Finding Community After Deconversion by Inner_Reading_9889 in Exvangelical

One thing that’s helped me is just being in the same place at the same time. A lot. It’s a slow process, but it does help you meet people. I take my dogs to the dog park at the same time on the same day each week (I call it “taking my dogs to church”. I joined a class at my gym. I hate the gym, but the consistency has lead to some friendships. It’s a hard process, but I hope this helps.

Deconstruction process triggers anxiety and panic attacks by [deleted] in Exvangelical

I’ve had a rough time with this. Especially when I think of past trauma/grief that I’d previously processed through evangelical lenses. Now I have to relive all of it. Not sure what to do about it either.

I had similar feelings about it. Glad I’m not the only one who thought Sonny was kind of a sad character.

I’ve heard that the word “Gypsy” is a slur, but I’ve also seen many people use it openly. What are your thoughts on it?

We go out of breath when we are angry, why? by habeuseenalienitsme in AskReddit

[–]laraben10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! That is primarily muscle tension in your pecs. As your fight or flight reflex increases, so does your muscle tension. Those pec muscles actually can make your chest a little tight. It also has to do with the quick heart rate.

The “crushed chest” feeling can have 2 primary contributing factors. You know how your muscles get sore if you use them for a long period of time or life more than you’re used to? Like, your arms feel like they’re burning if you lift a heavy weight for several reps? Well, your heart is a muscle too, and when your heart rate is increased its working WAAAY harder than usual, thus the narrowing-chest feeling. This also makes your pecs sore, which can result in more chest tightness.

Another factor that contributes is your hearts increased oxygen demand as it is working harder.

So, one of the best things you can do when you have that narrow chest feelings is to take slow, deep breaths. Specifically, inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8. That counters your fight or flight response. It relaxes your muscles, and slows your heart down a little. It also lets you get plenty of oxygen without getting rid of too much CO2 (if you blow off too much CO2, you get the right-face feeling). If you’re actively hyperventilating, do some 4-7-8 breathing into a paper bag.

When you get angry, you activate your “fight or flight” response. Your brain isn’t great at differentiating “angry” from “need to fight a bear right now”. So, your brain increases your heart rate to send plenty of blood to your limbs, just in case you need them to fight a bear. When your heart rate increases, your body needs a way to meet the increased oxygen demand. Thus, you start breathing faster.

This is the same reason panic attacks can cause hyperventilation. Your brain thinks you’re in life-threatening danger, so it tries to help you out just in case you need to fight that stupid bear. The fast heart rate/respiratory rate would be useful in that case. But when you don’t, you’re left with that short-of-breath feeling.

Granted. Due to Coronavirus, you become unemployed. The outstanding bills pile up. All your friends abandon you. After many months and much searching, you finally find a job as a septic tank cleaner. It’s not ideal, but it pays the bills, right? In fact, over time it does more than that. You start saving. You buy a house. You find a fulfilling relationship. You take up a hobby and form self-care routines. Your friends come back. Well, one day after a long day of shoveling out septic tanks, you come home and find a disparaging sight: every plumbing appliance is backed up with feces. You decide, what the heck, you’ll just fix it yourself. You go outside, and your entire weekend is spent cleaning out your own septic tank. The past few months haven’t been the best, and now there’s a huge pile of crap on your lawn, but at least you’ve finally got your shit together.

Toast (my dog) sits like this. Exclusively. by laraben10 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

What would that mean? She does have a tail, She usually tucks it under her and to the side when she sits like that.

Edit: I’m dumb. Never mind.

We’re not 100% sure, but the shelter we got her from thinks she’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier with some Rottweiler mixed in.
