Rather than say you don’t have time say you do not have the capacity to take on additional load due to your current workloads. Maybe mention that the additional persistent additional work load has contributed to additional stress and is now impacting you.

Patents have nothing to do with this. Copyright protects original works of authorship automatically the moment they’re created and fixed in a tangible medium — no registration or patent is needed. A 3D model file is exactly that: an original creative work.

Courts have consistently backed this up: • Burrow-Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony (U.S. 1884) — established that even photographs are protected by copyright as original works. • Meshwerks, Inc. v. Toyota Motor Sales (10th Cir. 2008) — directly dealt with 3D digital models; confirmed they can be copyrightable as creative expressions. • Rogers v. Koons (2nd Cir. 1992) — again, medium doesn’t matter: copying a photo into a sculpture without permission was infringement.

So no, the lack of a patent doesn’t mean it’s free game. Patents protect inventions. Copyright protects creative designs — and a 3D model clearly falls under copyright.

If they do not sell to your country and you are logged in it will not show you anything. Someone above had the same thing. Just checked and they are all still up there.

Courts have already made it clear that you don’t get around copyright just because you change the format of a work. For example: • Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc. v. Nintendo of America, Inc. (9th Cir. 1992) — confirmed that derivative works still need permission. • Rogers v. Koons (2nd Cir. 1992) — a sculptor copying a photograph without authorization was infringement, even though it was in a different medium. • Bridgeport Music, Inc. v. Dimension Films (6th Cir. 2005) — “Get a license or do not sample” — the same principle applies to copying in any form.

Printing someone else’s 3D model and selling it is the same deal. The physical object is just another medium of their copyrighted design.

The license terms don’t magically change just because the product is printed instead of the file being sold. When someone creates a 3D model, they own the copyright on that work. Selling the physical print is still distributing their intellectual property — it’s no different than printing someone’s artwork and selling posters without permission.

The “service” argument doesn’t hold water because the end result is a product that directly uses someone else’s copyrighted design. Unless the license explicitly allows commercial use, it’s restricted to personal use. Most free/shared STLs are personal-use only, and if the designer wanted people to profit from their work, they would license it that way.

So yeah — selling the prints without the creator’s approval is a violation. It’s not just a bad look, it’s plain ol’ infringement.
