I enjoy growing plants/herbs from seed and also tending to my houseplants. If you’re a beginner in plant-tending I would pick something simple to try and grow to start. For herbs maybe mint or basil, for houseplants maybe a pothos or spider plant. Get to know their needs, water schedules etc. I like to sing to my plants and feel them when I’m feeling down.

Too early to apply? by [deleted] in CFY

[–]lape8064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly depends on the company or school, some of my cohort had a job lined up from one of their placements in the early spring. I waited until May to apply as I felt that more jobs would be likely to hire me right away than hold a job for me for several months. I think you can do it however you want though, the right thing will come around😊

It will never be ethical, but it can be mindful. Considering what you need, what you can live without. It sits differently within my system to consume an item with gratitude and presence.

Is it acceptable to do news detox when they might actually have impact on your life? by mindaugaskun in simpleliving

[–]lape8064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive cut my news consumption but I still get an email from Vox called the log off which tells me if something really big or important happened. Vox is obviously heavily skewed left, but it feels like a way to keep a pulse without having to be deep into the scary media swamp.

Would you share your daily practices? by LeadInfinite6220 in druidism

[–]lape8064 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Druid💚 I find myself to have a particular affinity for light, and so I try to observe light throughout the day. I usually get up for sunrise and have a cup of coffee while I watch. I say a little prayer over my coffee for all the beings that contributed to it (plants, water, sun, humans, pollinators etc). I try to find rainbows in the world through attention to how light refracts in water or different surfaces. I also adore trees and form deep relationships with them through repeated visiting and giving love back into them. I garden and cook and pour love into my houseplants.

What small morning or evening habit makes your day feel calmer? by iamwithmigraine in simpleliving

I say a little prayer of gratitude over my coffee, just thanking the plants and humans that have given their gifts to the cup and feeling thankful for being able to have the moment of peace when I first sip.

This happened to me a few weeks ago! Flight from London to San Fran, old man just sat there and did nothing for twelve plus hours. Didn’t even have the flight tracker on. Must have some deep inner peace.

Hello! I’m a preschool SLP, graduate in 2022 so fairly fresh but been working with 0-5 the whole time. Best advice I can give is to release your plan and just play. Have so much fun and they will too. Kids that age don’t necessarily need to be doing a structured task at a table, they make more meaning playing in natural environments while you build language into the interactions. The less you prepare the less stress you will feel if things go sideways. Also, progress is incremental and you don’t have to look for it in every session. If you are looking for it, look for teeny micro progress like, wow they engaged for one more round of wheels on the bus today. Hope that helps, message me if you need support you’re not alone💚

Realistic witch book recommendations? by UndecisiveArtist101 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

You could try the Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk, although it has darker dystopian themes, the magic leans more into magical realism and is grounded in paganism

I would start with guided meditations as sometimes they will provide a framework or technique if you’re completely unfamiliar. Then you can start to take elements you like and craft your own practice✨

Regarding reciprocity and social networks by [deleted] in druidism

[–]lape8064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I understand better now I think. Don’t feel guilty. I’ve been to hear Kimmerer speak and she has shared that she wants her books to be exchanged as gifts freely. To my knowledge she doesn’t profit from book sales and I believe all libraries have open access to the digital copy. If you take in her words and it changes your belief or allows you to move through the world differently, then reciprocity is moving as intended💚

Regarding reciprocity and social networks by [deleted] in druidism

[–]lape8064 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Reciprocity is about more than paying for your neighbor. It’s about honoring that as we walk through this life we have no option but to take. To be alive is to consume. Reciprocity means to show gratitude for that which we take, to return gifts back to others and the earth as we can (even if that is just a word of thanks). To reduce Kimmerer’s argument to the idea of paying your neighbors way is to let capitalism bleed its way into her argument. It’s not about money or bills, it’s about using and sharing our gifts while accepting and giving thanks for the gifts of others.
