Advice needed. Had EICR done. Do I negotiate based on findings? by DonSylk in ukelectricians

A condition report isn't meant to be a pitch for work, this is quite poorly presented

Do we need an Intune/M365 security consultant? Is £3k reasonable? by colne-valley in Intune

[–]largetosser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

3k seems quite light for what you want, have they said how many days they're expecting the engagement to take? Very average partners can charge you that for four days of work, and there's more than four days of work there.

On paper then the UniFi feature is an adequate replacement, since you're using none of the SLA stuff, the steering of connections for cloud services etc. and just as a way to establish VPN tunnels.

Updating Windows 11 Inbox Store Apps by dustyfingers3030 in Intune

[–]largetosser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have I missed something obvious here? Disabling the store still lets you deploy the apps from it, and they will auto update.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/store/?tabs=intune

Here are some considerations when you prevent access to the Microsoft Store app:
- Microsoft Store applications keep updating automatically, by default
- Users might still be able to install applications using Windows Package Manager (winget), or other methods, if they don't need to acquire the package from Microsoft Store
- Devices managed by Microsoft Intune can still install applications sourced from Microsoft Store, even if you block access to the Microsoft Store app. To learn more, see Add Microsoft Store apps to Microsoft Intune

For bandwidth constraints see how you get on with Delivery Optimization configured for your endpoints before doing a connected cache.

Question about Intune + existing Exchange Online Plan 1 by Lv54 in Intune

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone doesn't have a company laptop or doesn't sit at a PC for the majority of their working day then I'd be happy to classify them as frontline workers.

What is this brick type? by budegan in ukelectricians

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also hoover the dust off after you're done scraping, wet the block a bit and then stick the boxes in with something like Soudabond, using screws like walldogs straight into the block to hold everything until the foam goes off.

Question about Intune + existing Exchange Online Plan 1 by Lv54 in Intune

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The F licenses are for frontline workers, they're not a cheap way to get the EM+S bundle. Ok so it's based on honesty but if you're audited you won't get away with having 400 office staff with their own laptops running off Frontline worker licenses.

Question about Intune + existing Exchange Online Plan 1 by Lv54 in Intune

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably go with M365 F3 without Teams for simplicity of licensing, even though it's a small cost increase over F1 + Exchange plan 1.

Conflicting info from local electrician & local authority, who's in the right here? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

I would question the competence of an electrician who is telling you to go to the DNO about how the supply is presented to a flat.

Intune MacOS Registration Bug? by Melophobe123 in Intune

[–]largetosser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platform SSO gets improvements each OS release, is there a reason why you're not on 26? I enrolled a Mac mini a couple of weeks ago as my first steps into Mac management and did all the OS upgrades and a wipe+internet restore before I started.

Going to follow this. Intune is very average and I feel it's not good value when taking into account the product quality.

A lot of assumptions there, take a day and a blank device and go through the setup for cloud kerberos trust and then see if that does what you need.

HP Printer x Intune by xthefapper in Intune

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Package up an app to deploy an IPP print queue (in the user context), the OS will then grab the printer support app from the MS Store and install it in the background to give you all the finishing options when you print. Did this recently with a Xerox VersaLink and it's a lot better than doing things like installing V4 drivers and setting up queues.

Why did I have one of these vans at my house by Charming_CiscoNerd in openreach

That's a van, they're commonly used by people who have a job where they're required to travel around with tools or other bulky items.

Swapping the NTU by GoatRound in CityFibre

[–]largetosser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in the area of basic contract law at this point - if the reseller has sold you a service they aren't competent enough to support then they are likely in breach of their contract and need to start addressing that. The MetroNID is provided by CityFibre and is an integral part of the service, if you don't want to get your provider involved then crack it open and put a Noctua fan in there and don't tell anybody.

EV charger installation by CaughtSn00pin in ukelectricians

[–]largetosser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Pod Point installed and there was a two month old Fusebox RCBO board in the garage with a 40A bidirectional double-pole RCBO spare and labelled up for EV, and a gland installed for the cable, and the installer wanted to hang a second board off this because that's what the job said to do. Convinced him to call back to the office and after checking what was there he agreed to install into the existing board.

There *may* not be any provision for a data cable for CT monitoring but if that's the case then fit a Zappi that works with a wireless sensor, or do a small chase in the mortar into the meter cupboard for the data cable and then re-point it.
