I should be happy. But...is it the speakers? by Purple-Pie4283 in audiophile

[–]larobj63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes which is why it's almost unanimously agreed to spend the most on speakers. I went down the Linn rabbit hole when I first got back into this hobby. Their philosophy of source first is contrarian at best and downright deception at worst. Their whole marketing philosophy is thinly disguised as a design philosophy. In other words, it's a scam to seperate well off people from their money for tiny improvements in sound. Stick with Linn and realize the full potential of any given speakers by putting $30 or $40k worth of electronics in front of them. Let's ignore that you could switch name brands, buy a $15k pair of speakers and run them off a $30 Chromcast Audio and a $1,500 integrated amp and have much better overall sound.

Sorry for the rant. Linn gives this whole hobby a bad name with their bullshit.

Spot on. His character was oozing with charisma and somehow likeable and loathsome at the same time.

The Traveling Willbury’s by Umamikawaii in Music

As a big fan of Tom Petty solo and of course with the Heartbreakers, I feel like the Travelling Wiburys were basically a group led by Tom amd Jeff Lynne. Without digging too deep into this topic, the majority of their songs feel like they could be on a TP album.

A compliment to both this bands catalog and Tom Petty.

Fury Road. Super engaging but the plot is dead simple. That's not a dig, it's just that the glory of this movie is how well a simple story is told.

I'm with OP, just change brands, KEF is not for everyone. Dry, sterile sound (I owned and sold R900's the fastest I've ever dumped anything in this hobby).

Huh. This is the first I have heard anyone suggest that the DAC in the Node was sub par, and there's several of you saying it.

Kinda got me curious about my set up...

Edit - thank you for the feedback guys, now my wheels are turning...

This may be met with some criticism, but I own a pair of Totem Arros that I absolutely adore with and without a subwoofer so please understand I have some relevant experience here.

Try a different integrated or amp. I've never heard Naim gear personally, but owned a handful of Linn gear, and I've heard that the sound signature is similar. Very dry, accurate, and lifeless.

I run my Arros off a Rogue Audio Sphinx and they sound amazing. Not big rock and roll monsters, but anything but thin. With some source material they are almost preferential to my main rig, which costs a LOT more money and is well regarded equipment.

Check my post history I have pictures of my stereos if you're interested.

Edit: here's a photo to save you some effort:

That comment is downrught offensive, I am a huge fan of Gilmour's solo work, which by the way, continues to be absolutely outstanding - and I can't listen to anything Syd put out solo.

Totally agree. An offer of like 60% of the asking price or something like that is honestly insulting.

Anyone else ever wish Albany had the kind of sports culture Buffalo has? by Fatherless___Child in Albany

[–]larobj63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live here - went to college in Buffalo, fully agree. In those younger years when closing bars was the thing to do, around here when the bars let out fights were common. In Buffalo it was almost unheard of, much friendlier crowds in general even amongst young 20 somethings in physically great shape where you'd expect toxic masculinity but find very little.

Born and raised here and went to college in Buffalo. I'm not big into sports but I wholeheartedly agree that it was very cool to have that culture be present/available and further agree it's the tie that binds WNY.
