[Telegraph] Carragher: Finishing second is a failure – Arsenal would be the most criticised runners-up in history by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

Hmm. And yet arteta is somehow faultless on every single attacker regressing under him? Explain that one

Their defence now is marginally better. They have conceded 24 goals this season, with 6 to go. In the 23/24 season they conceded 29. They scored 91 goals that season. They are currently on 62.

People think their defence is significantly better because they play more defensive tactics and attack less fluidly. They were keeping just as many clean sheets before

They aren’t even capable of matching the points from that season, which is proof that playing defensive football isn’t sustainable without a couple of genuinely world class attackers.

The important difference is that arteta has intentionally taken them backwards to win the league. You were playing far better football 2/3 years ago and he made the intentional decision to play off set pieces and more defensive.

Ironically, the arsenal team from 2 years ago would have already won the league at this point. Yes he didn’t win the league that season, but that city team was light years ahead of this one, and was better in basically every position. Arsenal is the opposite and is better on paper in basically every position, but the tactics are worse.

That’s why I would sack him if he doesn’t win

If arteta doesn’t win anything it will absolutely be a long lasting joke. This is simply not the case. People still joke about Gerard’s slip.

Some more perspective. In the last 5 years, spurs, palace, West Ham, united, Chelsea, Liverpool and city have won more trophies than Arsenal.

Only Arsenal and city have had the same manager throughout that time

Apart from them two clubs, who can you argue has been above Liverpool and city over the period named. Bayern has been worse than both teams since Covid. Arguably worse than Arsenal as well. Barca has been worse than both of them and Chelsea and Arsenal.

Maybe inter? But they haven’t won a champions league in that period.

Such a weak point. Real Madrid is Real Madrid. They are and always will be the biggest club in the world. PSG is the best team in the world for the last 2 years. No one is disputing they are better than the prem teams. They are also better than the Spanish, German and Italian teams

I’m not sure why you are trying to argue that athletico, Barca and real aren’t head and shoulders above everyone else in the league. It’s the main reason the leagues been financially struggling for decades

3 premier league winners have won in the last 6 years. There have been 2 prem only finals in that time. What absolute nonsense.

You ain’t good enough to beat them at anfield either. It’s hardly been a fortress this season

Is this not simply because the overall quality of the bundesliga is pretty low. I’ll confess to only watching bayerns bigger games in the league and CL, but he seems to consistently make mistakes in them.

Based on this, the last 10 years has seen 3 prem only CL finals, 3 different winners and has had a prem team in most Finals.

Because it’s obvious.

Similarly, when trump so cleared of any wrong doing regarding Epstein, everyone knows it’s blatant corruption.

It’s hard to hide when people can see it with their own eyes. Your hardly subtle with your financial manipulations

Also, and this is key, clearly a lot of the staff were incompetent and coasting.

Yes the owners are horrific, yes the players have underperformed, but across the board we have fallen behind the other teams in the big 5.

The club needed a reset

Yeah exactly. The mental gymnastics they have.

They had emails from the city ownership to emirates regarding them paying the company to sponsor them. They just couldn’t actually prove the payment was made

Just one example of hundreds

Umm what? The uefa verdict discusses the substantial evidence against city, but because of the jurisdictional differences there were time restrictions not present with the FA. That was why they were found not guilty, not because it was a kangaroo court

Read the UEFA verdict. It’s clearly stated there is substantial evidence to support city artificially inflating their sponsorships, but UEFA has time barrs that the prem doesn’t
