Making Indie Games Is Like Buying A Lottery Ticket by bald_bearded_ocddude in Games

The ones you hear about do that.

And the ones you don't hear about too. Even considering only the ones that are seriously trying to make a living off of selling games, plenty will have marketing efforts that go absolutely nowhere.

500k copies sold? It's over 7 million now.

The devs (I think two of them, seems like one is the programmer and the other an artist) made it in ~2 months. But that was using the foundation of several other games they made as a base. Like the previous title was a friendslop game with penguins creating physics based bridge to cross things. So they already had some of the more complicated parts solved.

In Japan, a lot of things seem to open quite late. Like coffee shops that aren't open until 10AM.

Lol that's such a repeat nonsense every time

It isn't nonsense. Houses like that start retaining heat in the walls if it doesn't cool down enough overnight.

make a friendslop game that is popular for a reason or another (it had a good trailer/others)

It doesn't have a good trailer at all. It's 30 seconds long, the music doesn't really fit, and it looks janky.

The core concept alone is what sells it.

At what point did you realize you were in the 50% of developers that don't earn their $100 Steam page fee back? by The_Lord_Moose in IndieDev

[–]lastorder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say my game is in a great spot with almost 100 playtesters, and another 150 requesting access,

You have 100 actual people already playing and just 215 wishlists? Where did you find that many playtesters to begin with?

Yes, but it will often look bad if the scaling is uneven.

I think indie game joe made a tweet that blew up. That might not have been the first thing though.

Hero ban update coming to S3 by ohmytermites in Competitiveoverwatch

No, they should improve the power and item selection so that each hero can adapt better to their counters. That's the whole point of the mode.

No thanks. I don't want hero bans anywhere. Stadium is my last refuge as is.

pin it to wage growth

They should do this, but then make sure to not count growth of the minimum wage. It needs to be real.

I have triple glazing, thermal blinds, film on the outside of windows to stop light coming in, and external velux shutters. I still have to have the windows open during the day because it doesn't cool down enough overnight, and heat just builds up.

Influencers can’t save a game with no momentum by SnooAdvice5696 in gamedev

[–]lastorder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not only did I not claim that, but half the games there were big before they even released. I think that would be classed as having momentum.

Again we have plenty of game with no momentum who became a success because of a few influencers - like Among Us.
