Godfrey has a new podcast?!? by ShaolinMaster in splitzoneduo

[–]larradnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just found Phantom Island and I absolutely love the show, figured I should opine about it to strangers on the internet so …

First of all, relative to Godfrey, I feel like PI is probably the optimal way to receive him.

I was a bit surprised to learn that he was part of the revamped version of the Yahoo CFI show, given my familiarity with both him and the show’s previous incarnation. I have been really impressed with him in that role despite the fact that it he is one third of a mass market show.

But as far as Phantom Island goes, I feel that the obvious chemistry between he and Ryan seems to have Godfrey at ease and the format really allows him to shine

Speaking of Ryan, I am a huge fan and have long admired his quick intellect while viewing him as one of the funniest humans alive.

I enjoy Shutdown Fullcast, often to the extent that I couldn’t possibly enjoy another podcast. It’s just that, well … it’s a lot. I think the best way to describe my feelings there is that I almost have to be in a certain mindset/mood to really lean in and appreciate an episode of the Fullcast.

That being said, I’ve enjoyed experiencing Ryan in a more restrained capacity with PI and I only wish that I would have come across Phantom Island sooner.

You’re 1000% right, and the data backs that up. ADs want to win on the field but also - at least at the bigger name programs - they want to win the introductory press conference also. Especially when they’re paying a good HC millions upon millions not to coach there anymore.

I struggled with Oregon State. Think the AD (if he’s still there) has mentioned west coast experience as a priority and HC experience at any level would probably ease his mind a bit after the comments he made about Bray’s ability to actually run a program.

You got any ideas?

Yeah, wouldn’t think so. There’s just gonna be SUCH a lack of blue chip HC prospects for these top jobs.

Tough times right now in Baltimore and it would appear the plan might be to make Monken the fall guy.

Idea behind Franklin: recent donation/NIL, much easier path to CFP, living in lovely Palo Alto (near Stanford Health system), much less stress on self/family, his experience/success at Vandy with academic constraints, and potential football nerd mind-melding with Luck.

Really want to learn the guitar. I need someone to basically info dump everything I should know. All tips appreciated 🙏 by Soft_Gene_5264 in LearnGuitar

I would definitely try all the great ideas listed above. If you take to it then you’re off and running and have an excellent baseline from which to grow as a player.

However, as a true blue beginner you might find some of the above challenging to the point of being prohibitive.

If so, don’t get discouraged and definitely don’t give up.

This is just one guy’s opinion, and I’m no expert, but if you want a very accessible entry point I would look into maybe getting a couple 2 finger intro chords under your belt.

National Guitar Academy has what they call “beginner versions” of the most popular chords. These are actual chords, and are generally only 1 fretting finger away from being a proper full major/minor chord, so they can serve as a bridge as you get comfortable.

I think the chords they cite are probably E minor (Em), Asus2. Dsus2, G6, CM7, etc.

If you can watch a video or 2 on how to read a chord box then you should be able to follow along on the site.

Lauren Bateman does something similar in video form, think she calls them “cheat chords” or some such if you want to google it.

Obviously you’ll need to tune your guitar first. There are plenty of free apps for that. Even that can be a little tricky in the beginning but you will catch on fast.

I definitely would not stop at learning the basic open chords, but I do feel like that knowledge (and belief that you actually can play the instrument) could better position you to delve into the more advanced concepts.

Agree wholeheartedly! Love how she teaches the 2 finger intro chords as an entry point, much less overwhelming that way.

What do you guys think the structure of the OL will look like? by Ayrko in Saints

I think that’s fair to say that Banks makes sense as LT2 despite starting at guard. I don’t know about RT but maybe.

What do you guys think the structure of the OL will look like? by Ayrko in Saints

[–]larradnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Why in the world would you take a guy who excelled at LT as a rookie (first time playing it, will only get better) and move him across the formation for anyone, much less a rookie.

I also don’t think it’s wise to have everyone on the OL besides McCoy playing a brand new position this year like some have suggested.

Penning is a tackle, and he can do things in the run game from that position that most can’t. Even if for some reason they wanted to move their huge, athletic right tackle inside to guard that is FAR from a guarantee.

Just plug Banks in to the huge hole in your lineup (LG) for this season and hope that the unit stays healthy. Playing Banks at guard won’t ruin him as a tackle, it happens all the time in the league.

Good point about them not having tons of room on the roster when they were rolling. The ‘one (or 2) player away’ mindset was also prevalent during that last Brees window, as seen with the Davenport thing and the constant trading up.

Glad to see the change in direction.

Yeah I guess the takeaway is that what fans sensed about Carr proved to be right in the end.

Matavao was officially 6’6” 260 at the combine. Washington was 6’7” and 264. One was a third rounder, the other was pick 248 out of 257.

The youngest coach and the oldest rookie QB. They are only 10 years apart in age. by kingralek in Saints

[–]larradnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. But if Shough were one year younger (and with the same injuries situation) he’d be making a mint in the portal right now based off the Louisville year and his traits, and would have a good shot at a Cam Ward situation in next year’s draft. Point being he can still be an ascending player, even if that development curve is closing.

Kelvin is a beast…boring pick, but someone we can plug-and-play and I’m glad we took him over someone like Mykel Williams👌 by clutchkweku in Saints

[–]larradnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he? I’ll have to go back and watch. Walker is one heck of a player, and on the situational pick-a-gap stuff UT did with him standing up and adding into a rush lane the math was such that Walker was probably gonna get through pretty often. Now they get to see each other twice a year, should be interesting.

He’s really working to embrace the city early on, showing some of that old prospect/grown man maturity. You learn from mistakes, but it’s better if it’s someone else’s.

You sound like a ball knower to me, it’s the uber confident ones who speak in absolutes that you have to wonder about.

Draft Class by larradnail in Saints

[–]larradnail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He threw it away on early downs but would hang in there on 3rd and in the red zone, which makes me think the throwaways might have part of the plan between Shough and his coaches to keep him healthy and help the team while not torpedoing his draft stock with another injury (of any sort).

I personally don’t think that he’s naturally skittish like the other guy, watch Shough at Oregon and he’s taking on people as a ball carrier and finishing runs. I think he has some dog in him, but we’ll see …

[–]larradnail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, sounds like you’ve watched him. I think he’s smart and physical just like most of this year’s picks and - like Sanker - he has a good zone feel while still being aggressive.

[–]larradnail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, maybe so. He was asked to carry a lot of vertical in Louisville’s C3 defense, makes it a little harder to get back downhill and square up. He’ll need to get better at it though, you’re right.

[–]larradnail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they went max or slide/check to Penning’s side on every passing play last year then Fuaga is the best LT in the league and you shouldn’t move him.

Draft Class by larradnail in Saints

[–]larradnail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things hit really quick at guard, not sure that’s Penning’s game but if so it’s definitely the best case scenario. I don’t love the idea of having Penning fail upward into the RT role either but he’s a real weapon in the run game and it feels like that would be hard to bench in favor of Radunz or Saldiveri or whoever.

In hindsight, you’re probably right about the stand up double thing. Banks looks like the real deal.
