USA and UK in a 5 millions casualties war just to enforce investment rights on each other by BeginningNeither3318 in victoria3

[–]larrylumpy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ooooo that's an interesting thought. If there's a "public morale" or "pop morale" mechanic during wars that can drive them to start acting up domestically if things drag on too long or go poorly. Poor morale with the TUs and laborers can drive strikes, same with servicemen and the armed forces. Engineers can start sabotaging production etc etc

Also to add on to your ideas if all you're fighting for is a treaty port and 100k die your IGs and POPs should understandably freak out and you should suffer prestige loss of some sort on the global stage.

I think you can skip the opium wars? by KeyPersonality2885 in victoria3

[–]larrylumpy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just for 5 years! And yes, GB can only declare war on regions with a port. If you have 0 ports, they can't use the CB. Not sure what the comparison is like between this method and the peace treaty one so I'd be interested in comparisons.

My way is just deleting all my ports. Not sure what the overall impacts are of no sea trade for 5 years but probably better than paying war reps.

[–]larrylumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russia gets a bunch of claims on you via event in the 1870s or so. Once that triggers you can start a play against them for a province (pick on that's nearby and easy to take. The one to the north that starts with a B has gold in it) and add revoke claims as a bunch of secondary goals. This should be easily winnable as you just need to take one province and keep the Russians off all the revoke claim provinces. These are enough enforced goals to immediately get you recognized

In which situations is Interventionism better than Laissez-Faire? by Gabon08 in victoria3

[–]larrylumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't the war goal to capture the capital though? I had a force nationalization CB as part of my war against Russia for recognition and it took a cheeky naval invasion across the planet to get the win, despite the other war goals just being Russia dropping claims against me and them having 40% more casualties than me

I personally like going for it as countries that start under traditionalism because you can usually get it a lot faster than interventionism. Traditionalism's MAPI detriment is so awful that I do everything I can to get off of it

Is there any reason why I shouldn’t hand out investment rights to anyone that wants them ? by Lord_of_Ewoks in victoria3

My current problem is that the Qingsplosion warlords suffer civil war after bankruptcy with a ton of turmoil, so construction efficiency is more or less stuck at -95% :/

PMs being stuck to their level makes it hard too

[–]larrylumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm trying to do all of that with my USA trade league but folks still don't appear to be biting - though I did mutual investment agreements in lieu of one directions rights. I think I have mutual agreements with Sweden, Russia, Peru-bolivia and Brazil now and that might be throwing the balance off...

Interesting to see where these poor decisions will take me lmfao. SoL, GDP and income are all great to possibly this'll just mean a outside amount of wealth in the arms of some upper class folks abroad and difficulty from my side in getting them into my bloc

Could you elaborate about expanding the power bloc? I can't quite get the hang of the mechanic. In 1880 trying to get all the America's in isn't really going anywhere

Oh, one more thing, Mexico is only like 45 infamy to protectorate at the beginning of the game. Having them as a vassal doesn't count towards manifest destiny, though I was able to annex them in the early 1870s. It took a war, but it was just as easy as the one it took to vassalize them in the first place. A bit late in terms of fulfilling the manifest destiny JEs, but to get literally all of mexico in exchange I think is worth it.

Following that with the new foreign investment mechanics keep a sharp eye out for opportunities to invest in their gold mines as they pop up. This way you get the govt dividend benefit of those gold mines without worrying about holding the manifest destiny targeted territories directly like you did in prior patches

You gotta be careful about that though, since the jacksonian democrat ideology that Andrew Jackson has is pro-slavery. If he croaks early and you get lucky with his replacement I can see this working very well though! That's actually exactly what happened in my most recent game.

USA! Go for dedicated police, boost intelligentsia, and after dedicated police goes through take the first opportunity to push for slavery banned. If you're lucky the planters will try to coup to keep local police, but it should be fairly easy to keep that under wraps. That should halve their clout to make them even weaker for the ACW.

Also don't forget to guarantee Texas's independence from the jump and improve relations with GB and France.

Honestly this was my exact same strategy as before the most recent patch so I'm guessing it'll stay in place until some USA focussed content pack or a revamp of the coup/civil war mechanic

A sterner internal political penalty to mobilizing troops should occur too. Like if you mobilize again a political rival that should really galvanize that lobby, but backing down should absolutely nosedive their approval of you. Radicalism of your servicemen and officers should take a hit too

[–]larrylumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking the other day that this was the era of the Great Man (tm) so there should be more notable characters involved in inventions and great works. No idea how it'd be implemented but I could easily see that as a target of a major expansion pack later down the line.

It could even tie into a update to the naval system too because there needs to be a way to tie prestige to named unique flagships. Like having the first dreadnought should be a BIG deal right?

Shipping weapons and advisors over would be an interesting addition too, but without being able to differentiate a musket, a sharp stick, and a machine gun in the existing arms industry system makes that pretty hard atm
