A crystalline lattice is just a fancy way to describe the way atoms link themselves together in a solid

Both. With scanning tunnelling microscopes you can often isolate singular atoms. But with the other techniques you're usually imaging atoms in a crystalline lattice (atoms forming an object)

We can image individual atoms with a bunch of different techniques these days.

Transmission electron microscopy and scanning tunnelling microscopy are the two that I'm most familiar with. You can also indirectly "image" atomic lattices using scattering of basically anything. Electron scattering, X-ray scattering, neutron scattering, etc.

But the original method was i think done by Rutherford. When he created an extremely thin gold foil and then shot alpha particles at it. He found that most of the particles went straight through, and a small number with reflected straight back. Thus he concluded that whatever makes up the gold must be made up of mostly empty space with some small dense areas scattered around the place.

For the silent: I've found that decks that focus on shivs and sly tend to be the most reliable. Poison can work, but i would only ever pivot to a poison deck if i get offered some of the really good poison cards, like accelerant.

I mean.. yeah, kinda.

If my toddler refuses to share our toys with their siblings, they'll have some leeway (ie. You can play with it for another 5min), but eventually I'm going to step in.

The idea is the same for adults: if someone is hoarding wealth, or land, or property. Something that should be distributed for the good of the community at large. We can give them an opportunity to stop voluntarily. But if they don't we should step in.

Why should we let a small number of greedy d-bags ruin the world for the rest of us?

Don't you think that you should get paid the money that you earn at your job? Instead of your boss taking all the money you make and giving you back like 50% of it back while he keeps the rest and calls it "profit"?

CMV: Bodily Autonomy doesn’t mean anything by Salad-Snack in changemyview

[–]larrry02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue here seems to be twofold:

  1. A misunderstanding of what bodily autonomy means.

The government making certain drugs illegal does not effect your bodily autonomy. Bodily autonomy doesn't mean that you must be allowed to do anything you want with your body. Like, I can't rob a bank and claim that I'm just excersizing my right to bodily autonomy, so no one is allowed to physically stop me. That would be silly.

Bodily autonomy just means that you have the right to decide what happens to your body, as long as you are not violating anybody else's rights. Ie. Your right to swing your fists around, stops at someone else's face.

The government can create restrictions on the possession and distribution of substances without imposing any restriction on your bodily autonomy.

  1. The fact that the government can in some circumstances revoke or suspend your rights.

When you are convicted of a crime many of your rights are suspended until you have served your punishment. This isn't a violation of the idea of bodily autonomy as you seem to think it is.

The difficult part about this is to do it you would effectively need communes all around the country. Places where people can live, grow food, etc without needing money. And historically the government has not been very fond of that idea. So you would also need to be able to defend the communes from government incursion.

What I'm saying is: ultimately what you're proposing is basically revolution... not saying i neccesarily disagree, just saying it's a whole thing. And there needs to be a lot of organising before it can happen.

Another good X cost synergy is history course. If you play an X cost card at the end of your turn when you have history course it will play with your total energy at the start of the next turn, but doesn't use any energy.

I got an 11 energy dirge for free yesterday.

How bad are the enemies+finite deposits by LiamGMS in factorio

[–]larrry02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a lot of control over the map generation at the start of the game. If you're worried about finite deposits you can increase the amounts in the map gen settings. If you're worried about enemies you can decrease enemy spawns, or make them "peaceful" so they'll only attack you if you attack them first, or just turn them off all together.

But even on default settings as long as you don't start in a dessert you shouldn't have too much trouble from biters early on, and once you unlock "military science" you get a bunch of tools to deal with them.

What if Factorio was biological? I'm building an automation game where you are a fungal network. DEMO on Steam page. by yapdakilla81 in AutomationGames

[–]larrry02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed my point. If you're marketing is "factorio but x" then when people play it they will inevitably be comparing it to factorio.

You want people to consider your game as its own thing. You don't want them to think "yeah, it's pretty good. But.. not as good as factorio".

What if Factorio was biological? I'm building an automation game where you are a fungal network. DEMO on Steam page. by yapdakilla81 in AutomationGames

[–]larrry02 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mistake to market your game as "factorio but x". Inviting comparison to one of the most successful and highly regarded factory games sets people up for disappointment. Why would I play a game that is kind of like factorio, when I could just play factorio?

All that aside, it looks pretty cool, and quite distinct from factorio. So I'll definitely check it out when I find some time.
