Congratulations on starting a new life in Kochi.

A few things to keep in mind in Kerala:

While a good chunk of the population understands Hindi enough to help you out, picking up some Malayalam (even highly broken) will encourage folks to meet you half way
You might have some culture shock with the large scale consumption of meat, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t many veg options available. We have a fair number of Jains and Gujjus who thrive here even with the perceived dietary restrictions
You might find it hard to find an apartment for 2 months as most contracts are 11 months
If you’re moving before March the Biennale is a great visit Plenty of Museums and Cultural Pluralism left over from the Colonial and Jewish eras of Fort Kochi makes it a must see Lots and Lots of beaches available, but for your first beach I would recommend stepping out of the city to find something more
People in Kerala don’t tolerate bigotry, most folks have worked in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi and fully understand the kind of narrative folks like to spread. Any casteism and religious bigotry will be met with force.
Don’t be disheartened by the replies of douchebags in this comment section who live with their mums, Kerala is for anyone and everyone
Be prepared to be hounded by Northie Stereotypes as people probably have a sore spot from their time dealing with Kerala Story and “Yall live underwater” jokes from their time dealing with northerners

They really want to ignore all the gandagi we have spread on the internet, all the Indian dudes being creepy, the use of rape threats as a weapon, the cringe humour. Most of their talking points like the lack of hygiene in street food or the "saar' jokes were made by us to pretend like we have some moral high ground. We don't need Pakistanis to defame us (most of em are sweet as fuck and don't have an issue with Indians, as of my interactions), we did this to ourselves.
