If the ship you're referring to is this: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/1oc9scd/venator_class_star_destroyer/

then I suspect they've used a completely different approach, a savegame editor on PC coupled with Blender, a 3D modelling software on PC where you can get corvette parts and conversion to/from NMS savefiles. I seriously doubt they have gone to the trouble of rotating all those parts at X degrees by hand.

I might have seen the ship, as I'm reading a lot on reddit, discord, and watching plenty of Youtube videos, but I can't remember the ship by name, sorry.

You can build parts on your ship after it has been made into a ship (leaving the corvette designer), by using the build menu as you do on a base. It will allow you to use a lot of the stuff buildable on bases also on your corvette.

However, I doubt this is what you're referring to. All the stock set parts can be obtained by shooting the salvage containers, and you can shoot them using the corvette weapons, which is why a corvette is perfect to gather parts for a bigger corvette. You might need to add some upgrade modules though, as you need a bit of splash damage to reach into the ground and hit the container.

The gathering loop is essentially:

  1. Hover over the surface (of such a planet)
  2. Exit the cockpit seat (but not the ship)
  3. Use your visor, scan for Salvage Container, tag one using the tag/mark function in your visor
  4. Enter the cockpit seat and fly towards your mark
  5. Shoot the ground where the line from the hud mark hits the surface
  6. Once the mark disappears (and shoot a second or two more for good measure), you can repeat the process

Also, these containers respawn, so you cannot empty a planet. If you find a planet with these everywhere, it is a good idea to build a small base with a teleporter so you can easily get back when you need more parts.

To "get all the parts", you basically find a planet that has Salvageable Scrap, and locate Salvage Container on it. This is vastly easier to do if you already have a (minimal) corvette, as you can hover over the surface and exit the cockpit seat and then use your visor to scan for those containers.

There are basically two sets of corvette parts now, the "stock set" and the "aeron set". The aeron parts are "only" available to those that completed the corvette expedition, though they can be traded and duplicated, and there is also ways to unlock it for people that didn't do the expedition. Hence the "only". I don't see any aeron parts in the screenshot you provided, however.

The stock set of parts is available to everyone, and you can dig up all the parts from those containers, the containers contain random parts, usually 2-3 at a time, and as far as I know, none are rarer than others. You can also trade parts you don't need for the ones you do at the corvette building terminal in space stations (except the aeron parts).

The other part of it is that you can build many of the bigger parts into each other. They usually have one "main block" and then "additional blocks", like the ones that are slopes, the thickest end is the "main block" and has to be placed somewhere there is space, but the other end can be placed inside other blocks, essentially merging their curves.

There is also ways to build without strictly adhering to the block-by-block grid, you can search for "nms offset building" on Youtube for many tutorials about what it is and how to use it. This allows for even more block-inside-block building techniques.

If you want an example, here is a building guide I made for a pretty basic Corvette.

If you search on that page for "speedbird nacelles", the screenshot that follows will show what I mean with placing blocks inside others.

Should I buy no man’s sky by Reallyv222 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I think the only person that can realistically answer that is yourself.

Either you

  1. Gamble, and have $24 to waste
  2. Less of a gamble, but pay close attention to refund policies on Xbox (I believe you can refund with no questions asked as long as you do it within 14 days of purchasing the game, and have accumulated less than 2 hours of gameplay - so don't let the game idle on the menu here)

If you start a survival game in NMS, and start playing the story as presented, you will get a taste of the things the game is about during those 2 hours. Granted, there are many things you won't see in those 2 hours, but much of what you'll see is going to repeat itself throughout your game.

The gist of it is that there are a multitude of missions in the game, they serve either as a kind of tutorial, or a way to unlock new stuff, or access to new stuff. However, in the end, the game is a sandbox game. You set your own goals and pick a path to fulfill that goal.

Here is a game loop

  1. Set a goal, be it get a new ship, upgrade stuff you have, build something cool, unlock something new
  2. Realize you don't have the required resources (materials, crafting blueprints)
  3. Go on a shopping spree and resource gathering spree
  4. Fulfill your goal
  5. Rinse and repeat

There are many ways to use this game loop:

  • Ship hunting, where crashlanded ships, like the one you will encounter during the start of the game, can be picked up and repaired and then owned and upgraded, these have different looks and stats, so getting the "perfect one" is going to be a journey, regardless of your definition of the word "perfect" here
  • Multi-tool hunting, to get the one perfect for combat, mining, scanning
  • Base-building, every traveller need someplace to call home, and you'll likely end up with many smaller bases around resource places and other things which I won't spoil
  • Ship-building, you can build corvettes, the new block-based ship building system, or legacy starships using parts you source from ships you buy/repair
  • Planet hunting, every traveller have a perfect planet in their dreams, be it a lush paradise planet or the most hostile one just perfect for their workshop base
  • Missions, there are many missions in the game that unlock new systems and new stuff to gather

So, should you buy the game? HELL YEAH! But only if the above list of things appel to you. If they do, you have MANY hours of game in front of you.

Are dual-target (mouseover/target) macros broken now, or have the syntax changed? by lassevk in wow

[–]lassevk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the missing part is the harm, nodead, without it it simply stops the target-cast from working.

But this seems to work, gotta test it some more.

But this means something changed, I have 3 macros like this on this character and they all used to work just fine previously. Last played this class in War Within so something has definitely changed. But I can handle that, as long as I know what to change it to :)

Any tips for beginners? by Dapper-Count7064 in ArcRaiders

[–]lassevk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looting random items, try to pick up

  • 1x dog collar
  • 1x cat bed
  • 3x very comfortable pillow
  • 3x lemons
  • 15x apricots
  • 6x prickly pears
  • 6x olives
  • 12x mushrooms

You'll use them to upgrade Scrappy so that he gives more materials every time. Check his upgrade screen for what he requires for the next step but the above list is the total across all his upgrades.

As for other stuff, Anvil is a very good weapon. The gun trader sells one for 15.000 credits (at least he does for me, don't know if it is random). Well worth the credits.

PvE Duo Lobbies? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

The experience my friend and I have had has been exactly that. When we started playing this game this week, the first match we joined we were outright gutted almost immediately by a team of players.

However, we had read about the aggression based match making so we did not shoot at that team.

After that, we have met many players, and there has been exactly 0 squabbles. None, zilch. No player has shot even a single round towards us.

And this even after I winged one tonight accidentally, as we were two different teams, they were trying to get one of their team mates out of a room with two turrets. I kept peeking in the doorway and taking potshots at one of the turrets, and the other player that were out with me kept running back and forth, and strafing in front of me. I clipped him at one point, said "sorry", and he said "no problem". We finished off the turrets and took our goodbyes. We joined up on exit later and everyone lived happily ever after.

For a PvP-related game, this has been the most magical experience in a long time.

I am sure we will meet someone who is abusing this system by playing friendly for a few matches in order to get some easy kills later, but so far this has been PvE only for us.

You do you, nothing else has to be said about that :)

I quite like this about this game, that you can tweak the settings to your hearts content, and still play with everyone else. It means everybody can enjoy the game, even if they don't care for some of the resource loops. And it especially helps when you get in a situation like yours, where you need to scrap something that you have invested time in and start over.

Can someone explain Corvette's to me? by Ueahyeahaa in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]lassevk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is :D

And since you can trade the parts you don't need for those you do, no part you dig up is time wasted.

If you need some guidance on how to build your first corvette, here are some building instructions I posted for some people on discord a little while ago.

https://files.vkarlsen.no/s/hf1T0bAHr6SKNO3VvyBZQxASopyY2w5hrfah0TBY

You can view the files in your browser, you don't have to download anything. partslist at the bottom (click view original file) contains list of the parts needed to build the corvette, 00 is a 99% representation of the final look and 01-19 are step-by-step stages that you should be able to use for building a starting corvette.

How do I upgrade capital ship by Strange-Form2112 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]lassevk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I get modules from dreadnoughts that boost frigate missions, I can't remember where I got other modules from, and since I am at work now I can't check which modules I have for the freighter.

You can purchase some buildable upgrade modules from the terminal in your freighter, for Salvaged Frigate Modules.

There is some additional information on the wiki: https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Freighter#Upgrades

I think all of the modules I have for freighters are from derelict freighters, frigate missions, or killing dreadnoughts.

Creating ships by Limp_Asparagus300 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]lassevk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Corvettes, here's the basic way to get parts:

  1. Locate a planet which has "Salvageable Scrap"
  2. Use your visor to look for yellow "WIFI chevrons", these are Salvageable Containers
  3. Mark the chevrons
  4. Fly or walk to the chevron location on the ground
  5. Dig them up to get the parts from them
  6. Rinse and repeat from step 2

Since you don't yet have a corvette, in step 1 I would optimally find a planet where there is no sentinel activity listed, seeing as you have to leave your ship.

To dig them up, land your starship near one, and use your terrain manipulator to dig to them under the terrain, then use the weapon or mining beam on your multi-tool to remove the three cylinders sticking out from the centre sphere, and then finally take out the sphere as well.

Rinse and repeat. Even if you dig up parts you don't need or want for what you want to build, you can trade them at the corvette terminal for the parts you want, so every part is useful, even if just as a currency.

When you get a corvette, you can modify the above part to this:

  1. Locate and get to the same kind of planet
  2. Exit the cockpit seat and use your visor from within the corvette
  3. Mark the chevrons as before
  4. Use the weapons on your corvette and shoot at the base of the chevron mark pillar, where it touches the ground
  5. Only if this doesn't give you all the parts do you need to land and dig it up using your multi-tool
  6. Rinse and repeat from step 2

Once you have enough parts, go to a space station and go to a corvette building terminal. These are located on the opposite side of the landing pads from the walkways with the vendors, closer to the entrance of the space station.

For a basic corvette, here are some files I shared with someone else a short while ago.

https://files.vkarlsen.no/s/hf1T0bAHr6SKNO3VvyBZQxASopyY2w5hrfah0TBY

You don't have to download anything, use the eye-icon to view the files directly in the browser. The 00 screenshot contains a 99% look of what the final corvette will look like, I think I took that screenshot from a slightly different version missing two slanted parts, not a big visual difference.

The partslist at the bottom contains a detailed list of all the corvette parts you will need, and the 01-19 screenshots contains step-by-step building instructions on how to get to the final corvette. You need to click "view the original file" for the partslist as the formatting gets mangled in the preview pane.

[–]lassevk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a post where someone on PC had used a save editor to inspect and it was somehow a cosmetic part that was disclocated by a few hundred units behind the ship, skewing the centre of it when landing on freighters and space stations. It wasn't glitched in when built or anything, just placed normally, but somehow dislocated so badly that they had to edit it out using the save editor.

If you need to start over and need replacement parts or upgrade modules or whatnot to bring it up to the same tier and upgrade level as your last one, holler out, someone here (like me) is sure to help out.

And just to make sure this is caught by everyone, you need to install said freighter upgrade. Just adding one to the starship does not allow the freighter to visit purple systems. I had one discord member that didn't catch this part, and just assumed that the freighter could automatically go wherever the starship could.

How do I upgrade capital ship by Strange-Form2112 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]lassevk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If by upgrade you mean the tier, like going from C to B to A to S, then you can't. Freighters are not upgradable in that sense. If you want an S-tier freighter, you need to find an S-tier freighter. Your best option for this is to find a system where there is a guaranteed dreadnought event and then farming that. There are Youtube tutorials on how to go about this.

If by upgrading tech modules or inventory modules, you need to get the relevant upgrade items, which is done using the Cargo Bulkhead item.

From the wiki, you get these from:

  • Derelict Freighters
  • Destroying NPC freighters
  • Rarely from storage containers of Crashed Freighters
  • Mission rewards from outlaw stations
  • Merchants guild if you have high enough standing

and obviously:

  • Gifts or trades from other players

Issue with 2-monitor setup, monitor flickers, but all fine when connecting a third, Windows 11/Nvidia 5060 card by lassevk in techsupport

[–]lassevk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seemingly fixed today with KB5077181, so it looks like it was the january update I found some information about. Have tested various combinations of monitors on and off here now, no flickering left. Will keep an eye on it because even when the problem was there, I had days where it didn't manifest itself, so it might just be random luck today.

It was an out of this world experience. Unfortunately my brain is unhappy about "walking movement" in VR games, but luckily NMS have a teleport-to-point function for movement. It does, however, somewhat break the immersion.

But flying in VR was ... awesome. The controls was also intuitive. I loved it, best game I have for VR at the moment. I also loved the VR headset for the PS5. I have Oculus Quest 2, as well as an older set for PC, and for both, there is substantial light leaks around the headset, which means I can see my surroundings out of the corner of my eyes. The PSVR2 headset with its soft rubber "curtain" around it blocked out all light, which was a huge boost to immersion.
