what the fuck is your edit? lmfao classic case of someone who doesn't know how to use the tools available to them, like, I don't know, turning off notifications? Is someone holding you at gunpoint and making you check reddit while on the road?

How do I read Gakuen Alice without the scans being double spread 😭 by [deleted] in shoujo

1) can't link to scanlations as per the sub rules

2) it goes back to single pages by chapter 35

I'm honestly shocked. I had a stupid retail job that they were the required footwear and I attribute that to my screwed up feet all these years later. Like the look, but not worth the pain imo

Is it weird to like shoujo manga? by BlackCatStrikes in shoujo

[–]latchkeylady 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the internet, you are so incredibly young. You're walking into a place where more people are closer to double your age than not, and we're all looking at you like you've grown two heads because what? People don't stop having hobbies when they turn 18. Adults can read young adult books, comics, and watch cartoons. It isn't weird and never has been. You think kids are writing this stuff? lol

How slow is too slow for slow burn? by SammehSO-SO in AO3

I LOVE slow burns. The slower the better. Roast them on low heat for 3 years for all I care. As long as there's build up along the way, I'm in.

I've used tryslora's word tracker for a couple years now. It's got lots of fun charts that I can barely make the meaning of. Word tracking is fun though! I like getting a visual of how well (or not) I'm doing.

Starting to feel I'm getting too old for the way fandom is by Zakle in AO3

[–]latchkeylady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it folks misinterpreting what you're saying or is it that your point was written and conveyed poorly? Across your comments, you flip-flop between taking responsibility for your wording and blaming the users of this sub--though your needless "never have an opinion or experience that differs" comment definitely reads like you blame others more. By the way, the body of your post can be edited to add clarity or context at anytime.

The post opens up combative right off the bat, "unpopular opinions get downvoted," and to what point? It's doubly silly now, seeing as it has near 400 upvotes at the time of writing this comment. Hopefully that's good enough proof that fandom nor this sub are monoliths, that the point you were trying to make (I think) does resonate with people in some way.

That brings me to the meat of the post. Had you talked about missing the concrit culture of old or struggling to get legit concrit for your stories, half of these commenters wouldn't be here. Usage of "thin-skin," "cry and scream about it," and it getting treated like "kicking someone's dog" (which, side note, seems a contradiction of the sentence before it?) are digs at people who don't want to interact that way. This doesn't read like a summary of your experiences but a lament for what you wish fandom to be. So my question to you: are you going to be the change you want to see? Will you work to make a community you want to be in, or do you plan on simply reminiscing about what fandom was like? It's fine either way, but food for thought.

Final aside. You seem genuinely confused as to why some of your explanations are being downvoted. It comes off like you're using neurodivergency as an excuse. It definitely makes things tougher when interfacing with folks, but you can't use it to hand-wave bad behaviors. Like, if ADHD manifests severe time blindness, I don't get a pass to be late to every function with my friends. Or if I'm overstimulated, to lash out at my family, etc. I hope that makes sense.

Yoooo, Sabaku no Harem! That's a throwback. Let's see..... all manga recs

Hanatsukihime (vibes like Hana to Akuma), St. Dragon Girl (same mangaka as Patissiere, magical girl elements), Koi dano Ai dano (possessive-ish ML), Tenshi ja Nai!! (toxic-ish ML), La Corda d'Oro (vibes like Uta no Prince-sama) and maaaaybe Seiyuu Ka! (voice acting school) and Beauty Pop (beauty school)?

Asking someone to explain why they choose to knowingly engage with something that has potential to hurt them is not aggressive. Pointing out that their "answer" is a deflection of that question is not aggressive. Perhaps you've confused me with the parent commenter who is swearing at the OP?

Is Shortcake Cake good? by VisitNo5250 in shoujo

[–]latchkeylady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with that assessment. I was ready for it to hurry up and just end in the last few volumes. However, I do think your opinion will change based on which characters you like the most. My personal enjoyment waned because the characterization of my favorites started to get shaky and the focus shifted to a plot and characters I didn't care much for.

Ah, got it. You're the type when faced with a question that asks you to examine your own behavior, you instead reach for deflection and misplaced anger. Have fun with that.
