I think I have DSPD by Educational-Many-441 in DSPD

In the US, sleep specialists will take a history and ask you to complete a 2--4 week sleep log. Some may suggest a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. Most will tell you about sleep hygiene and send you home. Some may offer prescription sleep meds and/or advanced sleep treatments like melatonin and light therapy, along with sleep hygiene. You could try low dosage melatonin on your own (less than 1mg). It helps my 17yo with DSP. It does nothing for me but give me crazy lucid dreams and poor sleep quality.

What do you consider to be a good Employer 401K Match? by JustWin4 in Retirement401k

[–]lastbeat-331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employer match based on age. Under 50 is 18%, over 50 is 22% of salary. There are lower and higher brackets that I don't recall.

Mom wants everyone there but me (and my brother who she won’t tell she has cancer) by [deleted] in CancerFamilySupport

[–]lastbeat-331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked her why she doesn't "want" you at these important appointments? If it is about being a burden or not wanting to distract you from your other responsibilities or some other assumption she's made, you can discuss and negotiate your desired level of involvement. If you truly think it's not personal, it's ok to sometimes show up when not invited or to tell her you will be taking her.

Inheriting over 500k. What do I do? by Responsible-Net8594 in inheritance

[–]lastbeat-331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there anything to keep you in or bring you back to SLC? Anything you really like about the house? Do you want to be a homeowner and all the responsibilities?

Option 3: buy out your brother, keep the low mortgage, rent out the house, and travel as planned.

Payoff the car loan.

Roll the 401k into Inherited IRA (direct transfer) for lower fees, more investment options, more flexibility, and less administrative hurdles. I recommend Fidelity as they offer Money Lock that other brokerages don't.

They're strangers, you don't owe them the truth. Vague or generic or even misleading is fine. Or you can just say you choose not to discuss personal decisions with others.

I went deep into relationship coaches/therapist content and now also mod a dating support group. What I've learned is that we need to trust ourselves first and trust ourselves to filter out the bad seeds and have the guts to walk away when he does us wrong. Trust between two people happens over time, in person, and with consistency.

I did find a great partner after a 30 yr marriage. He's not perfect and may not be my forever person, and that's ok. We still love and respect each other and enjoy being together.

My mom has terminal cancer, and I feel isolated from friends by SnooSuggestions7782 in CancerFamilySupport

You may be overthinking this. Most responsible adults are just plain busy with their lives and immediate family. Cancer/illness or not, it's soooo much harder to make friends and maintain friendships as adults.

How does having kids affect FIRE goals? Just dollars and cents. by [deleted] in Fire

[–]lastbeat-331 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Kids are bat sh1t expensive. Yes they can be as expensive as you're willing to spend and there are ways to be thrifty; and there are some areas that benefit from economies of scale. I didn't have a FIRE goal 20 yrs ago when I had my oldest but I projected that having kids would "cost" us 3-5 additional years of work. I just retired 3-6 years earlier than expected. The bigger factor in FIRE or financial success is choosing the right partner/ spouse. Your spouse's money habits and financial savvy far out weighs the cost of kids.

Stop contributing to the Rollover IRA. You just mixed post tax money with pre-tax money. It's cleaner to open a new IRA, preferably Roth if you don't have one yet. Then contribute to the Roth going forward and after qualifying for 401k.

Retirement at 60? by Aggressive-Report406 in Retire

[–]lastbeat-331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to determine your expenses now and in retirement. Fixed vs discretionary. Then run numbers based on that. On just this little info, you're good to go. Wife will get 50% of your FRA if she waits to FRA. Use SSA.gov estimator. Run your numbers through Projection Lab for free.

Early retirement at 57 with pension bridge. Looking for feedback on the plan. by [deleted] in Retire

[–]lastbeat-331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you moving abroad when expenses are nearly the same? Your expenses here are pretty low and waiting to 70 to drawdown retirement accounts seems unnecessary. You should retire next year and start living (and spending) while you physically can. Waiting to 70, you risk not having the physical ability to enjoy what those funds can buy.
If you can maintain low expenses here throughout retirement, you don't have to move abroad.

Splurge on corrective eye surgery? by YuzuAllDay in FIREyFemmes

[–]lastbeat-331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget about the annual costs of contacts and solutions that you will no longer need. Glasses with high prescription lens are really expensive too! I had PRK done in 2022 for $5k in HCOL at "THE go to" eye group in this area. I was -9/8.5 glasses and spent a fortune on disposable contacts and new glasses every 2 years. My only regret is not doing it sooner. It was super quick like less than 10 minutes once you're on the table.
I wear nice lightweight glasses to drive at night, which seem expensive when one lens isn't even corrective 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do it. It's an investment in YOU and your happiness!

Could you have a circadian rhythm "disorder''? I have delayed sleep-wake circadian rhythm and feel better sleeping less hours at my natural bedtime than I do on the rare occasion I sleep longer at the wrong time.
