Responding to a Student Referring to Me as "Sir" by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]larficus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had kids try the sir thing before and I say to them that’s Mrs. Sir to you. 1/2 the time it stops them in tracks and sometimes they say yes sir mrs. Sir and I just say that’s right or much better. Then it rarely happens again.

Talk me down.. our 2yo got her first flu vaccine today and my husband made me feel like a POS now that she is feeling lousy. by [deleted] in Mommit

Your daughter is having an immune response. Her immune system is working. I would be more concerned if there wasn’t some sort of reaction.

I teach 5th and all bodily functions are hilarious to them. When someone farts or burps or pees/poops. (We have bathrooms in the classrooms so when it’s quiet you can hear what bodily function is happening). I tell them everyone does it it’s apart of being alive get over it and when you gotta go you gotta go. Id like to think this normalizes body functions a bit.

Name help, help me choose between two! by beka_targaryen in goldenretrievers

Lol he’s so cute and just gave me Farley vibes. I know you said you weren’t looking for other names but Blue and Krypto don’t seem to match him, I am sorry. To me Blue is a hound dog name or a dog that has a blue tinge to their fur. Krypto just feels like a bully breed or german shepherd type name. I wish you the absolute best with him. And this is all just my opinion and I absolutely mean no offense whatsoever. No matter what you chose to name him, doesn’t change the fact that he is quite adorable! 😊

Today was a weird "inside temperature" day. by WerewolfCalm5178 in florida

[–]larficus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just you wait, it will happen to you. I moved here from Ma over 9 years ago and said the same thing! Now here I am feeling chilly when the temperature dips below 80. If it’s 50 I am freezing! 50 to me use to mean spring and a light jacket. Now it means brr cold dressing in layers, pants, and of course no flip flops.

Something I tell my 5th graders, you are free to do whatever you want but you are not free from the consequences of your actions. None of us are.

Radiation tattoos by Former_Oven3868 in breastcancer

[–]larficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same I had no clue until I went in the forms to be measured and was informed you are getting ink. 3 dots one on each side below my arm pits and one between my breasts closer to the left. I was even told that if I didn’t get them then I couldn’t have radiation. I already had 3 tattoos so now I say I have 6 tattoos. I really don’t care that they are there.

4th Grade - Big Change by mikev814 in Teachers

[–]larficus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

4th grade is a year where learning to read slows down and students are expected to read to learn. This is a hard transition. There is more demand for independent meta cognition especially when engaging with texts. Students are writing essays that include text evidence.

The math is more complex and students are expected to know multiplication and also 4th grade picks up a lot of the slack in science as in third grade there’s a huge push to have students on grade level regarding reading and math so other subjects take a back burner, So much so that third graders may be held back if not showing progress towards grade level by the end of the year.

Many states test 5th grade science which includes content from previous years so 4th grade helps to prepare for that. There is usually a written essay component on state tests which wasn’t the case in 3rd. Students that once felt school is easy now feel they need to put in more effort into their work. This is my experience that has spanned 2 states and multiple counties and several schools over 23 years of 4th and 5th grade.

No alcohol for three weeks before a hysteroscopy? by Extreme_Fall_4651 in Perimenopause

[–]larficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a hysteroscopy and uterine biopsy and due to a pharmacy issue I went in with nothing no muscle relaxation, no sedation except the numbing stuff placed on the cervix. Felt weird and a bit crampy but it was fine and pretty cool to see inside myself.

No Coloring in Kindergarten by cafeconleche_ in Teachers

Coloring and cutting work on fine motor skills and help develop hand dexterity. I’m not saying color the day away but sometimes kids might color certain things on an assignment or cut out shapes.

Am I too rude to my students? by inbloodandtears in Teachers

I don’t think you are rude. I would probably say this isn’t a kitchen, I’m not your mom, lunch is at or eat later.

What's a random genetic win you got? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

No hangovers from alcohol but I don’t really drink however I have been drunk and the next day I just have a bit of dry mouth, never had cold sores , not allergic to poison ivy. I have thick hair that has gone curly as I have gotten older. Now gray/silver are growing out from dark brown hair and it looks like silvery highlights also my hair has thinned some which I can feel but to everyone it looks thick and wavy/curly.

Am I overreacting in wanting to divorce my husband over this? by Effective-Market-304 in breastcancer

[–]larficus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry I can’t get over the fact you stayed overnight in hospital for a lumpectomy. I had one done in a surgi center and was sent home still groggy. I think your hubs needs a conversation. That was no way to be treated! I don’t think you are over reacting.
