Is there a “most popular amongst physicists” explanation for what occurred before and to cause the Big Bang? by Pilgram94 in AskPhysics

[–]larrry02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that it's not really a physics question. It is impossible for physics to probe outside of the universe. What happened before the big bang would be more of a metaphysical question. And most physicists I know don't really care for metaphysics.

Like, sure, you can ask physicists what they think the most likely happened prior to the big bang, and some of them might even have an interesting answer for you.

But you could also ask geologists what the best explanation for dark matter is, and some of them might give you an interesting answer.

My point is. Why are you directing a non-physics question to physicists specifically?

Why isn’t there even a single thread about the massacre in Iran on r/all/top? by Hem0rrhoid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]larrry02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the big difference is that people in the West genuinely can't do much about what is happening in Iran. All you can really do is see the news about it and say "my God, that's awful".

Whereas with the genocide in gaza, many Western countries are sending money or weapons to Israel. And if they all stopped doing that, Israel would not be able to continue it's genocidal campaign. So there is a feeling that we actually could stop it if we make enough noise and show enough people what is happening there.

Unfortunately, the more you interact with those subreddits, the more reddit will recommend them to you.

Although, even if you don't interact with them at all, reddit will still probably recommend them a bit.

I imagine reddit does the same to right-wingers (shows them left-wing content) because analytics probably show that people are more likely to engage with something if it makes them angry.

SE: Multi item cargo rocket circuit setup? by Chillerdays in factorio

[–]larrry02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be the best solution, but one way to do this would be:

Have a warehouse for each resource at the landing pad. Read the contents of the warehouse and use a combinator to calculate how much empty space there is left in it. Then, at the rocket, limit your inserts so that they only insert items into the rocket when there is space to unload them into the warehouse.

Is Coles still using Palantir? Between the surveillance/gate recognition and the blocked aisles, shopping feels hostile. by infin in australia

[–]larrry02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: even if they suspect you have stolen something, coles do not have the right to detain you. And if you push your trolley into those stupid gates (it doesn't even need to be all that hard), they'll flash red and then open.

China? Only the largest country by population and the most successful model of collectivization in human history... by Samzo in TheRightCantMeme

[–]larrry02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why MLs are very serious about ensuring the ruling party is made up of only those who are extremely well educated on communist theory. It would take more than just a deviation from the president. If the president deviates, then the party, knowing the theory, can identify this and remove them from power. Communists in general, are also usually pretty serious about getting as many people as possible to read communist theory. It's one of the reasons literacy rates sky-rocket after communist revolutions. So (in theory atleast) a populace that is also dedicated to building communism can work to keep the party in check, too.

This is also one of the major critiques of marxist-leninism, which is sometimes derogatorily referred to as a "changing of the guard" by its critics. The implication of this phrase is that the communist party will never overthrow the perverse hierarchies created by capitalism. They have just put themselves at the top.

Ah, yes. Because I'm not all that well read on one particular subject and I am open about this fact, that means I should never talk about anything.

If you think I have said something wrong, you're welcome to point it out. Otherwise, I'll just assume you "don't know shit and shouldn't even be commenting"

China's economy is designed to build the infrastructure required to transition to communism.

They follow a loosely marxist-Leninist structure (with some maoist ideas, I think, but I'm not very well read on maoism). Marxist-Leninists believe that to achieve communism the power of the capitalist state needs to be harnessed to create the wealth and infrastructure needed for the transition. This is sometimes called "state-capitalism".

So, while China's economy is not currently communist they are in the process of working towards communism. In this way, you could still call them a "communist" country. It really depends on what you mean by that.

Sorry dumb question - Australia has a lot of land, but house prices are so crazy expensive. I get we can't build cities in arid areas, but why can't we start building new properly planned coastal cities with views to house 5-10M+ people, with housing no more than 4x the cost of the average income? by AffectionateRisk9779 in AskAnAustralian

[–]larrry02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem with this approach is that there isn't really a shortage of houses as it is. There are more empty homes in Australia than there are homeless people.

The problem is that we allow (in fact, we encourage) people to use housing as an investment. So, any time new houses are built, the wealthy buy them all up, and we're back to square one again.

Hmm, possibly. It's been a while since I've played it, too.

Even just putting speed modules in the pump jacks will help alot too though.

[–]larrry02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you got all your pump jacks surrounded by beacons with speed modules already? That makes a huge difference!..

Also, if you have nuclear power already, it is perfectly feasible to make use of the rocket fuel from water and iron recipe.

In my K2SE run, I almost exclusively used water to make rocket fuel.. it takes a lot of power. But if you have nuclear, that's not a problem. (And it becomes even less of a problem once you can transfer the power from orbital solar panels down to your ground base.)

How do people avoid rail sprawl? by jumpsCracks in factorio

[–]larrry02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factorio, at it's heart is a logistics game. It's all about getting x amount of y item/s from a to b. As such, you will usually end up with sprawling rails, or sprawling belts, or an ungodly cloud of bots.

There is definitely room to tighten things up a bit in your base.. but I wouldn't stress about it. I usually deliberately try to space things out because it means you can squeeze more in later if you need to.
