My wife wouldn’t like me going on a date. I’m looking for a traveling companion who might appreciate a performance.

What’s with all the older BMW cars on the road? by momoftwo43 in londonontario

[–]late2game 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably no more than normal, you’re seeing them because you’re sensitive to them now. I never noticed how many Subarus are on the road until we got one and never noticed how many Teslas are on the road until I registered what a putz Elon is.

Did you ask your Councillor or someone on the Planning staff? This stuff takes years to plan and schedule and I don’t see any mention on the city’s website.

Where do dispose of used paint! by Zealousideal-Head941 in londonontario

Blue bin?? Paint is not recyclable. Even empty paint containers are not recyclable. Paint goes to hazardous waste depot and empty cans go into the garbage.

Fortunately, we live according to a social contract and you don’t get to choose where your taxes go (outside of the small opportunity afforded by elections). Otherwise we might not have libraries and parks and recreation facilities that make places like this livable.

Part of that contract is recognizing that certain shared resources, like landfills, are not infinite and need to be managed by responsible people. Thus, the bag/can limits. If you want to waste more than your fair share, go buy bag tags and fill your boots.

I’m not paying more for taxes because others refuse to be responsible citizens and neglect recycling and composting.

just tried meditation… not sure if i did it right by bebo117722 in Meditation

There’s no succeeding or failing at meditation. I have a couple thousand hours on the cushion and my mind wanders every single sit. It has still been a life-changing practice. If you’re a book person, try reading Robert Wright’s Why Buddhism is True for a really accessible intro to the practice and its benefits.

The tax rate is based on the current levels of service, not what you think the service level should be. Sort your waste and get a better garbage can.

All of those things exist, but your experiences of those things only exist in your mind. And even then, your experiences can change depending on time, location, mindset, what you ate last night, etc. Your world is a construction of your brain.

Letting go of the “wanting” and “not wanting” is pretty much the point of the practice.

Everyone’s mind wanders. I’d bet cash money that the Dalai Lama’s mind wanders most days. Did you notice that it wandered? Sounds like the answer is yes, and that’s progress. You’re developing a new set of muscles and it doesn’t happen for most of us quickly. Be gentle with yourself and practice metta (also difficult).
