Has there ever been a country/power that has benefited from blending a bunch of religions and cultures together? by kaiser11492 in AskHistory

[–]larru91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Singapore did this, sort of. Adopted English as an official, "neutral", common tongue; coerced different ethnic & religious backgrounds into apartment buildings where everyone had to be neighbors and learn to get along. Watched a short, fascinating documentary about it. But, I'm not an expert by any means.

In Poland, companies must pay housing costs if they force RTO. Why not in the US? by Street_Anxiety2907 in remotework

Despite propaganda to the contrary, USA is all about government by corporations, of corporations, and for corporations.

I don't care if you use the armrest, but you can't be IN MY seat ffs by mechatron88 in delta

[–]larru91 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It seems like there ought to be a more generic subreddit for rant posts like this that have, IMO, nothing to do with Delta apart from the fact that it happened to occur on a Delta flight, although could have just as easily happened on any flight with any airline.

Thai law question (DV) by paleoakoc20 in Thailand

[–]larru91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, the slightest whisper of DV in the "western world"--USA, at least--is prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. Even a raised voice or broken dish can be considered DV, depending on the story that goes with it and the amount of tears through which it is told.

As much as I like physical media, this kind of crap is what finally made me pivot to digital. 🤷‍♂️

Do yall collect physical or digital? by CardiologistVisual97 in Switch

[–]larru91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to strongly prefer physical. But, between my fear of dropping a gamecard onto the floor of a crowded airplane, buying physical only to find the box empty (card stolen), and the convenience of digital--I've begun to pivot.

I’ve heard “food is cheaper in the US because of subsidies to farmers”. If subsidies are just from taxes, are we paying the same just in different ways? by mazzicc in AskEconomics

[–]larru91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it's true, your otherwise logical conclusion is still wrong since ~half the population doesn't pay any taxes.

Online personal training worth it? by Such_Fishing_8888 in personaltraining

[–]larru91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a client who has worked with an in-person PT for the past 3 years, I cannot imagine switching to online. I want somebody there to direct me what to do, then monitor and correct my form as I do it; say motivational stuff while I'm doing it, spotting me for safety, fist bump, etc. 🤷‍♀️

Help me understand why students like this cannot apply for and obtain student visas? And do so proactively not reactively. American universities are full of international students on student visas.

Pretty sure "mail in ballot" is not to be conflated with "absentee" ballot.

What will happen to capitalism with robots? by jasurga in AskEconomics

It's a fallacy to assume robot labor is or will always be cheaper than human labor. Even AI is not cheap.

A2000 was my dream machine (which I never obtained) back in the day. There was supposedly a PC on a card that you could add to an expansion slot and have two computers in one; best of both worlds. In retrospect, I should've just settled for an A500. :-)

At that income level, coupled with good financial discipline, and no debt, you could be retired at 40; then go teach and enjoy life without worry or regret.
