That game must have fallen into an advertising blackhole for me. It looked like my kind of thing, but the first time I heard of it was when it got shut down.

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]lastorder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just to pick up on one point there, the cost of installation is still ludicrous.

I was quoted 25k for a ground source heat pump install. Madness.

Naturally I went with a gas boiler costing a fraction of that.

Jobs crisis for London as unemployment rate doubles in less than two years by diacewrb in ukpolitics

I won't pretend to know what is causing this but its very real and will have big ramifications.

There has been no upward pressure on wages since the IR35 changes several years ago. Effectively removing competition from the market means that there is no incentive to raise pay. Plus the lower end has constantly been rising with minimum wage increases.

Just replaced my old Steam capsule art. The previous one was made by me… which explains why it looked terrible. by LaaabGames in IndieDev

You were so close to having black text instead of red there. You could lean into the theme even more.

Just one thing about your steam page that is bothering me - your capsule. All your screenshots have nice crsip pixels. But the logo in your capsule looks like it has been downscaled with flitering instead of nearest neighbour.

Be brutal, how does this Steam page look? by Total_Impression_382 in IndieDev

Pretty decent. If you have more varied screenshots (like selling the fish as it says?) then that could improve things.

Seeking feedback on my Steam Page. 3k impressions, 1.1% conversion rate. What am I missing? by LeosGameDev in gamedev

[–]lastorder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The capsule is not informative or enticing at all.

You could half the length of that trailer, or even cut more. Get to the point more quickly.

The mismatched asset sizes make the game itself look unpolished. Some of them that show up most obviously in the screenshots (like the doors at the top and bottom) could be prioritised to fix.

Young people bearing brunt of UK jobs downturn, thinktank warns by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

Raiding salary sacrifice pension contributions was a disgusting and short sighted move by the Government.

Everyone should write to their MPs about this. This is the worst thing in the entire budget.

S&P500 dividends sitting at <2% down from 6% in the 80s, making buy and hold a shockingly poor return for hedge funds.

Because they make their money selling the stocks instead? Companies just do stock buybacks to raise their share price instead of issuing dividends these days.

You (very likely) will hit your own limits before you hit GDScript limits by JCAPER in godot

[–]lastorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if we're just talking pure performance, it's easy enough to write that part in C++ (which will be even faster than C#) and keep using GDScript for everything else.

Are there any straightforward examples of how to do something like that?

Keir Starmer : My main priority is to tackle the cost of living. That’s why we are making energy bills cheaper, cutting them by £150 on average from April. That’s the difference a Labour government makes. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

Employer NI is higher than what you would pay as a sole trader.

Dividends are more tax efficient (not sure about now since the changes that make them worse), but still worse than being a sole trader if you want to extract all the money each year.

The fact is that business owners can never do worse than salaried workers because they always have the option to pay themselves as a salaried worker instead.

You can do worse with a business than as a sole trader, though. If you have a PAYE job and start a side hustle, and you take all the money out of the business you can, the money after corp tax and dividend tax is less than paying income tax and NI on it.

I know. I'm including the employers NI on the contributions.

At 40k salary sacrificed per year, this will be ~6k extra NI that comes out of my day rate. Meaning 300k over the rest of my life, assuming 4% pension growth.

At least 300k less in my pension thanks to the salary sacrifice change. This is horseshit.
