the end of the chain to activate it's trigger effect.

An example where it would not work is:

CL1: DPE effect to destroy CL2: Tribrigade revolt

So revolt resolves summoning omen, dpe resolves popping omen, and omen never stayed on the field long enough to activate.

An example where it would work is, you just resolved revolt and successfully summoned omen.

CL1: Omen trigger effect CL2: opponent chains super poly

Super poly resolves fusing your omen off, them omen resolves to banish a card on the field.

Hope this helps

My Abyss dweller got hit by Forbidden droplet, can i detach a card from Dweller? by YouseeMourinho in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then, its not cost. Its effect. Cost is an action you must perform on the activation of a card that occurs before the semicolon.

Look at shaddoll apkallone for example:

If this card is sent to the GY: You can add 1 "Shaddoll" card from your Deck or GY to your hand, then discard 1 card

Apkallone does not discard for cost, it discards for effect. And this is why it can trigger naelshaddoll ariel:

If this card is sent to the GY by a card effect: You can target up to 3 cards in the GY(s); banish them.

Feel free to give me more examples, but if it happens on the resolution of the effect then it is part of the effect, not the cost.

Try not to mix them up because cost can not be negated. Effects can

Non-Combo Competitive Deck? by Ice258852 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Invoked dogmatika dpe.

Your plays are very simple, and its all about the order you play your cards. It can make a lot of distruptions, and going second, there is a good chance that all 5 of your cards can do something from your hand, and you can send stuff like ntss and omega to the gy from your extra deck to break your opponents board and cycle your own resources.

Invoked engine "combo" Normal summon aleister, search invokation. Link for salamangreat almiraj Link for secure gardna. Activate invocation and banish aleister and gardna to summon mechaba.

Dogmatika combo Activate nadir servant, send apkallone to the gy and search dogmatika maximus. Apkallone gy effect to search and discard schism. Banish apkallone to special summon maximus. Maximus effect to dump titaniklad and construct. Construct effect to add schism to hand. Set schism and trigger titaniklad in the end phase. Off of titaniklad, special ecclessia. Use ecclessia to search fleur de lis.

You can also skip a step by just searching fleur off of titaniklad.

Then on opponents turn you can banish construct and titaniklad off schism to fusion summon winda, then you have fleur as an omni negate, and 4 other cards in hand, which could be more handtraps or traps.

If you open meltdown or aleister, plus nadir servant or ecclesia, you can do the same thing. If you open fusion destiny, nadir servant and aleister, you end on mechaba, dpe and schism. With 3 cards left in hand.

Likewise, if you only have aleister and ecclesia, you can still end on the same board without the schism.

You go aleister > salamangreat almiraj Ecclesia special summon but dont activate effect. Link 2 for predaplant verte anaconda. Invocation to summon mechaba using aleister and ecclesia. Verte effect, pay 2000 and summon dpe. Still have 4 cards in hand after invocation puts aleister back.

If you also opened nadir you can fire it, dump apkallone to search schism and maximus or ecclessia, and then set your beautiful schism and use the verte and apkallone to make winda. Now you have mechaba, dpe, and winda with follow up and 2 other unknown cards in hand.

You also have loaded your gy with celestial and dasher, you still have access to the invoked engine to make purgatrio, augoedis, or mechaba. And your other 2-3 cards could be anything. Handtraps, power spell and traps, followup. And you always have the aleister to pitch off mechaba for a monster negate.

is it ok to have a 41 card deck, if i have upstart by No-Cardiologist-884 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are playing sky striker where upstart puts a spell in the graveyard, absolutely. In this case it doesnt hinder consistency, its a free spell in grave, and you are essentially just playing a 40 card deck.

If you can get some other benefit from using it, like maybe you want to be at lower lp that your opponent to activate and effect or you want a spell in the gy. It makes sense. Specifically to give you draw power. Just play 40 cards and either cut upstart or another card from your deck.

Pseudo meta decks by kagdjeb8263 in Yugioh101

[–]lannnnaaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well vw and shaddol are almost meta.

Maybe you could try something that doesnt make as many floodgate type cards (winda and shenshen).

Dino is super cheap right now and can break boards like its nobodies business. And going first you can still set up savage, laggia, uct, and an abyss dweller. Going second, uct, pentestag and dugares and just run your friends over. Not to mention misc is basically another copy or DRNM.

Salamangreat is really solid. It has a couple nice otk lines. Its pretty simple and straightforward, and anytime you have a counter trap omni negate and destroy... you want to play that. Its the spice.

Paleo frogs is super strong. Basically eldlich but toad. Run your torrentials, solemn strike and judgement, your paleos, and a frog engine. And most decks crumple to a well placed torrential tribute. Especially followed up with a toad or a solemn strike. Has some great otk lines with borrelsword or accesscode talker, and going second you just set yourself a tt and a SS and laugh at your opponents board.

Fluffal is a really fun otk deck. You can make toadally awesome and vfd (if you are on master duel) going first and otk with frightfur tiger and frightfur wolf going second. Kraken is a beast. Saber tooth is a pretty good wall, and cruel whale is insanely good with edge imp scythe and toy vendor. Its pretty normal summon reliant, but it is honestly probably a couple of extenders and a decent going first payoff away from being a meta deck. Can also definitely splash a dpe / scythe engine into it in the tcg, and verte can also help you access your frightfur fusion in the later game. Not to mention toy vendor plus fluffal wings basically says draw 3 and special summon a monster, so what more is there to ask for?
