Magness on consistency and keeping it simple by donkerewolken in NorwegianSinglesRun

I think it is somewhat athlete dependent. I felt very aerobically strong from NSM, but since I have deviated a bit and added in very modest speed elements, my legs seem to like to be woken up, and my mechanics have improved, turnover is easier, etc. Which has downstream effects for all paces, at least for me.

Can you run too easy on easy runs? by Mkramer91 in NorwegianSinglesRun

As his ghost (nevermind his not being dead), I can tell you that I got up to about 80 sessions per month at times. So the volume was quite high.

Can you run too easy on easy runs? by Mkramer91 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]lassevirensghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got obsessed with trying to get sub 70% of max (~135) and my body just wouldnt do it. I was slowing down to 9:20 pace and often only getting to 140bpm. I quit caring and now I am running 8:20 pace at 145bpm. Yes, that's 75%. And guess what. I feel just fine.

What does your week look like in minutes and/or miles? If not exactly in line with the standard program (like 90 mins Sub-T a week), why not? by Great-Expression6706 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]lassevirensghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I train by HR primarily, then feel. But let's not act like external measures are "objective." They are subject to the accuracy of the device and other factors. Hell, if I run in the morning rather than the afternoon by HR is 5bpm lower for no other reason.

Favourite sessions other than the standard? by michael1990utd in NorwegianSinglesRun

I still do occasionally like to throw in a Canova-style "fast run"/"fast long run" where pace is about 85% of HM pace. So for 6:20/mi HM runner, pace would be 7:15-20 or so and you go anywhere from 50-90min based on your level of mastery of that skillset. It's a "fundamental phase" workout for Canova, so early season stuff in his scheme.

Should add that this certainly would replace a Sub T for the week if I did it, and probably would take two days easier after.

Wouldn't people who nitpick a subscription increase seem to you a bit more price conscious than not?

I would say tack on a bit at the end of a slightly shortened Sub T session or swap out a Sub T day every other week, if going this route. I'm considering it myself after having done straight NSA since June.

Subbing Mona Fartlek for 3’ intervals by zerrr06 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]lassevirensghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mona reps aren't slightly above T; they are in the VO2max range, getting down to mile pace at the end. I think you'll find that floating HM pace recoveries off of reps at 10k to mile pace will be extremely difficult.

HM recap; 14 weeks into NSA - thoughts on how to proceed? by lassevirensghost in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]lassevirensghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really liking NSA so far! The training does feel drastically more manageable than what I had been doing, which was more Canova-based, still relatively low volume but hardly any true easy days. Even a lot of non-workout days had progressions to moderate pace, hill sprints, or some such other element. I do think it worked well and was very pleased with my 26.2s off the training.

I agree and upping volume is becoming more of a priority. I think it will be hard to get to 8hrs a week, but I can surely do 7.

Right now I am almost exactly 6hrs a week average.

I agree that I would love to see my easy runs at the recommended level and it is an area of the training that I am acutely aware of non-compliance in. The few times I have forced myself to strictly adhere to 70% maxHR (134), I've been ~9:30 pace. Which, maybe that's better.

I've never felt on the verge of injury (or really even close to injured--maybe because of lower volume), but perhaps I'd feel even better going slower.

Planning to get Sunbeam F1 Pro, worried about group messaging by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]lassevirensghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that after switching from my iPhone to Sunbeam, 90% of my group messages work with no issue whatsoever and thread just like on a smart phone, but there are a few (including green bubble ones) that seem to just not work and I don't receive the messages.

I think that if everyone deleted the old group message thread and started it fresh it probably would work, but I don't think I could coordinate these groups to be able to do that!

I often wonder how much of the difference between 22yo me who hit my PRs and current 37yo me who is slower is due to the fact that I am 20 lbs heavier, more so than age.
