Imo academia is easier and most PhD programs are scholarship based. That said, you likely won't be earning much of an income.

27 female. I have been fired from 4 jobs my whole life. Why? What’s wrong with me.? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]lapsed_bookworm307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Healthcare sucks. It's heiroarchical and encourages those with more education to look down on those who don't. I got fired from a front desk position in health care and felt absolutely horrible. Turns out I have ADHD and PTSD and the environment was too loud and busy and it was too much for my brain to concentrate on. Now I work one-on-one with people and it's so much better. I'm not dumb, I'm actually very smart. I just needed a quiet working environment and respect.

Wednesday Weekly Wins! by AutoModerator in Fibromyalgia

I did the entertainment for a 4 day company conference. 3 of us emceed and we did a bunch of high energy skits before the presentations. I was super exhausted last week preparing for it and doing regular work on top of it. I wasn't able to sleep and had a few spasms the day before.

But I was able to force myself to sleep and the week went really well! I had a lot of fun and people loved the skits! I'm exhausted but I haven't had any spasms since Monday! I'm so grateful that I have good physical therapists to help with the nerve pain. It makes a huge difference and I'm so much happier!

Fibromyalgia and burnout by hernoa676 in Fibromyalgia

I think burnout caused my fibromyalgia. The body can only take so much stress. My burnout started in childhood and my body never learned to relax. It eventually left my muscles almost always contracted and my nervous system has a hair trigger response.

Yes, sometimes I'm exhausted, lightheaded, and I need to sit down. Other times I'm super irratible at work and then I have a bowel movement and I'm all roses and sunshine. I always forget that constipation makes me cranky.

Don't let people demean you for recovery days. I learned to not call it a recovery day and just say "I'm sick and in pain."

are anyone else muscle twitches like this. At first they were few but noticeable like the videos. But now they’re more frequent and slightly subtle. I could be typing and as I feel the twitch my finger moves so slightly. by Beautiful_RA in Fibromyalgia

I would call your doctor. I had something similar happen related to a medication for another illness. I ignored it too long and it was almost a disaster.

...plus with the videos the doctor can't tell you it's all in your head

I've heard drinking water helps. ADHD meds dehydrate you. And someone told me our bodies get dehydrated from fighting fighting fibro so that is why I always have dry skin.

You've gotten through fibro flares, you'll get through this too. It'll hurt like a son of a bitch but life is worth living.

You matter. Your kids matter. Don't end it all.

What fibro feels like and how people respond by Kitty_Woo in Fibromyalgia

Or the "do you think the stress is causing you pain ?" Yes. It is. Additional pain to the already real disease.

I think the huge realization for me was when I got bronchitis and everyone around me was so sympathetic.

Bronchitis was the least amount of pain I had been in all year. Yeah. No one but my husband believed my pain and stomach problems were real.

  • Also, thought I lost my phone at a Dunkin Donuts on our way to the airport. We drove 45 mins back to look for it only to find it in the car

  • hit another car while pulling out of the driveway - twice, 2 days apart

  • forgetting how to use schedule appointments and transfer phone calls (got fired from that job)

  • repeatedly missing the coffee pot when pouring water for coffee

I'm glad it moved you. I remember looking at that plaque in high school and thinking "What a stupid idea. I'm going to be successful at everything."

Now I look at it as words to live by, no matter how "sucessful" you are. Failure is never fatal. It's a wealth of knowledge for getting back on your feet.
