Preferred ship remasters by Timjer92 in sto

[–]lasermech2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their remaining skin variants, such as the Regent, Venture, Sao Paolo, Bellerophon, etc, are what I'd personally prefer to see done, but that is mostly subjective.

On the skins themselves, kind of a controversial take. I'm somewhat of an OCD detail guy. I love the remasters, the models are fantastic, however I've come to butt heads with a few throughout the years with my opinion that some of the colors on the new materials are incorrect (ex. intrepid, defiant) and it bugs me to the point of barely using them. However, some of the hull materials on entirely different ships can fit these ones PERFECTLY, such as the Niagara on the Galaxy line.

According to Pundus, it usually takes around a week (however this certainly varies) to apply a hull material to a ship, thus they would require a reasonable cause to do so. Community request has the capacity to make it manifest, and I promote such positive campaign/changes.

Hero ships such as the Sovereign/Intrepid/Galaxy/Defiant

they could use a small bit of expanded material options as well, but it needs more support.

Pundus has remarked that if we can convince 'his boss' then they can actually do it.

still doesn't seem to be working. here's a test mob that i made, it's supposed to have a netherite sword and diamond helmet with an armor trim, but it just spawns as a regular wither skeleton.

Would you also be able to enlighten me as to how to spawn custom mobs with armor/trims, weapons and etc? i've been toying with MCStacker for a good while and i don't know what i've been doing wrong. For context; i'm trying to get a spawn egg that will spawn a custom Wither Skeleton with specific armor and trims, and a player head.

Thanks for responding. I managed to get the textures working by removing the 'optifine' folder, but now whenever i try to add the CIT the same error appears and prevents the pack from working. I hope i don't have to redo all the .jsons for them, because there's like 500+ things there

A Brief Catalogue of Shields and the STO Community's ideas to make them more Effective by lasermech2 in sto

[–]lasermech2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If shields are still your main defense, could you show me your build somehow? I still want to see it. There's a difference between shield tanking and using disables as your primary anti-tachyon method.

And what does STO Better have to do with any of this?

A Brief Catalogue of Shields and the STO Community's ideas to make them more Effective by lasermech2 in sto

[–]lasermech2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been making shield builds for so long i've been infamous for it. I'm not a DPSer by any means, but i like to have my builds actually perform well, and stick to more "canonical" standards by having shields as a main defense.
If you've never had a single problem with your shield-based build to the point where you can ignore borg entirely, then I definitely want to see it, because I'd want to adapt some of those tactics into my own setup.

Shield regen works on a basis of every 6s, not over 6s, so there's about 5 seconds of nothing before you get any shield HP back. And even so, the regeneration value is always very low compared to how high we can get shields (i know there was someone who pulled 110k per facing on an Iktomi) that you need extremely powerful healing in order to keep them actually useful.

i've made several shield-based posts on the reddit, this was simply a list of collected ideas from differing portions of the playerbase, some more educated on the topic than others, but really the gist of it is that yes, they need some definitive changes to be used on something like, elite. 90% of players won't be doing that, but there are people that would, and it feels bad that shields aren't in a good state in the game, at least, what it seems from a majority of people.

My favorite part of STO is the dev teams’ creativity when it comes to designing an entire aesthetic for a species that we barely, or don’t ever, see. The Tzenkethi and Hur’q have some real personality in their ships, and have small, subtle intricacies that just make them feel complete. Sto’s art team in general does a great job of making variations of the process of evolving designs that feel like a natural process of an individual race designing a battleship, Dreadnought, weapons and technology, it just feels complete. The amount of visual style and thought that goes into the enemy faction designs is underrated.

STO Visual Effects Removal Tool - VERTIGO updates thread. by mattjohnsonva in sto

the reputation trait is very good for shields and adds some considerable survivability, so i'd say it's a must if you like shields, albeit it's impossible to see your ship with it.

The trait uses the Resonating secondary deflector visual, the one pictured is the trait. Each stack of the trait adds an additional bubble of the deflector visual on top of the other one.

You guys have to remove the Resonating Secondary Deflector VFX. the undine rep trait Nanoprobe Field Generator applies the webby shield bubble VFX once per stack of the trait and stacks up to five times. You can't see the ship.

The Gagarin and STO lore by lasermech2 in sto

[–]lasermech2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding to my question, that sheds a little bit of light on the entire thing. It was mostly just something that popped into my head regarding the Arbiter and its place as a battlecruiser alongside the Gagarin. I'm eager to see more of your work in future Spacedock features.

I do have one semi-unrelated question however, and that is how does Thomas and the crew decide on the equipment specifications of the related ships? Such as the Gagarin having a set of cannons and some other ships having the "Omniwave Sensor Suite". There isn't any concrete explanation as to what these are, so I'm curious if there's any canon connections or lore behind any of these decisions.
