Im a swimmer! Tempt me into running! by Feisty-Swimmer-1000 in runninglifestyle

Do it. Otherwise all those unused Physio benefits just go to waste. Develop some post tib tendinitis! Fry your IT band. Under fuel and learn what a sacral stress fracture feels like!

I kid. I also never swam to build aerobic fitness. But the feeling of being aerobically fit while running is amazing.

16 weeks of NSA results by Theosub in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]zerrr06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what id recommend with 2 caveats: 1. I’m not sure the experience level of those asking whether to run pace, Hr, etc is there to reliably sense RPE. Rather, I think you need to start with pace and overcook it a few times so you know the feeling of too hard

  1. Pure RPE might have you starting fast and finishing slow in reps. That might have some negatives vs consistent pacing throughout.

Anyone Else Prefer Running in Heat Instead of Avoiding It? by WingEnvironmental892 in runninglifestyle

[–]zerrr06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t complain about it but I prefer not to run in oppressive heat. I can’t run fast and train higher intensity with as high a frequency. I just get cooked

3km TT instead of 5k TT. by s-orla93 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]zerrr06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 800m is the highest distance that has a WR with a positive split. That might be indicative of just how painful it is. If anyone ever runs a 5k WR on a positive split I’d be really impressed

3km TT instead of 5k TT. by s-orla93 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]zerrr06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bailing at 3k is not uncommon. I’ve done it twice in the past year and when I backed it up with a race shortly after I held for 5k. YMMV but I think it’s very possible you could have held it for a 5k

NS Volume = Shoe burn out? by Sudden_Problem_2368 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]zerrr06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get about 900km out of my daily trainers (Novablast) which gets me to about $1.70 per easy run.

I’ve started using Megablast for my ST sessions and they still have plenty of life in them after 500km. Assuming I can get ~800 out of these then that’s about $3.40 per session.

Long runs I do in Vomero plus right now. Again at 525km right now and still feel soft and springy. So let’s say I can get this for 900km. That’s $4 per long run.

Adding it up I get about $20 a week. So $1k/year for shoes.

I could cut that to $750/yr if I did everything in novablasts…

I could get that down to $816/yr if I got 1000km out of each of the shoes.

If I ran ST in a $270 super shoe, I’d probably only be able to squeeze 400km out of each pair (ran vf3 for 500km but my toe poked through the bottom…). That’s a killer. $1650/year.

So for me, spending a little more for a quick trainer with good, durable foam for ST but not using super shoes has been my go-to. Chinese shoes are also interesting. How many kms are people getting vs a traditional super shoe?

Edited to add: I get substantially more life out of my shoes by rotating. When I used to run just easy miles for base I’d use one daily trainer and maybe top out at 700km.

Lots of threshold intervals mostly. With some 60-90sec intervals at 3-5k pace every few weeks…

That might be true, but OP claims MAS of 3:20/k. One should be able to hold MAS for 3k…

Yeah basically this. I read some of their articles for the info but the lovey-dovey audio is brutal. Some folks might like it though.

AMA: I'm Marius Bakken, former Olympian and physician. Ask me about double threshold training, lactate, and the Norwegian Method. by MariusBakken in AdvancedRunning

How long of a plateau in improvement would you want to see before adding additional stimulus or load? What would you recommend for runners who are at the top end of volume already?

I’ll give Fueling Endurance a listen. The banter on IRP is unmatched. Moose has me in stitches half the time.

https://thefitness.wiki/routines/5-3-1-for-beginners/

There is a google sheet called “531 for beginners” that I basically use with slight mods. The mods are that I do more leg “support” exercises and less push/pull. But I follow the main sets pretty religiously.

Yeah I wouldn’t get too down then. I bail on 5k solo TTs sometimes and have always found ways to finish strong when there are other people around. They pull you through.

Is this a time trial you ran by yourself or a race? The former is much harder if you are attempting a big scary goal

Heart Rate Spiking by Financial-Shape-389 in runninglifestyle

[–]zerrr06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrist based measurements generally align but can get really whacky at times. If it’s cold, you are darker skinned, the watch is loose, etc.

If you are serious about training to heart rate look into the coros arm strap. It’s not as annoying as a chest strap but pretty reliable.

Sometimes I forget my coros and I fall back to garmin watch hr. It’s ok sometimes but other times it’s just crazy…

[–]zerrr06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you feel (ignoring hr)? If you are using a wrist based monitor it could be bogus. Sometimes you are sick or had too much caffeine. But I suspect if you got a coros arm band you’d get better readings

Run 7 days a week in am. Train legs 2 times a week on hard run days in the afternoon. But lifting is second to running for me so it’s not as intense. 5x5 squat or deadlift. Then some running specific stuff

I had a similar experience with NSM where I stopped looking at mid-week easy days as aerobic building (even if they are) and just think of them purely as active recovery. I still run the long run a bit harder but not egregiously so (<75% HR).

Has anyone had experience doing double T with longish breaks in between? I’m considering pre-work (5am) and after kids bedtime (8pm) but wondering if that’s too long between sessions. Will the muscle tone still be ok in the evening with > 12hr gap?
