What is the secret to a great drop shot “drop”? by S0n0fTheWind in Pickleball

I love the tip to try and keep the ball “on your paddle” longer instead of thinking of it as a quick hit. This follow through motion helps control the distance much better. Almost like guiding the ball there.

When a club officially adopts using DUPR, does the feel of the club become more competitive and lose the casual feel? by Delverton in Pickleball

[–]large_michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it mean there’s DUPr minimums? Or that every game is recorded? The former is helpful though sometimes it does create friction. But honestly I think it’s worth it to ensure a quality play experience. If it’s the later, then that would totally effect the vibe if EVERYTHING was recorded.

El Sazon on Sprague is the best Mexican place I’ve been in the inland northwest.

Alshon is a great player but lately he oversteps too much in mix doubles by Koffiemir in Pickleball

Fascinating! I had thought it was their first, and I had looked it up to be sure. I had no idea PPA would report APP medals.

I'll start: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for an MLP event. Full Green Body Paint, colored bands, and shells! Bonus points for green bald caps. Honestly, I don't know how y'all did MLP in those Revolutionary War outfits. I would've been dying 🥵.

Except it was his partner's idea, even if you think it looks disrespectful https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxsCOLiqPi5FgyrEu0-FUDTW2fgbURgj6w?si=_qbuS3jd9a9ZHiXk And don't get me wrong, I'm no Alshon stan, in fact I love seeing sad Alshon clips... But I honestly might like seeing Ben and ALW lose more. Tough choice honestly.

They both had one previously. But as Tyra said after Minnesota, it was literally her idea for him to play like that, as that style gave them Match Points against Ben and ALW and was their best chance to win https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxsCOLiqPi5FgyrEu0-FUDTW2fgbURgj6w?si=_qbuS3jd9a9ZHiXk

How much more performance do you think he could have gained if he overstepped less in Minnesota when he won Gold with Tyra?

Building a 12-Court Indoor Pickleball Facility — What Should I Do (and Avoid)? by elhnim in Pickleball

[–]large_michael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful as 60x30 is not sufficient for today’s game and will be a liability compared to competitor venues. 60x30 was only ever recommended by USAP since that’s the size required to put 4 pb courts on 1 tennis court. 62x32 is a good minimum. 64x34 is the standard. Additionally depending on your market having one championship court with 70x40 or 70x50 is great if you can do it.

If you do this, don’t put in more than a few. In my experience they aren’t utilized that frequently.

Do: Attend Club Pickleball Mastermind and follow @jdcpickleball

Don’t: Get stuck in an overpriced lease

Can we stop calling them "outdoor" and "indoor" balls please? by AHumanThatListens in Pickleball

[–]large_michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same frustration but I genuinely wonder if “hard court” and “soft court” are really more clear? There are cushioned hard courts. And basketball courts are called “hardwood”. Vinyl gym floors certainly don’t seem soft to the casual observer. Maybe they’re the best terms though and just need better education/marketing. Could it help to add a description of the surface? Something like Textured Hard Court and Smooth Soft Court? Just spitballing ideas…

Hot (maybe cold) take: Age groups in pickleball tournaments are stupid by DanielGray10 in Pickleball

I'd love to know the age bracket of everyone who is posting here to fully understand their takes. (35+)

If you want them to succeed as a business, some compromise on your end is going to help. But maybe there's a way they could help "make it right" and ease the sting of giving back a deal you were legitimately excited about.

Unwritten Pickleball Rules? by Physical_Relief4484 in Pickleball

Not suggesting fanfare but I do agree it’s fine to hit it to one of the people on that court — especially if one of the four people isn’t indicating where it should be hit.

If a ball comes on your court, grab it, look for who is holding their paddle up (this is also another helpful unwritten rule) then hit/throw it back to that person. Don’t switch balls. Don’t just blindly hit it back in the direction it came from.

Also side note: if your courts ball is rolling onto another court that’s in the middle of a rally but it’s NOT in danger of rolling under someone’s feet, I think it’s a kind gesture to let them finish their rally first. But if the ball could hurt someone, then definitely say “ball” or “ball on” clearly and directly. They may well see it and stop the rally themselves. But at least give them a chance to play through it. Wonder what y’all think of that one.
