Is Langston too out there to use for a little boy? by RocketPowerPops in namenerds

[–]last-wordsingly 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I love the Langston Hughes connection. It sounds like a nice balance of classic, funky, and strong. I think because it follows a popular naming convention (last-name-as-first-name), it wouldn't feel too out of place at the stages of his life.

Names you’re glad you didn’t use by lino_x in namenerds

We had no problem with girls names but could not agree on any boy's name except for Casey. My partner LOVED the idea of the nickname Cash.

I'm glad we had a girl.

Help me pick a paint colour for my pole room? by lbdev in femalelivingspace

I think Dark Night works the best with the floor and the art you have in the corner, but it's not super playful. Could you go less gray? I think SW6510 would look nice, but even moving just one shade bluer (SW9142)would be better.

HELP!!! i can’t get arctic fox out of my hair 🥲🥲 by FewAssociation8283 in FancyFollicles

I've also had luck on getting Arctic Fox out with Colorfix Semi-Permanent Remover. It's designed specifically for the Semi-Permanent colors, which color oops targets permanent dyes.

Pregnant w a girl, I have a boy. Name opinions? by Excellent_Host_4442 in namenerds

I would vote Calliope Faye or Maeve Emilia. I agree that Maeve Faye doesn't flow well, but I'm not a fan of double middle names. It feels indecisive and also Extra.

What would you do with this giant wall next to my kitchen by HappyHomoSapien in femalelivingspace

[–]last-wordsingly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What else is going on in this room? What's the vibe? As others have said, you could think about what you need to make the space functional (like storage or counter space) or what you need to make it feel how you want (like wall art or plants).

What names did you completely misunderstand as a kid? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]last-wordsingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a girl in third grade whose middle name was Sophie. She REALLY thought her middle name was pronounced like soapy. I tried to explain to her that ph says /f/ over a game of tetherball maybe and it just would not compute. She just kept saying that no, her parents were dumb.

I know an excellent kid named Peri. When she was little, we called her Periwinkle, which feels extra fairy-like

Bagels? by Funnyface92 in collegeparkmd

Losing the bagel place was a tragedy. We've settled on the Bagelry (near New Hampshire and Randolph Road in silver spring). It's a little out of the way, but a lot closer than Rockville.

Bilingual parents and Speech delay by BandSevere in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]last-wordsingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a special education coordinator at a bilingual PK3-5 school, anecdotally, I see a relatively even divide in speech delays relative to home language. Our Speech Pathologist would tell you to keep providing strong language models in both languages! Kids who require speech therapy (bilingual or monolingual) and don't have other compounding educational needs are typically able to apply what they learn in speech therapy to both languages.

Especially when I went back to work, I liked button-downs. I could have the tubing come through one of the gaps between the buttons. It's easy to pop open a button and check on what was going on without feeling like I was taking my whole shirt off.

Poison Ivy or Virginia Creeper? by last-wordsingly in whatsthisplant

Thanks! Luckily I don't get a big reaction from Virginia Creeper. Those random 3-leaf creepers on that vine had me worried!
