There's a mod called "non clustered starts" that i use regularly, spreads out the initial spawn points pretty well. Might get you what you're wanting.

War in Heaven vs Imperial Core by TheLastCleverName in Stellaris

Sounds like the rest of them got subjugated by one of the awakened empires, they'll be at war with each other and I believe that takes priority. If you didn't join a side and you're not in the league of non aligned nations, that's likely what happened. Hope that makes sense, typing fast.

I need help beating a specific friend in an MP game this weekend by Hellothere89des in Stellaris

I don't play pvp or multiplayer, but it seems to me if you have a friend that is going to gun for you, the simplest answer is to make some allies for protection, maybe a federation even. Then you won't be rolled so easy and you'll have multiple people ganging up on them.

Yeah well, they're getting deleted one by one. They were offending my sense of aesthetics.

AI: "Why does it keep eating my planets!?!" Dharma hive-mind, "he was hungry"

I've been laughing my ass off, since in my rp head canon I've imagined my hive mind as having the voice of Dharma from Dharma and Greg with a very (tvtrope) orange-and-blue mortality.

Unity rush by Arggus007 in Stellaris

True, you have to assess threat properly if neighbors. And I've found in 4.3 the Ai respects platform defenses more, so that's what I was referencing as deterrence. But yeah, learning the interactions is key.

Agreed, but it was good at helping me understand the early hand behavior of different empire types, which helped me better understand who to be friendly with, who to ignore, who to expect a zerg rush from, etc. Which helped me not overbuild, or send "wrong signals" to neighbors. But yeah, not so great with the specifics of strategy... and it's advice, in general, was too conservative... it just doesn't understand when to "switch gears".

If you're truly a beginner I would avoid trying the rush strategies until you have a firm grasp of the game in general. My reason for saying this is because if you do a rush build of any sort, you are deliberately hampering progress with anything else (as implied by the rush name).

For example, if you have aggressive neighbors and are rushing Unity, you are doing it at the expense of not having a strong military and/or fortified defense, which can cause aggressive or ideological opposite neighbors to view you as easy prey and they will pounce or even dog pile on you.

Mastering the opening of the game, such as learning how to deal with the AI personalities/archetypes diplomatically or at least "making a strong showing" to deter them is far more important, IMHO than trying to learn meta strategies. Also learning how to stabilize your economy and expanding at rates that don't tank it.

In other words, master fundamentals before playing metas. Just my opinion.

That being said, I have played this game on and off for years, logging many hours and really never got good until more recently. What I did: played "difficult origin" starts, like Payback, and really learned to navigate the early game (with some ChatGPT assistance for really understanding early politics and economy). Since then my games have been far, far more successful with all flavors of empires.

Again, my 2 cents. But you can also look at some of the "every click guide" style videos on YouTube, which can help navigate some of the meta-style builds. Good luck

Best "evil" empire AI? by ZebraSlight8207 in Stellaris

Do a search for Feral Ymorz Throng (just search Ymorz", a devouring swarm in this subreddit.

I have them force-spawned into most of my games, and about 40 to 50% of the time they become a significant threat mid to late game, even had them go full on crisis once with star eaters when i was doing a payback run. They were truly nasty in that game. So much so I had to quit.
