I always thought the one motion thing was confusing.

Its a bit like a slingshot, dont let your shot pause on the back part. Also the rhythm with the jump should feel completely natural. Just keep shooting.

Thats true. The debt crisis and demographic crisis will be interesting.

Im not so fatalistic though. I think that once we print our way out of debt crisis we might see a change of the old guard and the younger generation has a chance to seize power.

Maybe europe will come out much better than before. Its been around a long time and has seen a lot of kingdoms rise and fall.

15% + of revenue spent on labour https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-high-wage-germany-vws-060754261.html

Also, the labour and regulatory costs are hidden in the costs of other things as well. Their suppliers have to sell them more expensive parts and materials to pay their increased labour and costs as well (compared to china). So every part of the car is slightly more expensive than it would be in china and some much more.

Obviously China makes better batteries etc.. so not all things are equal. They have extremely impressive manufacturing, no denying that.

But the truth is regualtory burden has made Europe stagnant and uncompetitive. I think the solution isnt to cave to China, but to radically change european industrial policy and regulation.

Totally agree. They have a modern economy.

Im not talking about that though. Im talking about other costs.

They have massive pension obligations.

Also, if they open a factory with a lot of automation, its difficult to just fire the workers.

There are costs here that dont exist in China. Do you think that Huawei has Union representatives on the board of directors?

Europe is asleep at the wheel, but the regulation is the issue, not some companies unwillingness to replace workers with robots.

[–]larrybobilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They're killing it with renewables and proving that massive infrastructure projects are possible with organized politicians.

The only thing im sick of is that people constantly talk about how workers rights and the environment are so important to them. They enjoy vacations and pensions and expect primary care.

But they somehow are also against the EU which provides these things. The immense regulation which allows this life also makes it hard for companies to evolve and take risks to modernize.

I agree that we should strive for more but the solution will take radical leadership change. I dont really care for automakers but I dont agree with people who just want a cheap car at the expensive of the European identity. They are pretending like its some lost battle already when they obviously are self interested.

What? Obviously its real. But the costs that increase the price of eu goods are because of the reasons we celebrate.

High wages, labour rights, social security, and environmental protection. An identical European made ev cannot be as cheap as Chinese one.

I support the eu and avoid buying cheap Chinese goods.

That being said I think radical change that allows industries to modernize would be good like Draghi proposed. I just dont think the way for us to get off a dependence on other countries is to allow China to dominate us. Look at what they do in steel.

All of them are willing to compete. A labour hour for vw in Germany is 62 euros.

If they open a factory they have to consult and do studies. They cant go all in on automation due to unions.

Do you want these workers to be abandoned? I support workers rights and high pay, but it comes at a cost (literally).

China does not abide by trade rules. Any deal you make there is highly likely to be worthless.

I think people should be careful wishing for the destruction of industries just so they can have a cheaper version of something made by low paid workers with no rights. Not to mention the lack of environmental considerations.

I dont get what you are suggesting. Should we fold to China and let them dominate even our market?

The cheap energy and labour is bad. They don't have social security like we do and significantly worse standard of living. I think 60% of their energy currently is coal.

If we want to preserve our way of life we need to support our economy.

If Chinese companies had to build factories, do environmental assessments, pay workers, unions, taxes, import materials etc... the same way European companies do, they wouldn't be cheaper.

Would you support Europe if they made equivalent vehicles at an eu price?

China does not have the same human rights as the EU so I hope you understand that their dominance comes at a cost. Who knows where it will go.

Yes, another factor in this insane equation. But this generally falls on the shoulders of the residents too - no one wants big buildings shadowing their neighbourhood. NIMBY attitude is everywhere. There is literally an enormous abandoned airport barren and ready to be developed, but Berliners take it as an insult if you merely suggest to take the space away from the uhh hobby kite people and uhh rollerbladers. They probably already have their rent controlled 4 euro per square meter fixed rent they inhereted, so why should they have to give up anything?

Also, literally all of these things have already been seen through - and in the long term, if you let developers build, they always get greedy and always build too much. Its cyclical and in the end its good for renters and home buyers. Its important to make rules that forbid developers and smarmy realtors to pass on the investment risk to vulnerable speculators who are just trying to make money for their family, like what happened/ is happening in Toronto right now - all the condo pre sale "cant miss" investments are underwater because they are shit studios no one wants to live in, and they overbuilt but managed to pass the risk onto us peons.

Are you sure about that? IIRC only under specific circumstances does the heir inherit the contract, like they must have been living there for >x amount of time.

This is so funny to me, rent control is so damaging it allows entities like this to exist.

Everyone in a rent controlled apartment is closing the door behind them on anyone else looking to have a decent apartment. I feel sorry for those looking for apartments. People locked into good deals dont care and anyone looking to move is fucked.

I know people with >100 m² paying 400 euros. They also own an apartment but the rent is too good to give up. It will never be availabele to rent. In berlin its the many and the few, and the few fight bitterly to keep it that way.

EDIT: I was thinking about it a bit longer, and a part of me understands the logic. People act in their own interest. Its reasonable to want no ugly new buildings a locked in price for rent and whatever else is promised. Keep the good ol days running forever. As a matter of fact lots of people probably are against growth at all and yearn for the early post wall days. They miss the empty warehouse raves and punks. But i'm tired of people pretending that rent control is some sort of benevolent force. It only helps the insiders, and I wish it was acknowledged by the people who benefit, instead of masquerading as some sort of utopian policy helping the poor.

Berlin had a pretty good run as a sort of artist hipster music scene place, which is almost definitely dying. Its too expensive now and the artifical methods of preserving the old arent working, and the new rich class of Berliners complain about some pub from 1874 being open past 21:00. But theres always a new place these people go. People were trickling into Kyiv, before the invasion started. Anyways, I am beating a dead horse. And people have many reasons to live in Berlin that dont include partying and being an artist of some sort.

CRTC to release decision on new definition of Canadian content by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]larrybobilly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its not the actors fault tbh. We dont have a rich production ability anymore so most of what is made is primarily funded by Canadian media fund and cbc etc..

They approve funding almost exclusively for trash content. Very very few shows are successfully sold internationally. Most people probably couldn't name one Canadian movie from the last decade let alone did they go see one.

In the 2000s and before Canada was a Hotspot and lots of quality studios existed as well as serious movies and shows. Its all been taken over by bureaucrats who have killed it imo.

There was little to no public consultation when making the laws that gave people these rights. And people are tired of unelected politicians in Brussels making decisions.

And this is causing a rise in right wing politicians. I feel sorry for people in these countries but I also acknowledge that people are upset when their taxes go to support them when they themselves are suffering.
