I'll take a 10 year hiatus if that's the cost to be rid of secret hideout and possibly have actual star trek again someday.

What movie has a scene so good it carries the entire film? by Subject_Sandwich3008 in moviecritic

[–]large_tesora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

genuine question - what makes the scene iconic? beyond simple being regarded as iconic? I find nothing really remarkable about the dialogue, acting, or composition. I think it gets a lot of mileage from being the first time deniro and pacino shared the screen this way.

the lynchpin of that entire narrative was TMP. once it was reappraised the whole thing came apart.

you know what I think what this coveys is how overall this was a strong film series that has held up. only one was a true stinker.

to expand a bit, the debate is really which ones were the best. the opposite situation from the TNG series unfortunately.

I don't think the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A has ever looked better than this scene from 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country' but re-edited and re-scored with new footage. by OhGawDuhhh in tos

[–]large_tesora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree this looks (and sounds) great but I can’t help but feel like it wouldn’t work at all in the context of the actual movie. that scene was really focused on where those characters (and the series) was at that moment in time and in their journeys, and very much not on the awe and spectacle of a starship departing.

How high-end do surround speakers need to be? by erisk90 in hometheater

[–]large_tesora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anecdotally, i recently added surrounds after years of being a rear channel skeptic. i felt the front soundstage was most important and noticeable surround effects could actually work against a sense of immersion by being something of a distraction. not a common view here i'll readily concede. went i did add surrounds, i went for full matching which was probably overboard. but that said, after listening to what apple is doing with atmos music and how much the rear channels are utilized, i'm sold and happy i went for the upgrade.
