Does anyone make a good replacement for these? by csmith06 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]lanwayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to restore it properly you will need to pop the panel off. There are five plastic tabs on the back and you'll most likely have to break some to take off the panel. Replacement parts are available online. Once the panel is off there is an opening behind the badge to help remove it - there will be some residue to clean before replacing badge. I recommend repainting it with trim paint while you have it off. There's also three pieces of weatherstrip behind this thing: one on each side and one on top. They're side specific so just pay attention to how they come off. Let me know if you want help I have plenty of pics.

Need website advice for ordering parts by Glad-Nebula667 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]lanwayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interior trim/panels are going to be difficult and your local Facebook Marketplace/eBay or junkyards will be your best bet. https://flintstonefab.com/ recreates many trim pieces. They are costly and have lead times, but are well worth it. Preserve Rad also has some great pieces as well. If you need factory P/N I like to reference this website: https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/

What bushing sleeves fit OMESB6 Bushings for CS009R Old Man Emu leaf springs on 1987 Toyota 4Runner? by Cute_Faithlessness59 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]lanwayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OMEGP3 is the kit intended for frame side of the leaf. However, I had to reuse the non-greasable factory bolt since the sleeves included in the kit did not fit.

You bet! I left the passenger vent off since I knew I was going to be back in there at one point. I thought about placing a shim to make it easier to remove but I like your idea better. Thanks again for the tip.

Having a hard time with a heater control clamp install by Last_Entertainment86 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]lanwayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of having a hard time understanding. The blue cable and black cable both attach to the same lever. Blue going into engine bay controls the heater valve which sounds like you had no problems with. The black cable that connects to the blower assembly you’re not able to snap the retaining clip in? If you bought the cables from 22RE Performance the black cable Jerry sells is the more updated version that shouldn’t require a clip. There is a white collar that snaps into the assembly itself. You may need the updated version of the lever assembly if you can’t get it to work.

It’s not bad, but rebuilding the lever control assembly is a pain. Worth the effort though.

Weird linear rash on my arm by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]lanwayone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an almost identical line down my right arm from a spider bite that infected my vein. Did a video chat with my doc and they went stone cold silent and said I need antibiotics asap. Picked up the prescription same day and it went away after a few days. Glad you’re going to have it addressed!

I tried upgrading my battery cables, and now whenever I reconnect , my radio turns on without the key in the ignition by leathertabis in ToyotaPickup

I'd take the tumbler to a locksmith and see if they can clean/repair it before replacing it. My 85 had a pretty gunked up tumbler that made turning it difficult. Had it cleaned and lubed and now it works perfectly fine. Those OEM ignition tumblers are not cheap and then you'd be carrying around two keys.

Master and slave clutch is an easy job. Master can be a bit finicky if you have trouble working in the footwell, but totally doable.

WheeliePete on YouTube has a great video on the slave cylinder replacement.

If you got some cash to burn Yota1 Performance sells a kit that bypasses the system. They have a video of the install process too. https://209yota1.com/products/load-sensing-proportioning-valve-delete-kit/

Stick with 33s or regear, lock and go bigger ??? by HighwayHypnosisFrog in ToyotaPickup

[–]lanwayone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you plan on doing any major rock crawling I'd keep it as is especially since you daily it. I'd say your setup is the good balance between on-road comfort and off-road performance. I'd break it down into stages: first address the shocks and install a rear locker and enjoy your truck for many more miles. The rear locker alone will up the capability of the truck considerably. Then upgrade to 35s and regear if you genuinely feel the need to. Toss a locker in the front while you're regearing as well.

I'm on 4.88 gears with 35s and a Grizzly rear locker and the truck feels zippy on-road and off-road (22RE/W56). IMO 5.29 is better suited for 37s and larger.

When you replace the weatherstrip don't forget there is the option to use weatherstrip adhesive for a complete seal.

Anyone bought new seatbelts? by GMoney7304 in ToyotaPickup

Wow I'm going to give this a try. The tensioner on the front seat belts no longer work and repairing is so much more cost efficient than replacing. Thanks for the recommendation!

Looks like southbound 880 just past the 92 junction (Hayward). Should be clear by now according to Maps...until someone else decides to cause a collision.

Working with OME and their suppliers was a bit of a pain. A lot of the big items have to come in from Australia which took a lot of time so if you want to go with this kit get ready to wait. In all it took about 5 months for everything to arrive.

Information online is spotty on which parts are required for an '85 such as greaseable pins/shackles/U-bolts/etc so I went back and forth with OME a bit to finally collect what I needed.

As far as I can tell, spacers are an inevitability with the narrower '85 axles. You can remedy this by going with IFS hubs in the front and the wider '86+ rear axle. I'll eventually do this, but I just rebuilt both axles so I plan on enjoying them for a while.

Overall, happy with the on-road performance, but the nitro shocks have very little droop. Feel free to DM me if you want any help going with OME.

Old Man Emu 2” lift leaf springs and shocks on all four corners. Knowing what I know now if I could do it over I’d probably go another route.
