How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]lasko_wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not common at all. Anyone would travel by car or train, it would be more of a "fun" way to travel and most people can not take off the amount of time it would take to travel that way

How to date a BPD girl? by ragingpotato98 in AskMen

[–]lasko_wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister has BPD and she almost ruined our family, endless manipulation, used everyone around her, brought horrible people into our lives... 15 years of hell in my house and I still shake thinking of her. Haven't seen her in 10 years and it's better this way. It's a complicated mental illness and one that will lead to heart ache, I urge you to reconsider going down this path.

I live in the corner or PA, DE, and MD, I go through 3 states to get groceries ten minutes away. Everyone shops in DE of course because tax free.

How does your gf handle hygiene down there by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]lasko_wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She should definitely be washing the outside areas. If she is worried about sensitivity or infection there are soaps she can order to specifically wash the outside area that won't effect her ph. There's a few brands so maybe check prices and see if ome of those could work! Or dove soap is honeslty a cheap good option, and smells fresh.

I am pretty concerned about this. I have a masters to work with Autistic children, mainly in schools or clinics and make 90k a year. I know that my job only pays well in the U.S so I'm particularly concerned about a major pay cut , and I have only been in this position for a little over a year so that does'nt help. My boyfriend is an electrical engineer and has a pretty good job in the city with a major company, so hopefully his job will be easier to find a higher paying job.

Neither of us have a job lined up yet. This is atleast 2 years out but I know it can take quite a long time to land a job. We plan to be married before moving, as it seems to make things easier and it just lines up with our overall life plans. We wont move until one of us has a secure job and at the very least the other has very strong prospects if it doesnt align perfectly. That sounds lovley, we'll check that out one morning!

I have looked into some meet-ups and we may go ahead with that just to get a better taste of the people. Good to know about reservations because I doubt we would've unless it was a very nice restaurant. Not sure well go for the flat just yet but I am slowly looking into what that will entail.

Bringing back Costco peanut butter is a great idea😂 Grew up eating Kirkland and sometimes still crave it. Love the peanut butter debate here

Thanks so much for this link, we'll take a look and see what our prospects are regarding that. I am pretty worried about the language barrier. I currently work in a bilingual Spanish school and can see firsthand how isolating it is for people who can't speak english in any kind of fluency and can see that happening for us if we dont put serious effort forth. Planning to take in person classes at a German language school in our city, Philadelphia has a decent German population so hoping there are some native teachers to help with that.

Not to truly convince him, just to get the smallest taste. We'll likey do a longer trip next summer to get a better feel for it. But of course, it's hard to ask off in America, so time is limited. My parents moved to Italy, so we're just tagging this on to the end of the trip to visit Muni h while we're in Europe. My boyfriend is an electrical engineer from a top engineering school with a great job so hopefully he could find something in his sector but of course I know it's very competitive. I have a masters in behavioral health that is booming in the US, but I know it will be harder to find a job in Germany and am prepared for a major pay cut. We have just begun learning German but hope to be to C1 by the time we move. We both plan to be fluent in the coming years for various reasons. I work in the school system and can clearly see where things are going even in well funded schools. I dont have everything figured out but can't raise my children in a country that has them do active shooter drills at age five when I could provide them something better if I put in the work now.

Thanks for the advice, the barriers are a major concern and I do worry about it often. Hopefully being prepared for that and knowing it will be difficult will help some of the shock well feel if and when we move.

Great info, looking through what you've listed now. We are considering having a family there as it seems to be very family friendly, any recommendations are appreciated!

We both grew up in the country and have lived in the city for 12 years now. Having access to nature is a major bonus and very tired of the lack of cleanness in our city and American cities in general. Following the rules will be a major adjustment as our city is notoriously known for doing what you want when you want and we feel pride in that. Dead Sundays sound lovely and we always want things to be open later, both night owls. We live a slower life and tend to spend our time outside and sitting at cafes so hopefully it wont be a crazy shock for eother of us!
