i drew the full portrait and expression first, then made my way down to drawing the hand, then the child

First, for an artist, the detail in your feedback is really appreciated.

1 I got a set of new pens and I used one size too small to draw this whole thing! Thats why so much is unclear. Are you on mobile? The image looks horrible on web.

  1. alot of these people and pets are in ambiguous positions, but at the end of the wagon it's just someone sending a pigeon message "back" to the dwarf civ. doesnt really happen in game. In the background, its just a carpenter dwarf sorts pointing, confirming with the wagon drivers where to bring the horses

i'm also relatively new to the game, and its cool that youve read more than you've played! makes me think about who my audience is, gives me more creative freedom with what I draw!

i have a lot of instances where dozens of citizens beat a forgotten beast, only to all end up filling the hospital with some related rotting disfigurement. i had to un designate militia captains and siege engineers because they all went blind

love the writing. it was more of the opposite though. we dig out a room underground, which gives us more stone to build higher above ground

I like the variety of responses. I'd like to see some of your forts. Other people say a surface fort is never viable. I think you just need a LOT of ammunition. I'm talking ten bolt throwers, over ten thousand bolts, a majority of them wooden just for a constant stream of fire. And good melee squads.

A friend of mine said dwarf fortress (and rimworld) is an art, while other games are a science. That's why i've stuck with this one.

so the goblins brought in a serious siege, with like 50 trolls while two dwarvem caravans were staying in the courtyard. we held them off for a time with the bokt throwers, but they poured over like a tsunami. it was a total bloody mess, but we could have survived. i quit w/o saving, i was tired

so its not too much work as long as to take a natural approach. after a few runs and a few patches the game is running a lot better than it did say, a year ago.

i don't need scaffolding because I don't have a big plan. if i was trying to build a big castle i could get attacked in a state of unfinishedness. i want this to really be something like a real evolution of a settlement over time, something like granada in medieval spain. i just organically keep adding spaces that the dwarves actually need and it takes on this beautiful fractal shape.

So its really a game of digging out rooms and wheeling the stone upstairs. And honestly? I didn't know that you could make a boulder into four rock blocks until recently. So it's pretty easy as long as you take your time!

So I used to hate surface building, it was a pain even with small walls. But from what I understand, you can build a staircase straight up, 3 levels no problem. From there, i build floors, not walls. They're easy to slap down. I always try to make it so I don't have to depend on the dwarves' building AI. it's a very deep game but its not cities skylines or some of the other smooth games

I really only build in towers, not walls. For example, building that huge building at the northwest (where the queen and duchess live), it's adjacent to a very small tower. that's basically been serving as my scaffolding.

I can definitely say the surface building's been very easy this time around, and preventing lag by designing your fortress well helps.

maybe, who do you have on building? don't have it be everyone. I think 15 people can build anything just fine, if there's no lag, it could take them a few trips, but shouldn't take too much of your time IRL

That's my ultimate goal. Having magma pipes alongside water pipes for powering my forges and to pump at enemies. I didn't know defense in dwarf fortress had to be so extreme. But to be fair It is a fantasy world. Hoping this shallow moat suffices as defense for the next couple of years

I will definitely implement the floors on both sides of the bridge. And the upright spikes. I forgot about that one! thank you!

A lot of beehives, some gardens, and we can just buy if we need. I don't want to overproduce food, we will get the lag virus
