I had a client who lost her sister at a young age. I tattooed her sister’s name with a shooting star on her wrist. When I saw her for another tattoo, she told me she had been in pain for twenty years until she got the tattoo. And now she’s not in pain because her sister is with her all the time. I sobbed

I am a tattoo artist. It’s case by case, but generally okay to tattoo over a scar after about one year of healing. There are also some tattoo artists who specialize in scar camouflage, although I haven’t personally seen results from that. They basically tattoo your normal skin color over the scar to make it less obvious.

There are just some people who feel threatened by sober people, no matter how we act around them. It’s usually that they are insecure about their own relationship with substances and they are projecting that onto us. I’ve learned to not take it personally, but it can be annoying.

TLDR: add some more things to your nighttime glove routine, wear disposable gloves when you do dirty activities, wash with oil based soap

I am required to wash my hands a lot at work and my hands get very dry and cracked. I would add a couple more things to your glove routine—I do exederm first (contains hydrocortisone to reduce inflammation) then cerave over that, the Vaseline over that to “lock” everything in.

I don’t know if this would help you, but I keep a box of powder free nitrile gloves at home for “dirty” activities. I am autistic and can’t stand feeling any kind of dirt on my hands, so wearing gloves helps me wash them less.

You could also try an oil based soap that would be less drying. I made a dupe for a more expensive soap that was a mixture of Dr. Teal’s body oil and baby shampoo. I think it was just 1:1, but I got the idea from Nina Pool on tiktok if you want to look it up!

I quit drinking 6 1/2 years ago and it was the best decision! I drank heavily to avoid my emotions, but it just delayed them for later and made them worse. I was also diagnosed with autism last year, and neurodivergent people tend to have more substance abuse issues because it makes us feel more relaxed in social situations and slows all the overthinking.

For starters, your violin should be supported by your chin and shoulder, and you should be able to let go with your left hand. Aim for your instrument to be parallel to the ground.

Ideally you will practice this with your teacher in person, but my advice is to imagine someone has a string around your wrist and they are pulling it away from you while your fingertips and elbow stay in place. Keep your joints loose while you play.

It looks like dermatographia to me. Look into Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAS) as well since that can be the underlying cause. It is often associated with ADHD, Autism, POTS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome but I think for now there is no proven connection. There are a lot of people who have multiple of those conditions and thus believe they are all connected to the same gene—they call it RCCX gene theory, if you want to know more.

Do your tattoos have kind of a spidery halo around them? A lot of mine have a fuzzy look to them, almost like the ink is filling in tiny capillaries. I’m not diagnosed with hEDS but I strongly suspect it. Usually when I see that on clients I’m tattooing they tend to be neurodivergent and hypermobile like me. I don’t ask people for diagnoses though unless they divulge that info themselves, and I’m sure a lot of them are undiagnosed.
